i'm actually really excited about all of the upcoming spielberg projects. while everyone seems to have some love for a couple of his films (apart from a select few on the internet), my appreciation for him over the past year has really grown. when he's on point, he just shows incredible technique; A.I, catch me if you can, munich - all very different, and yet each is superbly evocative and wonderfully humanistic cinema. truly is one of the greatest.

I want to believe that Michael Mann will be out with a blockbuster by 2012 too.

2001 - Ali
2004 - Collateral
2006 - Miami Vice
2009 - Public Enemies
2012 - ???

Yeah Plainview is Michael Mann cooking anything up? Give us the juicy details.

Man, i really hope Spielberg makes a comeback to the Schindler days. Back when he released shit like Jurrasic Park and Schindler's list in the same year. I mean i have really enjoyed his recent stuff but didnt really love it. They only had hints of brilliance and werent actually brilliant.

You have a direct comparison of that in 2005 where he released Munich and War of the Worlds. Munich being in his top 3 films for me alongside Empire of the Sun and Schindler.

He's been working on Luck. But I'm sure he will have another film going soon.

Yeah i am aware he was going for the same thing back in 2005 but the impact wasnt nearly the same. I definitely didnt love Munich as much as you.

You unknowningly just flashed the Snowman symbol. He will soon arrive to tear Spielberg a new one.

Awww shieeet. I forgot about PTA's new film. I think it's close to start production?

Supposed to shoot this fall I think, but it hasn't been said whether he's doing The Master or Inherent Vice first.

And then proceed on a 4 page discussion on what he considers to be artful and why Spielberg can't fit inside that definition.

Tonight's my night off.
Though really, I think I'm just done with the whole discussion; I suspect that time will do my work for me. And I also realized that I'm probably not principled enough that I would turn down an acting role in a Spielberg film, so I'll just shut the fuck up about him unless absolutely necessary.

And I'm pretty excited for The Burial, though I'm tempted to guess that since Affleck was present in the first still that was released, he might have a bigger part than Bardem despite being listed lower.

Judging from this recent info, it sounds like Bardem has less screentime than Affleck. We'll see though.

It sounds like Affleck, McAdams, and Kurylenko (sp) are the main three, based on what McAdams said in an interview today.

Funny you should ask, I'm trying to get the exclusive scoop from his reps the past few months. I can only say they have denied it will be Capa with Andrew Garfield. The most likely project is Gold.

There was a roughly 4 year or so break between Heat and Ali as well, so it wouldn't be too unremarkable if we don't get something from Mann till 2013. I'm looking forward to it, either way, even if he's perhaps a bit inconsistent overall.

Holy fuck, McG could direct a movie with that cast and still churn out something good.

Spielberg is going to kill it.

As an aside, have there been any updates on Tintin over the past few months?

Ergh, that's right. Two people that I can't help but see the actors instead of the characters.

Speaking of Cuaron, a trailer for Clive Owen's new horror/thriller recently released. That guy needs a better agent.

Nope. Hopefully we'll see a teaser trailer of some sort attached to Transformers 3.

Isn't it coming out overseas in September or something? We'll probably get a trailer sooner than July.

Its been slated for October release in Europe, though I doubt they'll stick to that schedule as that makes a two month gap between the US release.

Holy shit this movie should be great. Dat cast.

On a side note 2012 has me fucking excited. So many great movies. So much variety too.

Just wanted to cosign the Catch Me If You Can love.

Amazing, endlessly watchable flick.

And hugely hyped for this Lincoln flick.

I'm curious if we'll see DDL losing some weight to purposefully emulate Lincoln's sort of gaunt appearance.

I'm intrigued by how he'll look since there isn't a great deal of physical resemblance between the two, and Lincoln is an iconic figure who everyone recognizes. DDL generally tries to get as close as possible to his characters, in a variety of ways, so it'll be interesting to see where he goes with it.

I think DDL is a tall mofo, definitely above 6' in height. The challenging part will be to show others around him as shorter.

That top hat will definitely do wonders though.

I was actually thinking more of the face than the height, lol. Lincoln was a bit strange-looking in that he had a strong jawline but a gaunt, skinny face (most evident without his glorious beard). I envision DDL losing quite a bit of weight for this role.

I know it's a bit silly but it's fun to think about.
