Ever played dragons dogma? Consoles can't take dynamic lighting without horrible performance issues.
Uncharted games run just fine.

lol, is it just me or does it look like he's running barefoot on hot sand?

For anyone who didn't see it before here's the original 60fps HD TGS trailer. Very sad if this doesn't make it into the PC version.

That would only explain the lighting in one of the rooms though.
What do you mean?
That's what I think as well. It doesn't look extremely taxing.
Man, to tell you the truth, that was the trailer that made me pre-order the game. It's staggering how different both the demo and the final release look like.
I just hope the PC version isn't gimped.

Every dark souls youtuber is a shill.
I highly doubt they are going to support two versions of the game with different lighting.

I have a feeling this isn't going to end well when these reviews hit.
Isn't From notorious for being hit or miss game to game?
I was under the impression Demons Souls to Dark Souls was a bit of an anomaly?
It's that extremely common?

How come the statues only seem to come to life in the earlier build?
Well he is running, it takes time? How come the statues only seem to come to life in the earlier build?
I disagree. Huge streaming world with zero load times looking like that all the way through? That's top-tier stuff from consoles for mine. We rarely see that sort of lighting, so I guess I - and many others - were blindly optimistic that From had pulled off some awesome looking shit.
Woo.
Same here, that was the first footage I saw of the game (a long time after it came out, I was on a blackout), and I immediately jumped to start saving for a pre-order. Makes me so sad, the outcome.
nowaday it's rare but it was kinda a normal thing during PS2\Cube/Xbox era as many multiplat on Xbox got different lighting than PS2 versions.
I just expected a red eye to be visible once he was within range.Well he is running, it takes time?

HOLY SHIT, IT DOES. Nice catch there, mate!Keep an eye on the second statue on the left side as the player passes it-- it flashes red for a split second.

Cheer up, if you imagine that it wouldn't look so different if the area kept the torch light sources it's not such a jaw-dropping difference.
Animations are aweful this time round. DS1 animation never fails to blow me away:
I always kept hearing how the PS3 was never good at processing open world areas, which explains why most eye candy (FFXIII just to cite an example) came from games that had a corridor structure. This DS2 downgrade not only proves that but also leaves many other questions out there; even without all the taxing effects the framerate apparently still is all over the place.
Depends a lot on which animations. The new running animations are weird, but I'll take the new walking animation over the broken legs in the first one.Mocap doesn't have any personality. I don't want to judge DS2 yet because I haven't seen much, but so far DS1 key framed animation is much better.
Except they can't because they canned the real time lighting entirely, so it seems.
That's why people are pretty upset about all of this, because while the game was in development it was a big talking point by the developers to design the game around the torch system, and forcing players to choose between visibility or defense...and now? Almost all reports I've heard now is that the torch system is totally worthless save for an area or two where they turn down the ambient lighting to nothing so you have to use it.
So it's the PS3's fault now? Yeah...
Gotta remember EpicNameBro for his input on the games release.
General reviews from big names sites are nearly guaranteed to be meaningless.

When I heard they were going for a new light engine and more dynamic lighting, I did think to myself that it wouldn't end well.
Demons Souls and Dark Souls both had areas where 15 FPS were the average, and some areas were easily dropping into the 5-10's.
I have no idea how they were going to expand their scope, while offering more resource intensive systems. Not on PS360 at least.
I'm disappointed, but surprised? Heck no.
Dark Souls has never been a looker. I'd much rather have it at 60FPS with the fighting mechanics they provide, but I also know thats a false hope.

Yeah the top gif really does look like a ps4/xbox one game.I might just wait to see if this comes to ps4..i mean if it's going to look like that i think it will be worth the wait.Compared to the bottom one, the top gif looks like a next-gen game.

It's directly why Skyrim PS3 was such a cluster fuck. Whether or not this is the reason DS2 consoles was downgraded is a mystery, however, but it's not entirely unfounded to speculate that it may be part of the cause.
I shouldn't be in this thread. I'd rather be blissfully ignorant. :[jeez
