Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Can you explain the backbuffer Durante? Is that what I want to change to my native monitor res? It's at 1284x720 or something right now. Otherwise I set it to 2560x1440 on the upscaling.

Hey, I'm having the "set everything to high!" on Catalyst issue. Rendering at 3840x2400 (yes, overkill) and filteringOverride 2, I'm getting 70% GPU usage, which is fine. There's some stuttering, but it's probably loading from the HDD or whatever.

However, sometimes, it just drops to 15 FPS (and GPU usage goes to 40%) and stays that way, for no reason.

Now, people have said "put everything on max on catalyst lawl" but I don't quite liked doing that because that setting would be applied to all my games and I hate the blur that AA introduces in the mix.

Which .EXE I should make a profile for? DATA.exe ou DARK SOULS.exe?

Also, does anybody know which specific setting fixes the issue?

Is an FPS fix even possible?

I do think an FPS might be possible.

The game clearly runs at proper speed at both 30fps and 15fps, which means there's some logic in the game somewhere to scale the keyframed animations for 15fps to work. I think 60fps may be doable if that logic can just be inversed. Might be stuck with 30fps animations regardless of the game's framerate, though (similar to Halo PC).

Data.exe

It's constant 15 fps, my monitor is unfortunately DVI only, no HDMI.

Only things I can think of include try using default values in NVIDIA control panel. Try using D3DOverrider, or if you are using D3DOverrider try it without. Close out of any tools such as Afterburner or Precision and see if that makes a difference. I have no idea if doing any of these will fix the problem.

Anyone have a solution to the 15 fps lock when using DSFix? Running on an I7-3610QM with a 680m. Could have sworn I had it at 30 fps yesterday. I just got home from work; testing the new versions and can't get it over 15.

If you go into the PC Settings screen, does it show your monitor's refresh rate as 60Hz?

I would stick with Filter override "1" Dude this fixed it for me and it still Looks GREAT, unless of course your running some kinda SLI/CF Setup with top end cards, in that case disregard this

So what's the difference in between the AF modes? Not sure what downsampling implies with regards to AF.

I'm not sure either but I'm also overriding it in with RadeonPro. Can't even find the right setting or this filter override setting.

NVM, I'm blind and was opening the wrong file ><

Ya I just confirmed downsampling is working for me.

mod removed: 10% gpu usage (wow take off the mod and run around a bit, makes you really appreciate Durante).

Mod set to render at 1080p: 18% usage

Mod set to render at 1440p: 35% usage

Scales linearly like Durante said initially, just not used to Downsampling like this so wanted to verify that it was working correctly.

What do you use to see your GPU usage as you play?

Mod still works great but unfortunately, regardless of res, it still has the odd slowdown to 15 and seldom hitch below 30. It's inconsistent and I want that fixed more than anything now that the res is good enough.

I can go to lower than native res and it still does that slowdown too so my rig is not some inferior garbage heap as much as the games programming is utter garbage.

Upping the res to 2440p made my GPU usage go to 54%. No more. Frustratingly terrible. Horrendously optimized or utter incompetence on From's part.

It's the greatest mystery of our times. It's the only problem I currently have. I desperately want to know what triggers the drop because it's definitely not an issue of too much going on graphically.

Ok, I have a quick question:

My monitor is 16:10 so my ideal resolution is 1920x1200. However the game obviously runs in 16:9 as I get letterbox even when I set it to this mode.

I'm a bit confused as to how I should configure all the resolution settings in the mod and in game.

Should it look like this:

Internal Rendering:

2560 x 1440

presentWidth 2560
presentHeight 1440

Then in game:

1920 x 1080

Or should I just go ahead and tell it to render in game at 1920x1200?

Also when I selected "forceFullscreen" the game crashes everytime whether or not I have the ingame menu set to "full screen." However, if I don't turn on Fullscreen in the .ini I can set it to fullscreen in game just fine. Suggestions?

Yeah I have been looking around on various forums seems alot of people having the drops to 15PS issues regardless of hardware.

For those who claim they are running it a 30fps without any drops at all I would like to know your set ups.

Unless there has been an update past V3 that i have not noticed you will notice there is a Big section in the Cfg for Durante's fix that says those setting are not to be used yet....

Wait, what setttings should not be used? I read the readme and I only changed the things it suggested changing.

What version messed up the frame rate, .3 or .2? I have .1 right now and am pretty happy with everything even though I can't read messages.

Ive played about an hour sor far and have only seens a couple drops besides bonfires going off, one was when a whole bunch of pots were being broken + blood + first bosses hammer in close proximity, other was exitingfrom the archway with torchlight on it ( only did it once) i think it was the first opening to the outside,

running it at 3840x2160 downsampling to 1080p 32 bit, option "1"

running
i7 2600k @ 4.2
Asrock z68 Pro Gen 3
Xfx 7970 @ 1000/1425
16gb 1600mhz 9-9-9-10 G skill sniper
240gb agility 3

Anyone on an E8500 3.16 ghz running this? Just curious how well it runs. Because that's what I have.

I'm on an E7200 oc'd to 3.8ghz, with a 560. My monitor is 1080p and I'm downsampling from 1440p.

For the most part I'm locked at 30. Occasionally I dip -- Fraps claims to 25 at the lowest -- but it's a beautifully smooth experience for the most part, and far better than on the PS3. Going to trade my PS3 copy in now, I think.

My max CPU usage while playing was 100%, max GPU only 74%; like me you'll probably be CPU-limited.

In the actual Dsfix.Cfg file were you should be changing the settings for the fix, you will notice....

###############################################################
# The settings below are not yet ready to use! #
###############################################################

# You can only set either forceFullscreen or forceWindowed (or neither)
# 0 = off, 1 = on
forceWindowed 0
forceFullscreen 0

# The following settings are only functional if either forceFullscreen or forceWindowed is enabled
# The display width/height
presentWidth 3840
presentHeight 2160
# turn on/off Vsync
enableVsync 0
# adjust display refresh rate in fullscreen mode - this is NOT linked to FPS!
fullscreenHz 60

Ah, gotcha. I somehow misread that.

I'll change them back. Although I guess technically they are already turned off since "forced Window" wasn't turned on (as when I turn it on it crashes).

But I guess I should still be using 1080P 16bit in game even though I have a 16:10 monitor?

Well you can use 32bit if you think your compy can handle it.

Heheh, i must admit although i didnt miss the Note, i did have the inescapable urge to turn them on, which only resulted in a crash :D.

Also as far as the Resolution's go on a 16:10 monitor, if i were you i would try using 16:10 Res settings in DS and the DSfix.cfg, just to see how it goes, althought if i am to understand there is a problem running 16:10 resolutions at the moment.

You know not only did this mod make the game better, it also brought more gaming media attention to the title than lifting the review and preview embargo.

Hmm should 30fps lock be on by default? Because I swear it bumps way over that at times. It's a bit distracting actually.

How do I enable the steady 30fps lock?

I think it should be?

It's a i7 920 with CrossFire Radeon 6870s.

Although it seems to be having a bit of a frame rate dip now and then as is. Maybe I need to adjust some settings in AMD Catalyst or re-install Radeon Pro (which I uninstalled and used D3D Overrider instead to fix Darksiders 2 V-sync problems).

If you havent tried yet i would reccomend leaving all CCC/radeon pro options on use application settings, or just slightly improved, as i have everything except enable surface format optimisation set to Use app settings, and running internal render at 3840x2160 Looks Fantastic

The only 100% way is by leaving all your settings on default and using no MOD. As well as having the necessary hardware to maintain a constant 30fps.

Actually, I'm still using version 1 of the fix, as the others give me way worse framerate. (with v1 I get steady 30fps @ 1440p)

I just don't know how to make this mod work. My monitor res is 1360 x 768. When I start the game, all i can see is a black screen and grey square. Any ideas?

Low resolution assets.

Riiiiight.

Use fraps OSD, I doubt it would be going over what it's locked at, how exactly would that be distracting anyway? is it speeding up ? i would love the fps to be higher lol

FPS fix is more important IMO. Hope it is possible, Alice Madness Returns is an example of a PC game that FPS fix was successful.

Alice was fixed by simply changing 1 line in an ini file that looked exactly the same as every other UE3 title's ini file. This is slightly more complicated than that it would seem.

I'm surprised how ugly the game is. I mean ugly in the best of ways, like everything is grimy and putrid and has a very discomforting hue, and I don't remember Demon's being so disturbing (well, maybe with the exception of world 5)...
