Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

I highly doubt that the high-resolution assets were created solely for the PC version. It's more likely that the visuals stayed exactly as they are from the console versions but nobody really noticed their quality because of the low internal rendering resolution and output of consoles. Hell, nobody could tell that there were surprisingly high-quality assets in the PC version at all until the mod came around.

I'm not questioning that at all. I'm talking more about the performance of the engine when the resolution is unlocked.

To me it is more baffling that they locked the frame rate to 720p than it is a result of incompetance. The port they developed can clearly handle a lot more and it benefits heavily from it.
I'm pretty sure that it's not incompetence, it's just not giving a damn about their fans and customers and that's why I won't be paying the full price of the game.

Have not had the time to read through the entire thread, so I would appreciate it if someone could answer a few questions about this Mod?

1. Does it work with the Steam version and if it does, anything different needs to be done?
2. Does it work with an SLI Setup? I have a GTX-690 and before I buy the game I want to make sure the game and mod will work.

And finally, the only reason I am buying this game is because of this mod. So to Durante, thank you and if anyone from "FROM Soft" you need to donate to this guy because I am sure he is responsible for at least 25% of the sales. I am sure I am like many others that was not going to touch the game due to the sub-1080p that it comes in, so I hope that they support this guy.

RPS didn't pick it up sadly...

1. Yes just follow the simple instructions in the OP or the read me. Basically you stick the two files in the game folder, edit Two values in the .ini and turn off AA and motion blur in game. Easy peasy.

2. Yes. I am running Crossfire and it workds great. Many others have reported it running solid on SLI.

1) It does work with the steam version

2) I have 2 x 580GTX in SLI but there is no flag for it yet, so it's using only one card.

Nothing special about the Steam version.

I've seen posters using SLI and not having a problem but I'm sure you could disable a GPU and still downsample from some ungodly high resolution without breaking a sweat.

Edit: or what they said ^

You have a 7970 right?

Have you been able to play the game without stuttering @ 5760

I hope there's a way to fix the DoF problem, even if it's by turning it off entirely. Also, removing the frame cap would be phenomenal.

But those are just wishes from me right now. I'm super happy with what I've got.

You ever hear the expression cockup before conspiracy? It might do you some good. Which is more likely? That they were afraid the game would run like shit on peoples PCs so they set the bar really low because they didn't know any better, (hell maybe they got this far and didn't know how to fix the DOF issue) or they said, yknow what? Fuck all those people who've supported us even though we've been receptive and fan oriented in the past. Let's do a 180 just to piss _machine off!

Seriously, get a grip man.

So I'm sure I'm screwing something up, but has anyone had a glitch where the game is only shown on the upper left of the screen. The HUD is fullscreen but the graphics are only in the upper left corner. I've got a 680m set to file to 2560x1440 and the game set to 1920x1080 32 bit fullscreen.

EDIT: Also which file is the game .exe, data.exe or darksouls.exe?

Yeah. Honestly I kind of wonder what their test machines were since they arent PC developers. Maybe they were testing it on old hardware and didnt know better.

Only way I can really explain it.

For those with AMD cards, what are your specific settings for CCC? I'm going to create a new profile for dark souls -- and i'm assuming I need to apply to darksouls.exe or is it data.exe??
I don't even tinker with CCC. I just use RadeonPro for most of my tweaks and MSI Afterburner for OC and temp monitoring.

From Software - "To be completely honest, we're having a tough time doing it due to our lack of experience and knowledge in terms of porting to PC. First we thought it would be a breeze, but it's turned out not to be the case. We're still developing right now - we're crunching right now"

Fixed that for you :P

Game crawls at points, using double 1080p resolution. Like some of the fat demons attacks in the first area. Otherwise it runs smooth as silk, almost feels like 60fps at times.

I don't usually mess with my settings much. I have a GTX 570. If I want to turn on anti aliasing through the control panel should I do so by adding darksouls.exe to the program settings, so it doesn't happen in every game?

Also, antialiasing - fxaa is either on or off. Would I just turn that on and then make anisotropic filtering 16x?

speaking of which..

i wonder how much Durante has been blessed with in terms of donations :D

i know i'll send him a cpl $ in his direction once i get paid

There are appropriate responses: Some 30 FPS games feel more responsive than others. Many people would agree that Dark Souls is relatively snappy.
Looks great for me. Smooth framerate, no choppiness on good hardware, joy to play. 30fps be damned, it's pretty smooth.

To get 10240, I divided 5760/1080 = 5 1/3

Then I multiplied 1920 * 5 1/3 = 10240

Fixed that for you.

Alternatively, if the new resolution is X (width) by Y (height), and you have Y and want X:

X = Y * (1920/1080)

And if you want Y and have X:

Y = X * (1080/1920)

That's for 16:9. Use 1200 instead of 1080 if your monitor is 16:10.

Anyone else having issues with their 360 pad? It works fine in other GFWL games (Batman AA and AC) but I can't seem to get Dark Souls to respond to it. If I hit the home button GFWL pops up but that's all that seems to work.

I honestly wouldnt be surprised if not much at all, just the way people are. Just look at the awful number of small donations for Humble Bundle even though people are getting multiple amazing games for free.

I still cant believe he refuses to put ads on the page, I have seen his page linked in so many huge pages today, he is missing out on a lot.

Yeah, thanks. Typed it too fast.

Thank you guys :)

It's probably obvious, but in the post you quoted I flipped around the description of X and Y. Instead of "X (height) by Y (width)" it should be "X (width) by Y (height)". I have edited my post and feel rather stupid.

EDIT: Or, you know, if you want, say, 3xSSAA, just grab your monitor's native resolution (for example, 1680 x 1050) and multiply each number by that three: 1680*3 x 1050*3 = 5040 x 3150.
