Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

For anyone who is using Realtek onboard audio and is having trouble getting the downmixing fix to work, try doing same steps in the Realtek HD Audio Manager (The orange speaker symbol in the system tray).

I had to set mine up like this to get it to work:

Probably a stupid question, but bear with me please:

I love the ability to switch between full-screen and windowed mode with F8, it makes the wait between one failed invasion and another much more tolerable.

However, i noticed that, more i press F8 more the window gets smaller:

Also, another issue: I noticed sometimes the text looks weird, like the upper half of some letters is missing. Any reason for that?

Im having a bit of problem with SSAO. The problem is that it vanishes alot of times when I turn the camera. I think its some problem with the DOF, when I turn down DOF to 800 the problem seems to happen less frequent.

Video of the problem

Video of the problem

The settings;
Native Res: 1920*1080
DOF: 1080
SMAA: Ultra
Frames: Steady 30fps

Durante is the awesome. Is this going to work on AMD cards too?
Yes. It's just like if the game itself implemented SSAO.

However, I still have a bit of sporadic artifacting on flat surfaces to work out, and I never did SSAO before, so I'm mostly just blindly tweaking parameters.

However, i noticed that, more i press F8 more the window gets smaller:
That's hilarious, but I'll still fix it ;)

Edit: also I should mention that of course this has quite the performance hit (like any SSAO), especially at high resolutions.

anyone else having a problem of dks crashing when alt tabing out? to be more precise, switching to desk works, when i try to resume to dks it crashes.

I use the digital output in Realtek (optical cable), does that mean I can't or don't need to do this? I don't see any configure options for it but I hate to think I may be missing out on sounds.

Game already works in surround and eyefinity, played like 20 hours so far with Durante fix and flawless wide screen, yesterday they managed fix the hud, check it out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbvHfdFYPoA

I had better luck today when I futzed around with my surround settings some more. But when I try it on my surround setup with flawless widescreen it displays across 3 monitors but the HUD is all kinds of fucked up, still. Is there something I need to do to enable the fix you're talking about? I've updated everything in there that I can see, it's not showing me any further updates for the DS plugin, is there something I'm missing?

Your screenshot is exactly how I have been playing for the last 20 hours, they literally fixed the HUD last night, so im guessing they will release a new version of the plug in sometime today.

SSAO on my AMD card. I never even considered the possibility. Amazing. Durante, I hope you are continuing to get donations because you've gone so far beyond the original scope of the fix, it's ridiculous.

That reminds me do Totalbiscuit release his video? I'm sure he can drive some more attention to the fix.

Dont know about AA, but with AO have you set the internal resolution for example to 1080 for a 1080 lcd-screen? For me AO works bether with DOF set to 810 or lower.

Resolution is 1080p, output is 1080p.

Probably a driver issue, might just wait for the integrated SSAO.

The game doesn't even use much vram...

I mean on consoles. There is absolutely no way for a lot of detail to resolve, such a waste.

Can someone tell me what I should be looking at with the last screens Durante posted. I know it's SSAO but I can't tell a difference.

EDIT: Well I can tell when I tab back and forth between the two images. Not sure if I would ever notice this in the game :P

You won't say "omg this SSAO is amazing". It's about the depth and sense of space that is getting improved.

Just made a donation for you Durante, keep up the good work.

I never expected you to keep working away at this to improve as much as you have.

Get the hud Shrunk and there will be another donation from me. ;)

Maybe not completely related. But if I reformatted my harddrive for a windows reinstall would my save be OK? Is it cloud-based? If not, where is it?

Thanks for any response. :D

Save is in C:\Users\USER NAME\Documents\NBGI\DarkSouls

Just copy/backup that folder. The folders inside should be named after your characters respectively.

Cloud saves are not in effect, however, you can follow this topic on the Steam forums on how to get your saves up on Dropbox (which is what I do and it works like a charm): http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2909364

Like Durante posted the SSAO effect isn't quite there but it's encouraging to see the progress. Right now when I enable SSAO, weird diagonal lines appear on certain surfaces. The ability to remap key shortcuts for the mod features is great addition.

Thx a lot for the response. Are we sure this has no problems with GFWL?

Gonna be amazing when Durante gets the SSAO the way he wants it. I tried doing AO in Inspector and it bogged my system down, but his integrated AO makes no drop in framerate whatsoever.

Awesome work.

Would it be possible to make the game downsample 5.1 to stereo using the audio render, for those who cannot fix the ambient sound with their sound card settings? Would be amazing if it was possible to add that option to DSFix.

Durante has said several times in thread this is beyond his area of expertise.

He has also stated he plans to release the source code to DSFix once the code has been cleaned and optimized, so perhaps someone else can look into this once this happens.

Whats the issue and how do I know if I have it? Is it only for people that play with Speakers?
