Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Was just about to post that, I'm actually in awe how nice some of the textures look after applying this fix and the fairly consistent look. I've seen good ports with ten times shittier textures. I expected extremely muddled low-res textures everywhere

Did you turn off depth of field or something?

For a 'PC noob' that's a hell of a rig.

probably overspent...but having trouble getting the game to start...both with and without the patch....no afterburner I gather...but still problems? Or do I just need to be patient?

edit:

finally worked..... patience and don't start pressing buttons to "make" it go faster...everything worked! Patch was great at 2560x1440 but might try higher later.... Thanks Durante! This was obviously my favorite game on consoles and to have a new rig not not have it play at least a little better than consoles was crap....looks awesome...can't wait to try multiplayer tomorrow...no GFWL problems yet either ....crosses fingers! Pretty sweet day one...level 13 should still be bale to help noobs but not dies to quick myself.....leaving all bosses untouched for PVP helping yet have just about all the equipment from the first few areas plus some of the harder ones also!

one thing....how does that game-save manager work? I downloaded it but says it is optional to install???? How does it run?

Yeah this is what I wanted the game to look like. What is that downsampled from Sethos?

It seems like the game likes to lock it's framerate at 15 fps whenever there are drops. Seems like some programming issue since its exactly half of 30 fps.

Played the game for 6.5 hours straight with the res fix. It's amazing how freaking gorgeous it all is at 1080 and how addicted I am for the second time. I know there's apparently other problems but other than the notes not showing up, I haven't seen a single thing wrong with the way everything is rendered right now. I like motion blur and I like depth of field!

Hopefully this wasn't beaten to death already but is it really absolutely not possible to unlock the framerate? I heard that it turns the game into benny hill mode, all sped up, but I'm curious if that's because the unlock was just a simple hack or if it really is because the game is just that hardcoded to not allow higher framerates.

Edit: Oh yeah, is there any way to get rid of the damn logos when I first start the game?

For those of you getting downsampling working, how are you doing it?

I have it set for 2560x1440, but I don't think its actually working.

Dark Souls is not a Steamworks title. The majority of the copies out there are Non-Steam except for UK copies I think. So those don't get tracked by Steam.
Also Alan Wake, which was a Steamworks title, peaked at like 4000 and the devs said it was profitable.

Exactly.

Another thing to keep in mind is that number is concurrent players. Not everyone that has purchased Dark Souls is going to log in at the exact same time.

I remember reading a skyrim article and concurrent numbers are considered 1/4, or less of the total active playerbase and these numbers are for peak hours. I hardly consider late on a Thursday night or Friday morning to be peak hours.

Was just playing at 4096 x 2304 on my 1920 x 1080 monitor with FXAA, man this is a beautiful looking game now. Thank you so much Durante!

The resolution fix is amazing.
I repurchased the game after cancelling my preorder because of it.

Though the game seems very CPU dependant.
Running on a Dual core e6700 and a 560ti I do get frame drops but its a steady 30fps most of the time. I can run much more visually demanding games on much higher settings. Regardless it is still vastly superior to the console experience.

Though its still ridiculous that it was released with the lock in the first place.

bought the game and donated. Namco should patch it in and give the man the percantage from each copy sold. Not happening though but it's what they should do.

I cant buy this game fast enough!

Thank god someone out there is clever enough to fix this shoddy port! :D

Bought it and gonna try it out during my lunch break :P

Where? I'd love to find it.
You may be able to go into the control panel for your video card (well, nVidia ones at least) and force it off. Personally I forced it ON with Triple Buffering, and the FPS seems to have been a lot more consistent ever since, and given I'm on a i5 2500k and 560ti it definitely wasn't due to weak hardware.

5120x3200 down to my 2560x1600 resolution, then further downsampled to 1920x1200 for viewing pleasure - It almost looks better without that last shop downsample.

Cool beans! Bah I just might have to get this :[

Playing on 2500k/16gb ram/ati 6950 2gb, with the fix applied I get 30 fps most of the time with random drops to 26-29fps (annoying!).

Will probably buy a 670gtx soon.

Doesn't work for me. Force off nor triple buffering make a difference on my setup, which is why I'd like to find a way to disable the games built in Vsync.

I can probably add an option to disable Vsync to the mod. But I wouldn't really recommend it for a game running at 30 FPS, the tearing would be terrible.

Oh, and I finally got some sleep!

Does anyone have an idea how to change my in-game language?
On 360 it just switched to English cause my 360 is set to that, but here it's German and I REALLY DO NOT WANT THAT.

I might actually buy this on PC now... And From should reward Durante with something awesome.

I have that cooler! My i5 2500k is running at 4.8 ghz thanks to that beast.

Are these water coolers safe? I would be slightly paranoid about it leaking lol.

Does the round part connect to the chip?

At what reso do the messages start to cut off? Was it 1600×900 where they start to clip off? I'd like to play at 1080p, but having the online communication system cut would suck.

Maybe Ill try 1366x768, not ideal, but I'm playing on an HDTV so not too bad.

Durante, I realize that you haven't started working on the text fix, but do have any suspicions as to what might be causing it and if it should be fixable?

Better than running at 15FPS >.>
Thanks again for all the work, get some of that well deserved rest.

Thank you Durango !
Now we need to fix that low res DoF and messages.

Also as i said earlier. Texture work is amazing in that game. I have PS3 version textures are the same but low res and blurry filter did not leave any chance for textures to shine.

I think texture work is at Uncharted 1 level (very good)

Also there is any chance to scale back UI a bit ?

I second this question!!

I found it bro, i totally forgot about this simple thing:

Change your Format and Location to English(UK) and United Kingdom!
I now have DS running in English AND high resolution!
Cheers again for the fix man!

PS. 'schland?

I have some suspicions, but it could be a lot of things. I'll have to check them one after the other, so it could be a lengthy process.

Durante, don't forsake the 16:10'ers. We already suffer enough. =(
I've a 16:10 too, but I think the disappearing messages is the biggest problem. Not game-breaking by any means though.

Durante has done a phenomenal job, even though he had called it a week ago, saying that this would be possible with a modicum of effort.

I wonder what that might be doing. When the drops occur for me, the GPU usage suddenly drops to 0% and the framerate drops to 15 fps (when everything is working normally and smooth it sits at around 30% usage). Then just as suddenly as it begain something triggers it to jump back up and the framerate returns to 30 fps. It's like the GPU just decides to shut down.

Sounds like the problem I'm having, only I have an Nvidia card and most people seem to be having issues with AMD.

I might try maxing all settings in the control panel to see if that helps although I'm a little wary - it's a decent card but hardly top of the line so I don't want to overdo it.

Could there a possibility of making this open source. I'm not as experienced as you but wouldn't mind playing around in it either, you never know!
