Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Anyone experiencing unusual slowdown in the new areas? I'm thinking somethings messed up on my end, probably unrelated to the fix.
Got 2 black screen temp crashes earlier today, since then my performance seems to have taken a sizable hit. :/

EDIT: somethings definitely up.. I now have everything set to default in the ini, yet I'm getting worse performance at 1080p than I was earlier super sampling 2x1080p or even when I was using the forced nvidia AO. D: at fire link shrine too..
GPU is a GTX670dc2t, cpu's a stable OC'd 2500k at 4.5 Ghz. Da funk? >:/

Did you verify the integrity of your game cache? Mine was running fine and then one night the game just started sucking.

I checked the cache and it had some messed up files (thanks gfwl). Once I fixed those it ran better.

Yeah, whatever. Either way, I'm getting really friggin' sick of it.

If a small handful of consecutive mistakes is enough to reset me back fifteen minutes of gameplay... that's a bit more than I can take.

I also have to lol at the poisonous mobs where the poison is strong enough to kill me twice over and there's no antidote at this point in the game. Punishing, indeed!

The poison is weak as hell. One time I was able to run back to a fire to wipe it out with ease, and another time I just healed through it easily with two hits from a level 0 flask.

I started working on this 2 hours or so before you posted (a similar thing happened with the question about doing SSAO at rendering res earlier in the thread). I should have been done at least 3 hours ago but I was stupid again (and well, the Dark Souls renderer was also a bit stupid, but I should really have expected that).

Now it's 3:30 am, I have a headache and 1.1 will have to wait until tomorrow.

1080p DoF with fast high quality separable gaussian blur:

This was the last big graphical enhancement I wanted to make. It's just for total IQ geeks like me, who were really annoyed that you only had the choice between "low-quality, but as intended" and "high quality, but too sharp" when it came to DoF.

Durante, you're ridiculous. Not only should FROM/Namco use your work as an official patch to Dark Souls once you've finalised your fixes, but they should pay you some serous money for it.

I know I'm not the only one who has bought the game because of your work, and I hope it gets official recognition. I can't believe the difference your work has made, and it really does undermine their excuses about the porting process. If you have been able to do this, why couldn't Namco or FROM find a PC expert to help them?

Does this hit the graphic-card harder than DOF 1080?

For some reason backups do not work now on the latest version?? wtf

FUCK MOTHERFUCKER!!!

aaaannd I tried to do a file restore and it fucked me back to all my DLC progress. GOD FUCKING DAMN

I'm gonna go cry myself to bed while I lose like 5 hours of progress :(

Yes. It's 1080p + an additional blur pass. But the blur pass is rather cheap.

Backups are still working for me, and I didn't change anything about them. Which save game directory does the fix report if you set the loglevel to 3?

nice quality but looks a bit ridiculously dof heavy - like you are doing a macro shot of a tiny person
Maybe so, but it's comparable to the original game setting in terms of sharpness (just much higher quality). Anyway, you can select exactly how sharp/blurry you want it.

Im torn between getting the console DLC for presumably more pvp players, or getting the PC version for Durante mode.. These screenshots are amazing...

Given the frequency with which I'm invaded and the amount of summoning sings I see everywhere you really shouldn't worry about this on PC I think.

I just can't get the game to work with 1.0. So I will stick with 0.9. I wanted it because fullscreen Alt+Tab crash but I'll wait for 1.1 I guess.

Thanks for all your work BTW!

Junction point on drop box for all gfwl titles. Gamesave manager will link it for you automatically.

SaveManager: Backing up save files
SaveManager: searching for files ending on .sl2
SaveManager: Backed up è; åÿ‹G,ƒˆ¼
SaveManager: searching for files ending on .bak

also backs up to the wrong folder for whatever reason. I leave it running at the main menu and there should be something but there's no backup.

I tried again and it's the same thing. Usually the fix would be like "oh you're starting a game? Well have this backup!" That never happens now.

I'm a little new anti aliasing types and the installation of the latest durante fix.

Do I have to put both SSAO files and the VSSAO file in the directory for it to work? Do I only have to choose one? and if so, what is the considered the best and worst?

Also does DINPUT8.dll have to be put in the directory? because whenever it is, my game always crashes

You just extract all the contents of the zip to the directory. And then you configure what you want in DSfix.ini.

3072x2160 rendering resolution
SMAA high
VSSAO on, medium strength
2160 DoF with 3 extra gauss passes
(one screenshot is 26 MB as unscaled BMP lol)

So awesome. Why 3072x2160 resolution though, isn't that not 16:9?

Also are you using the (non jagged) ghost blade? Nice, pretty rare drop.

You've probably heard this a lot by now, but thank you for the fix man, phenomenal work sir.
Thanks for replying, but I just had two more questions.

Do I put the "dsifix" folder with SSAO files in the directory or just the SSAO files themselves?

Also when DINPUT8.dll is in the directory my game crashes and when I take it out of the directory it works absolutely fine. Am I doing something wrong?

I got save backups to work again but I had to clear out my saves, put it to 650 minutes and limit it to 10 saves instead of 100 or so

dsfix folder should be in the directory with those files.

1.1 is out

Bugfixes:

- SSAO depth buffer inaccuracy fixed. Removes line artifacts from SSAO.
- Added further renderpipeline state restoration after SMAA and checks whether we are at the correct stage. May (again) fix the SMAA issues some people are having.
- Fixed windows scaling issue when toggling between borderless windowed fullscreen and windowed mode.

New features:

- SSAO is now configurable in the .ini, with 3 strength presets (low, medium and high).
- Optional high-quality DoF blur. This allows you to set the sharpness as intended while still maintaining very high DoF image quality.
- And maybe the most requested one: HUD on/off toggle as bindable key action. Default is the right Ctrl key.

Very awesome.

Durante, that's some hot shit right there. That blur looks great :). SSAO is a welcome addition too (AMD User, never again)

Hmm, weird is still crashed to desktop with DINPUT8.dll, I even took out d3d9.dll but it still crashed. Will using d3d9.dll will prevent me from seeing all the new features?

Hmm, is it just me or does the effect on/off switching via numpad does not work anymore?

New blur, SSAO and hudless are all awesome. This is how the game should have shipped.

Edit: Fun fact, the hudless does not seem to work for dashes in the font.

You can still keybind the toggles, I just turned most of them off by default.

I think you forgot the readme file in this archive, might be wrong.

Also doesn't your mod remove the splash screens, bloody annoying.

and Thanks man!

Wow steady 30fps with the following and it looks fantastic!

Internal res 3820*2160
No MSAA
DOF 2160
DOF AB 4
SSAO 2

GPU: Nvidia Asus 670 DCII OC
CPU: Intel 2500K OC 4.3 Ghz

Thanks for the awesome work on this.

A lot of people are downloading this. Don't think I've ever had a 40 minute download estimate for 250 KB file.

hell yes! nice one durante! I donated btw and also would like to say, after a reboot, 1.0 SSAO was working without ANY slowdowns. Windows must have had something stuck in it before!

I really don't see the appeal of blurring the background.

I know it's the "intended way the game looks". I still don't get it.

I might just disable it. :D

The real time turning stuff on and off is nice. I couldn't see a difference with SMAA though. Maybe i'm just blind. I should try again with a more pronounced SMAA. Because of that, I wondered if some sort of overlay text telling you shit was ON of OFF would be possible, but I quickly dismissed that idea, because it's probably a lot of work for somethign that's not really needed.

As usual, great job Durante.

you really have to get close and look at the lines of models..rotate the camera next to an edge of a wall and flip it on and off. you will see some smoothing (if you set the ssao setting above 0)

BTW Durante...HUD toggle? YYEEEEAAAAA
