Dark Souls is the worst PC port I ever played.

Does DSCfix affect 'normal' co-op summons and invading in any way? In other words, can I install it without any penalties to the games original matchmaking?

Yes it won't effect the online.

There is a mod you can install that will make it significantly easier for GFWL to connect with your friends.

If the game can't work outside the box, fuck that I'm just going to uninstall the game and put in my crap category on steam and forget about that POS.

your loss, the game is gorgeous in 1080p/60fps. All you need to do is download and patch the game which would take you 5 minutes

I'll use this moment to say that I love you, Durante-sama.

Sad that the game requires DSFix, but at least it fixes it to really take advantage of the power of the PC.

edit: Woah now OP, don't go away so quickly now - it's a great game, and a stupid easy fix! Just 'cause the team in charge of the port sucked at their job, doesn't mean you outta go and throw it all out the window.

I do unterstand that position. However, Dark Souls is an amazing game and there is a fix for it. You are missing out of something special. IN this case you should just use the fix, really.

That seems counter productive.

The port is shit. No one can deny that. However, they already have your money. Might as well make as much of it as possible. That or get a refund. If you don't play then they get your money and support for nothing.

The fact that they didn't know how to port doesn't make it ok at all. Imagine if any company in any other sector did the same? It wouldn't be on.

Dude, why? There are times when having that strong of a conviction in life is necessary. This is not one of those times. It will literally take you a few minutes to install the fix.

"I refuse to download something that will vastly improve the experience of the game i paid money for that i don't currently like"

Are you familiar with the term 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'?

Open your pc case, pour water in it until it fills up, preferably while it's running.

NOT one of us
NOT one of us

Ok. You are literally the only person missing out by doing this. The developers already have your money, you might as well enjoy the game. If they don't have your money and you still have the game, then who cares what you think, fuck you.

I'm very glad the port exists.

I think that passing on the game entirely in order to try to send a small message to the developer about the quality of the port is pretty ridic, but I guess that's what's most important to some people.

:lol it really isn't.

The port is absolutely garbage. Grade A++ level shit.

DSFix makes it a lot better but that's a mod from the community. The devs fucked up, didn't care, did nothing to help and left the community to do their job.

So yea, it's a shit port but the community is great.

Durante did it in less than a day right? I'm puzzled as to why they simply didn't purchase his code and distribute it freely with darksouls.

...because it's not a port?

People asked for Dark Souls on Pc. They made exactly that available. It's PS3/360 Dark Souls on PC. That's why you NEED a controller to play it. That's why it looks exactly the same and has the same FPS that console versions have.

So there wasn't an official announcement just a translated interview that might be wrong.

Yeah, I'm staying far away from anything that FROM makes.

No the interview cannot "be wrong".

And what do you mean no official announcement? It IS an official announcement. What did you expect? As far as I know no company ever announces on their official site or something which system is the lead, this kind of stuff you learn from interviews.

Because officially supporting something implies, well, support costs. By not officially supporting the mod they can offload the support costs onto the community while still enjoying the sales from the people who bought it because the mod exists.

(I preordered the game and thoroughly enjoyed it.)

Well, even without DSFix you can play Blighttown at locked 30fps. :P

The hyperbole in this thread is unbelievable. The game is completely playable in every way "straight out of the box". DSfix does two important things, vastly improves the IQ of the game and allows for more then 30 FPS that's it. The PC version was still superior to the console versions even without the fix.

Does no one remember From Software literally stating, "Hey guys, just so you know we really don't know what the fuck we're doing with this, so it's gonna be pretty barebones, mkay?"
And DSfix is amazing.

I can't even get it to run half the time because of gfwl. Truly a horrible decision on top of the shit vanilla port. Still a solid game hidden underneath those issues though.

Not to defend the little effort that From went to porting the game but the OP becomes even more nonsensical with each new post. You're trying way too hard dude.

Eh, I tried that mouse fix mod, the game still plays like shit with a keyboard. There's no in game UI for mouse and keyboard, menus are still annoying to navigate, and the game still controls worse than a controller. I feel like moving the mouse should turn your character to be intuitive but it doesn't. It just turns the camera, meaning you can only really move in 8 directions. Kinda terrible.

This is for the best.

Last thing we need is a thread tomorrow from need4speed shitting on the game because he wandered into the graveyard early.

Yep. And we were still baffled because we simply couldn't believe they actually meant it.
But thank god for Durante.

This thread should probably earn this guy a forum tag.

Or this juvenile post right here

I'm not downloading any fix for this game, it would mean I supported this shitty product which I don't want to.

Sounds like a child who didn't get the candy they wanted, screaming and crying in the middle of a shopping mall.

As everyone else pointed out, the game looks/runs great when you apply the Durante fix.

That depends on your PC. The game can't run at a solid 30fps (I get framedrops here and there) on my HD5850/Phenom x4 955 regardless of which settings I choose.

I have no problem with GFWL.
