I'd swear you aren't allowed to get too many all in a row, regular probablility is not likely at play with farming...wasn't in demon's either in my opinion...others say I'm full of shit, but if poker sites and others play with the math why wouldn't an eccentric video game developer?

I was actually thinking this exact thing. I probably only managed about 34 clears so I guess it's too small a sample size to confirm that =/

Don't start to Skyrim right after Dark Souls.
Lack of rolling and no targeting in Skyrim makes it so weird lol.

That always threw me off about those games..just seems like you're blankly swinging in front of you..there's no sense of actually hitting. The weight of swings in Dark Souls, the crunch of connecting, so good.

Yeah, i love exploring in TES games but their combat mechanics is the only thing that never evolves and stays same with every new game from Bethesda. DS's combat style on a TES game would be godly!

One thing I regret is getting that fucking useless "regen" ring as my gift... if only I would had taken the master key....
Feels bad, man. The thing that bothers me is, if it didn't say it was "regen", I wouldn't have chosen it on my first time. It wasn't until later that I found out it was actually virtually useless.

Is there at least a trophy for acquiring all rings like in Demon's?

Hey guys, I have a retarded question.
Where do I have to go after killing
4 kings
,
Scaleless
and
Bed of Chaos
?
Where's the other one?

Yay! Finally beat
Gwyn
last night. That was intense, I only really learned how to parry the second quick attack of his, so I had to pray he used it. This came off of getting him down to a sliver of health and getting pounded, so I was more than happy to get him the next time.

So I am tearing shit up with my new PvP build, to say it politely. I went through my 'Players met' list yesterday and counted 36 individuals over the span of some hours. A whole bunch of them invaded me more than once, too, so I have no idea what the actual number of killed invaders is. Died twice.

Standing around in a dark Anor Londo is simply the most efficient, most fun way to PvP. You get higher level opponents through invading, sure, but not often more than one, so it's still not that hard. Well, except this one guy I invaded three times in a row, yesterday. They were all level 160 (I'm 120) - three people just waiting for me to spawn, everyone swinging their greatswords at the cheapest chance they got, giving me no chance to even spawn (is it even fun to play like this?).

The third time I invaded them, though, I was prepared. I got away, and was able to use my CMW, and I proceeded killing every single one, except the host, which I got down to a slither of health, but he annoyingly managed to heal, and then kill me.

I've found that being able to swap equipment is key. I have shield, tin crystallization catalyst in left and uchi +15 and pyro in right hand at the beginning of a fight. I then cast CMW with the tin (which uses 2 of my 3 CMW), and fight till that's out, then I swap to Sorcerer's Catalyst to use the last CMW, and when that's out I swap to Enchanted Uchigata +5. I've never once been hit while swapping.

It's been heaps of fun. Sometimes I feel my build is just too powerful. I often get invaded by two or three at once, and I manage to kill them easily. Some of the guys that come in with their huge swords that walk up to me and try to one-hit-stagger-and-kill-me tactic simply get met by two swift cuts by my Uchi, that does more damage than 6 of their hits, let alone the 1 they get in by the time they're dead.

Even Fog Ring + TWoP are a breeze now. They all seem to think that they can just walk up to me and start whacking on me with some huge weapon, but I simply attack back, and they normally die from two hits.

Today I'm gonna make Bandit's Dagger +15 and Enchanted Bandit's Dagger +5, and Enchanted Parrying Dagger +5 (I think) and start using that with Hornet Ring. Should be a challenge!

I just tried a parrying/rapier loadout and it's tough to say the least..feel naked without a shield to be able to deflect hits I know I can't dodge/parry. Still getting used to pvp though in general. Like you said switching on the fly is the key to being good..sometimes a fumble with my equipped weapon or spell means instant death.

That's a special enemy randomly born from a dropped item by another player in another world.
It's called "vagrant" I believe.

Man..just to talk more about how Japanese are into crazy ass pvp and not bowing.. just invaded into dark AL and the guy had a white phantom set up at the S and O door just dragon bowing every spawning invader. Love it.

top picture? I'm not sure but I'm guessing one of those enemies created from another player dropping an item?

The second picture is your humanity. That is a number range between 1 and 99 and tells you how much humanity you have active at that time. With that 1 humanity you can:

-enjoy a slightly higher drop rate
-"reverse hollow" at a bonfire (basically, return to human form)
-if you're ALREADY in human form, kindle a bonfire to get additional estus flasks out of it (to 10, or 15 or 20 depending on where you are in the game)

More pvp tales..invading two guys who are moving the elevator in the middle of AL and as a result have created this glitched out white space..but now they moved it up and are just bowing is from the top. No bows were hurt in the making of this pvp session.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable youtube video of somebody glitching souls with a summoned phantom standing on a box or some stairs slightly higher up so it appears as if he's getting blown.

Somebody is going to do it. I can't be the only one who has thought of this.

Been trying for over an hour to get 2 more kills in the forest to get the fog ring (which I don't even plan to use in PvP!) but it's fucking impossible. I got one more kill because I was lucky enough to invade someone as they were being killed by someone else.

I keep running into fog ringers, people co-oping, and people co-oping while wearing fog rings.

I would have more fun than I am now if I just put the cat ring on and left the game running until I happen to invade at another opportune moment.

Am I just terrible or is forest PvP pretty fucked?
It doesnt hurt to get more familiar with items. This is something Ive only recently started doing more consistently. Namely Lloyds talisman and the green blossom. Lloyds talisman prevents people from using estus and the best thing about it? Not many people even realize. I beat three guys in a row because they kept trying to use estus and as the animation of them trying to use it played out, I used that opportunity to burn them.

There is also the green blossom. This increases the rate that your stamina bar refills so I put that on and use the grass crest shield and you can pretty much swing like a mad man (if you so choose). And to make it even more powerful, throw on the wolf ring and they wont really be able to interrupt you as easily.

These tactics dont guarantee a win obviously but it certainly helps. The best thing about them is that they are mostly hidden. So its not as big a tell as, say, using a fog ring. Your opponent doesnt immediately know what youre working with. I doubt they ever do.

Man I've been having such crazy pvp experiences..but the most frustrating is how much hp people seem to have at around SL 90.. I swear I'm doing crazy swings, backstabbing, and these people always have life left. It's certainly not like the pvp videos where people 2 shot eachother..I mean I don't have outrageous weapons but man..I guess I should just make a +15 Uchi and get it over with.

tell me about it, just last night i managed to parry and riposte someone with my Chaos Knife while using Hornet Ring.... he still gets up with plenty of health and hits me with two normal swings with some lightning sword and i die.

BULLSHIT.

i guess i have to start putting points into Vitality too :(

Yeah..the fire and lightning stuff just owns me completely every time. I tried a CMW with rapier build but I just could never get it off. Now I'm doing a Seath's Tail Sword build (slow leveling my int and vit) and I get the less skilled players but the decent ones just always survive 3-4 hits from me in the face and keep living to smack me once.

Yeah, with my CMW Uchi +15, I'd probably just swing through your slower swings, get in two hits, and you're done.

Remember that when you invade, there is no level cap upwards. If you're invading as SL1, you can be invading someone that's SL710.

Also, the amount of souls you get when you kill someone in PvP is not the amount of souls he was carrying, but what level he was. You can use this calculator to figure out which level based on how many souls you got: http://sites.google.com/site/darksoulstats/dark-souls-calculators/stat-planner

I really need some tips on the Four Kings in NG+. What the shit, I just trolled Sif and figured I'll finally get to join Darkwraith soon but these guys are not playing fair at all. I've tried everything from increasing my poise to pumping souls into a pyro glove etc. In my most successful run I killed two kings and I managed this by pretty much dodging everything and rarely taking a shot on the king, this took me a good 20 minutes just to down two and the health bar wasn't even 3/4.

yeah it has insane reach. the running attack often gets people by surprise, killed many using it. also good when they try to run away, easy to poke them from behind with the running attack.

With increased poise/heavy armor, you don't dodge anything they do except when getting in close. You're supposed to just two-hand your strongest weapon, let your armor handle defense, then just wail on a king until he's dead. Once a king is dead, heal, then repeat the process on the next king until they're all dead. I did this with full Havel's Armor + grass crest shield (but on my back, since I'm 2 handing) for stamina + green herbs for additional stamina regen + Quelaag's Furysword. I think the speedrun guy used stone armor.

The idea with the four kings is that you're not supposed to face all of them at once and expect to get through with pure dodging/blocking. You're supposed to kill them as fast as possible so that they don't get a chance to spawn and gang up on you.

Oh wait, you mean NG+. I did that in NG but haven't gotten to them in NG+ yet.

Time for me to look into getting a washing pole. I don't really like how the Uchi's moveset has very little arc.

Magic upgrade path goes to +10, give the large magic ember to the New Londo Ruins blacksmith to modify +5 to +6

Why not wear both? Use a lighter medium shield like Spider along with Target Shield or Parrying Dagger.

Spider + Parrying Dagger + Rapier is only 5 weight; less than just a Claymore.

Anyone here a boss and play the game without a shield?

Did you know you can parry with your fist? I've only done it once but it's doable.

Is the parrying dagger/target shield really that much better for parrying? The special animation on a parrying dagger seems to have longer startup and recovery than the normal parry from a medium shield.

Are there any lowbie preferred builds? I'm on a playthrough where I'm trying to keep my character low. Started as a pyro, and I've gotten him just high enough to use the FDS. Would that mean my best build bet would be to go something lightning (Iaito?) or...?

I think I will avoid PvP until the patch hits. Even then I have little faith in it being fun overall. I guess I'm just spoiled by the balance and structure of playing stuff like SSFIV.

I was able to farm 9 Souvenirs of Reprisal over the last two nights and got tons of souls doing it. So, I thought it would be fun to get the last one I needed via the actual way I supposed to be getting them - through the Darkmoon covenant membership.

Ugh. The waiting time is annoying enough but two people used fog rings, they all spammed magic and one murdered me before I was ready. I'm not saying it's unfair it just would have nice to have at least ONE clean fight with another melee specialist like myself.

The dagger is amazing but after 4 hours of pvp I just don't see where parrying could come in.. either their attacks are pressuring me too much or they're swinging crazy 2 handed.. it just requires a level of skill I don't think I'd ever have. Getting off backstabs is also really annoying for me..I saw a video where a guy literally just rolls towards his opponents to get behind them and backstabs but never..never did it work for me.. people just strafe around too much.

The Iaito R2 is cool, and probably very useful, but the 10 extra damage, plus being able to buy Uchi's made me use them.

To backstab, one good tactic is untargetting, then running or rolling behind, and then backstab. Parrying is a fun game. It's my kind of thing. Reading the opponent, even baiting out an attack so you can parry it. People are pretty predictable.

Akuun said:

Parrying dagger doesn't have a longer startup for when you actually parry, and it goes on longer than the window to correctly parry than any other left hand weapon, which is why it's so good.

Wish there were dedicated servers instead of P2P. Too many times in PvP I see an opponent running toward me, have him locked on and engaged, then suddenly he's behind me backstabbing me.

Or times when I think I judged to have enough space to apply CMW or use homing soulmasses, but nope, the opponent somehow reaches me and backstabs me, even though I'm already out of the casting animation and in mid-roll.

What sucks is I really like the pvp in this game..I just always felt (going back to Demon's) that I was behind the curve..either didn't have the right build or right weapon..and I never cared enough to go get it. I'll try pvp a bit more and get to SL120..but man it's tough to get into it when everyone else is so good.

The parrying window is longer, and that tends to be more important for successful parries than the speed/recovery. If you miss the window, recovery time isn't going to matter.

With my last character, I beat the game at SL22:
15 VIT
20 END
16 STR
12 DEX

I used old reliable Lightning Spear a lot in PvE. Iaito is one of my favorite PvE weapons but it requires 20 DEX, and it was more important to put points into END.

If I had it to do over, I might have left my STR at 11 and skipped the Drake Sword and relied on Pyromancy to make it to Sen's. I thought 16 STR would be worthwhile to use the Claymore in PvP, but playing a Rapier character seems to be more fun.

What should be my next sword after the Drake sword? I know by upgrading some I can probably get a better one, but I want to know which to look out for.

Drake sword is still ripping through people but I don't think that will last.

Why does everyone like to keep their SL so low? The extra challenge? Being able to invade/help weaker players? More likely to be able to find a PvP match? All of the above?
