Yeah, I'm rolling with the greatshield of artorias and that sucker was an immovable object man, I could really feel how each blow would've killed me or sent me flying across the map had I not had that shield....
You'll need the key to the sea to drain the water in new londo to get Very Large Ember that to take a weapon from +10 to +15 , you can get the key by killing one of the NPCs on the roof ( though i heard it's bugged on PC) or talking to the NPC in new londo on the roof after you have the lord vessel.
What you want is the large ember if i'm not mistaken zephervack, to get your weapon to +10.It in the depths in a chest guarded behind a butcher.. you can't miss it.
You can go in pretty quickly, grab some Transient Curse and wreck your way through the ghosts to Ingward. But yeah, on PC currently you run the risk of breaking your save forever if he doesn't drop the key, and the specifics on the bug aren't known.
Once you get the key, you explore a bit in the lower parts of New Londo and find the Very Large Ember hidden away on a walkway in the main building.
Why would you need it to +15 by then? But .. whatever.
You need the 'Very Large Ember' from New Londo after you drain it. You can kill the Sealer and he will drop the key, but **WARNING** apparently on the PC, there is a chance that he will NOT drop the key. Unless you have your saves backed-up, you pretty much ruin your game.
Otherwise, you need to do Sens and Anor Londo for him to give you the key through talking.

Damn that sounds really risky, Im just starting to get bored with my +10 claymore, I have had it for a while and feel like I need something with more punch.
Maybe Im just jealous of the guy I played Co op with the other day, he was staggering all the serpents at Sens fortress with his awesome Zweihander, I have the Zweihander but I cant wield it properly and it will take many many levels for me to be able to.
So I went through the Depths until I got to the Gaping Dragon, who seemed way to powerful for me to tackle right now. I'm SL 30, is there somewhere else I should go?
There's tons of weapon choices in the game, and most of them are viable choices if you upgrade them.
Looking at your stats, some weapons I like that you can use right now: halberd, gargoyle's halberd, sunlight straight sword, balder side sword, claymore. Depending on the weapon/your stats the attack rating will start to eclipse the Drake Sword as you near +10.
Even if you use the drake sword through blighttown it's a good idea to be upgrading something else in tandem. There's a pretty standard drake sword replacement you can stumble across, but it's a spear weapon, and it's not that great anyway.

24 str/10 dex, or 16 str/10 dex if you two hand because you get a strength mulltiplier by 1.5 I think it's one of the most reasonable weapon requirements actually. You'll get that in no time.

SL25-30 is about right for the dragon, have some patience and learn his attacks/weaknesses - he isn't that had, but he does have a hefty bit of health.
Might want to upgrade some of your items if you haven't already, taking a weapon even to +5 can be a big help, and with the large ember that you got near the start - should be able to upgrade to +10.
The slime-ball things around there can drop upgrade shards, as can the Balders in undead parish - or simply buy them from the smith.
If you are human, summon another player - or, you can summon both Knight Solarie and Lauretec (only if you rescued him from the beltower I believe..) which can help you out a bit. I find people often make the mistake of thinking 'grinding levels' is the answer, when often - it isn't.
Some tips.
1. Try and chop off his tail, make sit much safer/easier to attack from behind
2. Run around and avoid him, when he slams his head into the ground - his head takes extra damage, and you can get in a few good shots. Take 1 or 2 hits, then run back and wait for him to do it again

So nvidia releases new drivers and they don't have Dark Souls SLI profile? Not really a big deal, other profiles work just fine just would be nice for some support. And maybe they could add in a custom MSAA profile as well.
Good!, I was probably too stressed about the battle, im glad it is still there, I was starting to freak out about what other effects are missing on the PC.

So, I have a +8 Balder Side Sword and a dead blacksmith (Andre of Astora). Is this going to be the most powerful weapon I can use the rest of the game? Or is there another weapon I can find that can somehow be upgraded by a living blacksmith?
You can upgrade your armor, but I hope you enjoy only ever having +5 weapons the rest of the game. Depending on how far you are, you're better off restarting.
Before I take the plunge and buy this on Steam can someone quickly run through the online features of the PC version? Is there Co-OP play? Is it PVP, meaning can I go into someone else's game and kill them?
Thanks for the help, guys. I really don't want to start over so I'm crossing my fingers that a +8 BSS is enough to complete the game.
How much more difficult is NG+? I might just get through my NG run as quickly as possible (as few optional areas as I can manage) and then explore the whole world in NG+. Maybe.
Either option is fine - you would be surpirsed how quickly you can get through the game by restarting when you know what you are doing now, and you know what not to bother with. THe only mandatory bosses are
the bell ones, iron golem, S&O, and then the four lordvessel bosses, nito, seath, bed of chaos, and 4 kings.
If you feel like you are doing ok with the game and learning well, then you couyld easily do the game (with co-op help of course) with SL1 no upgrades. No upgrades is proving difficult for me on 4 kings but O&S went down with me and a partner both using no upgrade characters (only weapons you can use that are any good are the samller clubs...divine downgraded from occult is the best damamge, but reinforced club has bleed and a neat R2 attack)
Other options exist for you to use your BSS the way it is:
Raise stats in faith and use the Darkmoon or SUnlight buffs for your weapon to greatly increase damage...they are only 60 seconds per go, but you can use rings to extend or other magic/pyro/miracles to stack damage boosts. THe red tearstone ring allows great damage boost but you have to be very low in health ot benefit. YOu can also use resin to buff your BSS, pine is strong, but some are weak to fire, and poison is poison, but not too helpful really as poison can be inflicted better ways at a range.
ALso the lightning spear comes as a plus 1 lightning weapon when found in
sen's fortress
I actually like spears and used this upgraded to +5 right through to NG+ my first playthrough. YOu do not need ANdre to do this one. Other found weapons exist but IIRC the fire paths and choas path require the green shards right form the start do they not??? HTat way you can upgrade fire and chaos weapons, have the lightning spear fully upgraded, and the BSS with various buffs and you should be all right.
If you decide to go magic the best sword in the entire game and whose name is the signature sword for the developers
moonlight great sword
is upgraded with dragon scales...and incidentally if you go strenght based, you could get a lot of weaposn that max with dragon, demon's titanite, or twinkling titanite, so really you have still have a LOT of options including most strnght players favourite sub-class the ever popular
Black Knigt
collection.
All that said, I HATE being limited and not having options and would start over if I were in your positoin..the last time I screwed up (ingward bug) I got the lordvessel in a little over 4 hours....and did a lot of grinding etc. A speed run does the whole game in a little over 100 minutes, 45 to get the lordvessel, but that is sprinting from boss to boss with no smellign the roses so to speak.
WEll if you are that powerful, you have the ability to assess how they are doing and if they are obviously noobish and can get them down to low health, then bow and offer a truce/peace offering like a dark hand or something, and go on to escort them to the boss gate, killing all the enemies on the way for them. I fyou earn their trust not to attack you, then you can send messages and help with questions they might have as well.
Either option is fine - you would be surpirsed how quickly you can get through the game by restarting when you know what you are doing now, and you know what not to bother with.
Thanks for the information. I missed the spear, but I'll go back if I'm having trouble with just my BSS. I really don't want to have to restart so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be strong enough. I know I'd be much faster going through again, but 25 hours is a lot of progress to throw away.
Just hit Anor Londo for the first time and the difficulty spike was a little startling. Then I got invaded .008 seconds after restoring humanity at the first bonfire. I just wanted to kindle the damn thing, people...

25 hours is nothing for me, but as a 1000+ hours souls and not much else gamer you can understand my position?????!?!? I can't uderstand why people can say this is the top 5 if not THE game of the generation, then only play through once and not try the different paths like magic nor faith, nor try toon characters like solaire, Kirk, etc. etc. etc. etc....how can anyone say they have truly played the souls series with out dual wielding-lightning avelyns???? Bit of a joke there, but by playing a zero upgrade SL1 pyro you make it a TOTALLY different game and a new experience all together, which has even more levels of reward...all for the price of one game.
On another note:
GOt my Korean 27 inch Monitor - 2560-1440 - IPS. What settings to do I set for the Durant fix now? I am not downscaling right now and lef tthe DOF at 1080. Of course i chaged the in gmae menu to 25650-1440 16bit..is there a 32 I missed? What should I downscale from if I downscale BTW?????
ALready looks AWESOME and only $100 more than my BenQ tn 24 inch.

in theory you can do both. in practice gfwl means it's a little hit or miss, but it's basically the same as the console versions in terms of online features.
Damn connection issues. Was sitting at a bonfire for 5ish minutes waiting for either this guys attempted invasion of me to work so we could fight or fail so I could rest. Ended up just getting sick of waiting and alt+f4'ed.

You can downsample from just about any resolution that you can think of.
2560x1440 is still 16:9 aspect ratio.
So divide the width by 1.7777778 to get the height.
Some examples:
1920/1.7777778 = 1079.9999 (round up to 1080)
2560/1.7777778 = 1439.9999
3109/1.7777778 = 1748.8
Again, round all these numbers up. I usually choose the width resolution to be as close as possible to the next whole number, honestly doesn't matter though.
I love 1v2 invasions, but I hate people that quit in the middle of fights
Invaded some guy in the Depths on my new dex/faith char and he summoned a friend and they turtled in the bonfire room despite having the man advantage. I even backed way off to allow them to kill the mobs so we could fight.
Eventually I got bored of waiting for them and charged in to lure them out, I had to back off to survive both of them constantly attacking me but eventually I nailed the summoned guy with a lightning spear and thrust attack follow up and the main guy quit out immediately after the summon died.
I'd suggest any Long Sword, but specifically the Balder's Straight Sword; you can get it off of the Balder's with the Balder Shield in Undead Parish but it's a pretty rare drop. Or you can buy it from the vendor in Sen's Fortress. It's got an insane reach for a long-sword, seems to be the longest one, and feels like when thrusting with R2 it's got the range of a wooden spear. The slashing attacks cover a wide arc and it's pretty lovely, not often stopped by surrounding terrain/geometry.
If you don't want a Long Sword, go for a Halberd, but they require more strength than you have at the moment. Still, it's a viable choice.
You may also want to give the Morning Star or another Mace a try (morning star is better for PVP, it has a Bleed effect). They're a bit slow but hit quite hard, and when you get familiar with the moveset PVE becomes cake with most enemies. Axe's are good too, but there aren't many choices.
Really, just try a few lower level weapons around Undead Parish and see how you like the movesets. The drake sword is good, but the arc gets caught on geometry a bit too often and it's not as powerful as other weapons you can upgrade to fire/lightning/magic/divine etc...

It would be nice if they could implement some sort of detection for quitting ungracefully while invaded. If it was done, it should insta-kill the person quitting in the spot and reward you as if you killed them, when they return they are hollowed and have to retrieve their blood stain.

In case nobody answered this, the route is hard to explain so just follow this vid, it's quite easy. The vid misses it but once you drop onto the first pickup, look below, you'll see another one directly under you so carefully drop onto it. And watch out for the skeletons, those pricks will follow you down there.
Easiest way is arrows on NG+. Get your DEX up as high as you're willing to farm, upgrade a bow as far as you can (preferably a lightning Long Bow or Pharis Bow). Buy about 300 large arrows and pelt him standing against the far wall where the rats hang out. Red Tearstone Ring is probably a must if you don't have high DEX.
You could also probably melee him, but I never had any luck on NG+. If he goes to heal, just try to keep hitting him in the head with arrows.
I've beaten him on NG+ (melee) by using that staircase in the middle of the bridge. Lure him down there, run up the stairs and hit him two-handed a couple of times, go back down the stairs to dodge him, rinse and repeat.
Being on NG+ and having everything carry over from my previous game, it really didn't take long at all.
I think the tricky part is getting him to land down there so you can actually start hitting him. I was trying it the other day on my new file and had a ton of trouble.

If you just wait in the safe spots on either side of the bridge for around 30 seconds he'll fly down 100% of the time. If you shoot an arrow it makes him do it a little faster.
Ah, I may have done that the first time I beat him.
When I was playing the other night, I didn't have a bow (or crossbow) and I somehow got him to land down there once. I don't know exactly how I provoked him, I just kept running around on the bridge dodging his flames and he eventually came down there.

I've been just farming the silver knights like crazy while waiting to be summoned (it's actually acceptably fast). I gift every summoner a silver knight spear lol.
Also, I guess I'm doing Ornstein first in NG+. Mein gott.
This was my first encounter with Kalameet, heh. I put my sign in front of Artorias and the dude just started walking in Kalameet's direction. We were doing well and then he got himself killed
