Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition |OT| Durante Does In 23 Minutes What From Can't

Wait I should change that, not DLC just the PTDE stuff. Lol, I've been talking to mates who play it on the PS3 a lot and they call the extras 'DLC stuff'. Haha confusing talking to two different groups about the same thing when they have different slang. Unless of course you're asking how to get to the Artorias and Oolacile areas?

Artorias and Oolacile please. I am at the end of the game and want to know where the new areas are. I am on blackout on anything but the main game. Just want a vague answer as to where they are.

Kill the hydra in Darkroot basin and rescue Dusk from the crystal golem.
Go to Duke's Archives and kill the first Crystal Golem that's in the corner of the room after going up the first elevator. He will drop the broken pendant.
Go back to Darkroot basin where Dusk was trapped.

Wow, after posting some tips here a couple of days ago on how to beat the Four Kings, I am having a horrible time with them in NG+. Complete and utter failure - I just can't beat the first one quick enough before the next one spawns. So many times I've just had to do a runner with all 4 of them and those horrible purple bolts on my tail, and homeward bone the hell out of there, lol.

Can't believe how quickly NG+ flies past. NG took about 80 hours, but I've managed to reach this point again - one boss fight left before it's off to the Kiln - in what, 8 hours? Such a great feeling knowing the ins and outs of this game, and even then I'm sure there's heaps that I've missed.

On a separate note, I've figured out a great way to combat invading phantoms - run to your nearest narrow bridge and stand in the middle - or any narrow pathway which completely eliminates dirty backstabs. If they want to engage you, they have to come at you head on... and with a maxed out pyro glove and Great Chaos Fireballs, they do so at their peril.

eh. i'm stuck there too. i don't have the endurance to go full havel so i go full black iron +5, grass crest shield and +10 fire claymore. sometimes they even oneshot me, sometimes i can kill 1-2 kings.

Yeah, the jump up in difficulty for them in NG+ is immense and much more noticeable than any other boss, IMO.

I reckon I'm going to try a Power Within run with maybe an upgraded Black Knight Greataxe next up. Been using a Fire Flamberge +9 but I'm not doing enough damage.

LOL I just threw myself into the Abyss but hit the stairs on the way down and died.

=) I always run all the way down the staircase now in case it happens again. But far out that staircase goes on forever.

Power within is the way to go for 4K in NG+, especially if your most powerful weapon is an elemental one.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. Thinking of maybe upgrading the Server to reap the benefits of the absorbed HP while Power Within is slowly draining it.

Well mostly just things from the DLC tying in.
This also all occurs backwards in time. So is it possible that you caused a few things to occur in the current time?

mind blown. I choose to believe that's the case.

I choose to as well, however I'm not sure what the consensus is on the lore with all the wikis and such.
Marvellous Chester mentions that he got sucked back in time when you first talk to him as a merchant before the Artorias fight and asks if the same thing happened to you, seemed like the same description, so I assume that Royal Wood IS Darkroot Garden before Oolacile gets destroyed by Seath
It's all very complicated.

Got three kings dead but three more spawned and man they had their way with me...

Might need some assistance myself...

Yeah, all seems to indicate that, since the layout and enemies are both very similar.
And since you kill Artorias in the Royal Wood, it's only natural his grave is in Darkroot Garden. You also seem to have retroactively prevented the taint of the Abyss from spreading by killing Manus, so I guess that's why the Darkroot garden looks a lot less corrupted.

Is there a reason why Sif
is small in the past, but huge in the present
?
Beause he aged? I think he's just a pup in the DLC.

edit: lol beaten and with the same words

Somehow I had no trouble with the four kings, using pure physical damage weapons and everything, killed them first try. Sprint to them, roll->slash->roll->slash->repeat.

Definitely agreed on that
and I actually wonder how things changed the way they did. It seems like Artorias' grave is in the area with the bonfire coming out into the royal wood, though I could be reading the area wrong, but that's a pretty big move for his grave. And I'd say where you fight Kalameet is the area behind the Hydra later. It's all changed a lot though. It actually makes me wonder if Oolacile eventually became Undead Burg? Though the areas don't really look alike... probably just grasping at straws there actually, I think the connection is in the wrong place.

The Server's heal is too negligible for it to matter, and Power Within's drain itself isn't enough to warrant it unless you go all out and go hyper-mode as well. At that point the Sanctus will do.

It's kinda hilarious how hard they make it accessing DLC you probably just bought. ;D I mean if you don't read this up you would never find the solution.

Yeah, I had some trouble in the fight because I started using the Lifehunt Scythe without the Bleed Resist ring (I traded it for Covenant of the Abyss' ring), so half way the fight I started bleeding myself bad, so I had to switch back to the Iaito mid fight and it just does way less damage than the scythe.

My next attempt will be Bloodshield+Bleed Resist ring (will see to change it up quickly the second I land in the Abyss) and maybe Power Within. I think I can do without the Silver Knight Shield since their attacks are easy to dodge, anyways...

I thought Oolacile might be Kiln because of the shape of the colosseum in which you fight Artorias is similar to one of the big buildings in the background of Kiln. Unfortunately I didn't get a good look in NG, but I'll see if I can take a picture of what I mean

lol, you are 82 on NG+??? I was 74 on NG and I still needed 2-3 tries. They were easy though. ;D
You think it's too low? I already have 40 in DEX and END, what else would I want?

I'm 101 currently. :p
42 in dex, 40 in VIT and END (a bit useless, but i'm not interested in multi so far).
I'll cap at 120 i think, so the remaining 19 points i COULD put on faith and become a Sunbros, who knows.

AFAIK You cannot unequip the Artorias ring while in the Abyss.

You should be right on the next try, I'm amazed at how well strength does when there's enough points in everything.

I don't think so, it doesn't connect up in the right places. I think I can understand what you mean though, it is kind of reminiscent.

I'm pretty sure you can. I can't remember if I did that on NG.

Maybe it's just the ruins of Ooalice in the distance, but not Kiln itself. I think it being Kiln is very unlikely, since Ooalice seems to be not really related to Gwyn, so it'd be a pretty bad place to link the flame/set the end boss.

Undead Burg could be Balder, since it's filled with Balder Knights and all.

I love blind speculation :)

She's a demon fiend, I enjoy it.

Any tips vs Artorias? He seems doable but I'm not doing enough damage with my Queelag +3.

Best tip I've got is to get a really good shield. If you can block his attacks just close range face-tank with shield up and learn his moveset then quick attack when he's down. That's how I did it

I can do it till he uses that magic and becomes 2x as strong. :-/ He just murders me then. Havels Armor + Crest Shield + Lighting Spear +5...

When he's powering up, rush him down and attack like crazy. That stops him from buffing, but if you're slow you'll get caught in a blast.

Yeah i rescued the first guy, but he went crazy or something and i found him in BT and he attacked me :( so i had to kill him.

ya....I've NEVER found him in blight town after hes left to go down there...where is he??? is tehre any specifics I need to do to make him appear? I swear I've covered every end of that swamp and never found him. any tips?

From earlier in the thread:

Red Liquorice said:
As for Laurentius, if you have the great chaos fireball from the spiderlady covenant or have Ascended your pyromancy flame with Quelana in Blighttown, when you speak to him next he will ask you about it - if you tell him the truth by answering 'yes', he will go to Blighttown and turn on you.

He's pretty much right across from the sewer bonfire.

You can get him to cancel his super charge if you rush him and two-hand your current weapon. His tell is pretty damn easy too, as he does about three backsteps. Rush him, rush him, rush him.

He's strong against basically every kind of elemental attack, so you're better off with a strong normal weapon.

Oh wow that just sounds like a horrible set up lol.

That fight encourages dodging. Getting under 25% load is key.

Lightning spear is a horrible weapon period, but especially against this boss.

You will want a high stability shield for mistakes, and crest doesnt have it.

Fuck, I read on the interwebs that he's weak against lightning and so I leveld the spear to +5! It makes much more damage than my chaos sword for sure. I don't have any "normal" weapon available I'm afraid. :-' Which shield would be good, tell me a name so I can check if I own that.

Holy shit, I'm dying over here.

Silver Knight shield has good stability and is easily upgradable with twinkling titanite although it's a bit heavy I think. I personally like the grass crest shield for the stamina regen even though it's only 95% reduction on physical and doesn't have especially high stability. Of course you could always use the mask of the child or a green blossom as well, but you shouldn't be blocking too much anyways - roll around like a motherfucker.

My crest shield +3 has 61 stability and the silver knight shield has 64...does that really make any difference?

Stability makes a world of difference. Even having it a couple of points higher can mean the difference between being staggered out by your stamina and having enough to survive an entire combo without a scratch.

I made him bent over with Havels Armor, Lightning Spear, great Fireball so that he couldn't power up and 16 estus flasks.

That's how I roll. You guys can roll like a clown as much as you want.

Need more info on the lore guys.

So I asked way before if there is something I needed to know before fighting Sif, as I had read some people saying " FROM why do you make me do this" after defeating Sif.

This lead me to believe something happened during the Sif fight, I just fought and beat him and nothing really happened, he was an awesome boss, but nothing really happened story wise to make me feel bad for killing him.

Now I spoiled myself a bit and read something about how you can find him in puppy form. Now im freaking out, did I sequence break the game? have I missed the chance to see him as a puppy?

:(

Second question. I have beat O&S, Sif, the painted world and the catacombs, not sure where im supposed to go next, I can go to the valley of the drakes, Ruins of Londo and Tomb of Giants.

Valley of the Drakes is really just a shortcut area, nothing much there other than some items.

Tomb of the Giants and New Londo Ruins are your next destination.

You get to see Sif again in the new content, don't worry.
