Do you reckon I'll need help in Anor Londo then? I don't really have the patience to spend days trying to kill a boss, so any help would be appreciated
How do you summon people anyway? And how do you make yourself available to be summoned?
You need to be restored to human at a bonfire. Then you will hopefully see summon signs on the ground which you can use to summon people to fight the boss with you.
Alternatively you can use the stone in your inventory, when alive, to leave a sign for others to use.
Then you wait a long time and realise the PC summoning sucks and doesn't work properly.
As for your stats? I can't see how you don't have the patience to beat the boss if you have already grinded out all that. You will destroy the level and the rest of the game.

Do you have to buy the stones to be summoned by others, and do you have to be human to use it? I'm on PS3 which I think is pretty active, so I'd like to help someone

You're way way way more prepared than I ever am at Anor Londo! Good luck, though, it can be a fun experience or a frustrating one. The worst parts for the first time through (bosses aside) are the Snipers and the Mimics.
The eagle shield can be pretty helpful here. Iirc it has good lightning reduction.

You can summon Solaire for the boss if you can't summon other players. He's pretty helpful.
The DS wikia has me worried now. It says that to be prepared you should have a +5 fire weapon, +10 Pyromancy Glove and 200 Poison Arrows, with 20 spare Humanity. Smough and Ornstein can't be that hard, surely?

I just got to Anor Londo last night. I have a Black Knight Shield +2 & Zweihander + 7. None of my armor is upgraded and I have no spells. All you need is roll and a good weapon. It's cake so far.
I was dc'd last night but got back on later. But now, it's down and I can't even sign on manually in the game. It seems broken. Lots of discussion on steam about it as well. Even though the server status page for live says it's fine, nobody can connect. Doesn't seem limited to DS either.
Can I just say, as much as I'm enjoying the game, the gaps between the bonfires is not a real well designed challenge, it's just fucking obnoxious. It's almost like they're encouraging you to grind. Having to fight your way back through the same enemies over and over after you die is just monotonous crap.
Just killed the first Armoured Tusk to let you know where I am.

Good luck! You're way more than fine. Typical summoning range for Ornstein & Smough is something like level 50ish. At your level, I'm not sure if you are in summoning range anymore, and possibly overleveled for that area to boot.
Mid roll is fine for your character - fast roll is only really important for PvP, or for characters that must be played like they can't really block (low-level characters, or builds with low stamina or a crappy/absent shield). I see you have an Eagle Shield, so you don't need to play like you can't block. O&S are totally fine with midroll + your equipment.
Short answer: You're more than prepared. Just get in there.

I'm just gonna explain why I'm a higher level than normal
Say I need 25,000 souls to Level Up, and have 8,000 souls. I am constantly petrified of losing souls, even in that amount, so I will farm and farm, grind and grind until I get enough to level up, where most people will move on with the game.
I've probably spent about 5% of my time moving forwards
I have a Lightning Defense ring as well btw so I should be good for Smough and Ornstein
Are those statues of them life size? They're huge. Don't want to know what happens if I get hit by the hammer

I was like that at the very first bit of the game. I hit level 20 before beating the Taurus Demon. Then I eventually got used to dying and losing tons of souls. It's just another part of the game.
My guess is that at this point, O&S have been overhyped for you, and you've probably overprepared for them. Stop reading up on them and just go and see them for yourself. Besides, you have to get through the rest of Anor Londo before you even get to see them

You should be totally fine for Anor Londo. You're probably a bit over-leveled for PvE, but that's no big deal.
O&S are tough, but in my opinion their difficulty is a bit over exaggerated. Just stay calm, keep a cool head and don't get overwhelmed. The key is to keep them separated, and if you need to heal or anything like that put some pillars between you and them.
As for the asshole archers, if you've got the Ring of Fog or Hidden Body, along with poison arrows, it's an absolute cake walk. If not you can just rush on up there. It's a bit riskier but usually goes fine.
AL has the biggest concentration of bonfires in the game. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about the advice posted on the wikis either, you don't need any of that shit. You're more than ready with a +10 halberd and eagle shield

I barely ever use the Eagle Shield cos it looks rubbish
I don't really like the way the shield upgrades only upgrade the damage they do. Why would you equip a shield in the right hand as a weapon? I think you should get +.5 stability and +1 defense for whatever effect the shield specialises in defending against

Actually you can get out of the Painted World easily and quickly. Once you're through the first house area, you reach the tower and can access the bridge. While I recommend going through it all to open the doors to the entrance->square and tower->bridge, you can run through the area using the initial route, kill the non-respawning undead dragon (it's easy because it can't hit you if you stay behind the chest-high broken wall along the tower staircase and its attacks are long and slow) and drop to the bottom part of the bridge. Right by where you drop is the knight, so if you don't recover fast enough it can hit you. Use Ring of Fog there if you have it.
Have some of the herbs that cure poison/toxic (I forget which one) on hand, though. Or, use your bow.
The only genuinely annoying part of the Painted World, otherwise it's my favorite area, are the roller wheel skeleton things. Fuuuuck those.

Hahahahah. I had none of that. Actually, I did have a the Furyblade +2 or whatever but my BSS +10 out-damaged it by orders of magnitude and the reach was superior.
Honestly, take the wiki's recommendations with a grain of salt. When I took the wiki information to heart and followed it, I usually died. Using its recommended preparations messes with my natural process. Read it to know what to expect, but not how to play is how I'd put it.
There's a bonfire directly after the archers. When you step through the fog gate, it's the first door to the left. For S&O, I use the Princesses's Tomb bonfire.

Fuck, can't seem to handle 4 kings. I manage to get them down to half health, because the others seem to leave me alone when I'm hugging one. However, they can suddenly decide to send homing projectiles or use AOE explosions.
I'm not really enjoying this boss. The abyss is hard to orient yourself, and I'm even confused if I'm out of range for an attack or not.
The worst thing is I can't find anyone I can summon. The very few signs I find fail, so my patience is running thin. Anyone want to help me with the 4 kings? I'm SL 53.
I enjoy them both, but for me Dark Souls has the upper hand for the seamless world transition with often incredible level design and shortcuts. The armor sets are more interesting and diverse, the graphics are more detailed.
Demon's Souls however controls better, has way better online functionality and seems to have better fps. Also some remarkable set pieces as well, and overall more difficult because of the linear level progression.
I played Dark Souls before Demon's Souls, I had no problem transitioning. I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter which one you play first, they are not connected narrative-wise.
I played Demon Souls first. It was magical. So when I finished Dark Souls for the first time I was very much in the "Demon Souls" is way better camp.
However over time, and reading a bit more about Dark Souls I started to creep into the "nope Dark Souls is actually way, way better when you get down to it crowd". There is just way more to do and you keep finding new stuff which is amazing.
To test all this out? I just finished another play through of Demon's Souls.
My conclusion is this:
Demon Souls is way harder. A lot of this is because of the level design, camera and controls. There are a lot more enemies who jump out of nowhere and just about everything will destroy you if you get hit. The levels are longer and there are far fewer short cuts. On the other hand, the bosses are mostly trivial. As somebody who has beaten the game many times, some sections still fuck me up.
The atmosphere in Demon Souls just can't be beaten. It is also a much tighter and consistent experience as mentioned above. You will want to play NG+ straight after your first run through, and the game actually gets better when you do.
In every other way? Graphically Dark Souls shits all over Demons. You just need to compare the big demons at the start to see that. Actually having armour that matters and more weapon choice also gives Dark Souls an edge. Unfortunately this same edge makes the game really easy (relatively).
My advice? For a new player who isn't sure if they will like the games, play Dark Souls first. Demon Souls really can be brutal and unfair, and unless you really want to push through it (and you should!) learning how to play in a much easier world will help you get into it the series.
But I still like Demon Souls better. You can't beat that magic and the rewarding feeling you get when you beat it is pretty unmatched. At the end of the day though, they both stand alone as different games and you really need to play both.
The Demon's atmosphere magic first really hit me on 3-1 while on 4 grams of Psilocybin and 10mg of Ambien. Them damn bells and Rydell howling, and that singing! And the controls feel way faster and the roll feels a lot better than Dark.
Overall Demon's is my first and truest love in the Souls series. So I'd highly recommend playing it. Playing Demon's first feels like a natural progression and you'll probably not struggle in a lot of ways new players often do who didn't play it first. Red-Eyed Knights train you much better than the lame Black Knights, imo.
Dark has a lot more weight to the movement, which is a plus. Going back to DeSouls is always jarring because everything is so light and floaty. On the other hand it lacks a lot of the unique animations for each weapon/weapon type, another unfortunate legacy of rushed development.
Gwyn took me about 8 tries or so. I didn't really change up my strategy too much, I just executed it better and better and I eventually stopped trying to heal, cuz its a waste of time. You basically cant get hit more than 1 or 2 times. I went with high poise/stability, medium speed, fast stamina regen(Mask of the Child?) and a Halberd +15. Just waited for the couple openings I got to safely hit him and then otherwise just blocked and tried to stay away, being patient for those openings and making sure I didn't do anything rash that meant possibly taking a hit.
And yea, there was no ending. That kinda sucked. Takes away a bit of the satisfaction of beating the game. The final area in general was disappointing. Kiln of the First Flame looks awesome, and I was ready for a hard final trek through this final stage but it was just 5 black knights, which are pushovers at this point, then Gywn, then the end. Pretty anticlimactic.
Wish I had a PS3, cuz I'd love to play Demon Souls, especially hearing about how great the atmosphere is. I think ultimately, that was my favorite part of Dark Souls. The dark, bleak but beautiful settings and how you'd enter this cool new area not really sure what to expect other than shit is gonna kill you somewhere! If Demon Souls does that even better, then I know I'd love it. I'm not sure I'm gonna do another playthrough with Dark Souls. At least not anytime soon. The sense of discovery wont be there anymore, although playing as a caster might be completely different to my pretty much melee only playthrough I did. I dont know. I'll see how I feel after a while.
Had a great time, though. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Thanks again for all the help from people! Cant wait for Dark Souls 2.
Congrats dude. I really like reading people stories going trough the game. Weren't you still stuck on seath yesterday? Guess that was the last boss before Gwyn then.

Well done mate. Demon Souls certainly does the bleak "shit is going to kill you" thing a lot better. The whole "mind that black skeleton, what black skeleton? splat" thing really makes exploration a lot riskier.
Playing as a caster is well worth it, if only to just see how free it makes 99% of the game.
This... this game.. this game is crushing me!! But it's amazing how rewarding it is when you get to best something.
First boss in the asylum, it killed me without a chance to escape. Then I thought i was safe up on the ledge and it just crushed me into the ground.
I've hit a huge wall though, i just made it to the next area where I could level up, but there are some skeletons in what seems to be a graveyard that are giving me a very hard time. I could get to kill them, but it's not a strategy of constant winning. There's also a hidden giant skeleton that i could probably get to 3/4 health before it crushes me. Damn!!
The only downside so far for me, is the camera control. It's awful, it almost makes me want to stop playing the game. A shame, because i can see that the game is quite good otherwise.

Hmm I thought this part was linear and then it opened up. True, I didn't explore much. I guess now i know not to underestimate this game (in any aspect)

If you're down, there's nowhere to go but up *wink* *wink* *hint* *wink* *wink* HINT OVERLOAD JDSKFHLAFKJA
...
edit: the only 100% linear part is the tutorial in the asylum, and even then you can bypass much of it if you really want to. The second you get to the Firelink Shrine the game becomes open and you wouldn't believe the places you can get early on (albeit with much difficulty).
Beat the Capra Demon today after like 15 tries and then felt out where to go next for like another 45 minutes before heading to the depths. This game is seriously fucking creepy.
Knight Artorias = No Red Tearstone because taking fall damage is tedious, and damage from tree's is hit and miss, and I won't have the Symbol of Avarice until Duke's. Although I did try to get Art to activate it, but it didn't happen. So in the end no Red Tearstone, no healing, no shielding. Just dodges and timing. Fun and frustrating at the same time!
Note: You can get pretty ridiculous crits on Artorias if you catch him while he's rolling away, and if you catch him with a R2 while he's in the air. Also note how at the start of the fight I got him off balance where his attack tracking was off, little trick I learned for the early fight.

Nice, ive been trying to do it with red tearstone/club +15/naked and it is such a pain in the ass. I use the two tree people and then the fall damage to get to it easily enough but after raging enough times at artorias, i've been killed trying to activate it. It doesn't help that even with red tearstone I can't do enough damage with the club +15 to cancel his charge animation. I have to play it very safe.
I just can't seem to get a perfect fight. I feel like I'm timing the rolls perfectly and I somehow fuck up somewhere. His huge jumping attack has a massive hitbox. I've come so close so many times.
I'm not sure what you did at the beginning where you say you got his attack balance off?

I know that feel man, believe me. My most hated attack/s is when he hits you with a slime throw (which I swear I dodged right) and it knocks you down...he follows up with a leaping attack right as you get up unable to do anything, which stunlocks then waits and does it again until you're dead. That shit pisses me off and he's done it to me a lot of times. That's why in this fight I didn't stay close enough to him for the slime throw which would have activated Red Tearstone. Wasn't worth starting over in rage mode...
Notice how he swings a few times in the wrong direction and his back is to me sometimes, he usually doesn't do that. He's usually pretty surgical with his swings. I noticed that if you go for a R2 and sort of sidestep into his direction (making him miss without dodging or backing off essentially) his tracking goes off for a swing or two. That's what happened there. But it seems to be luck-based sometimes so I wouldn't try it late fight or anything, but I'm pretty sure he's programmed to home in on rolls and occasionally sidestepping a attack can throw his tracking off a bit. Maybe not new news, but something I found out myself anyway.

Omg fuck that slime throw. So many red tearstone runs ruined because of that. I've found the key is to back up for a second and THEN roll backwards if you know he's going to do the slime attack. With just a roll, you get hit by the slime. He switches up his attacks a lot, sometimes he'll do a very fast stab or slash after the slime throw or massive lunge. I'm too much of a wuss to attack unless he does his lunging stab or jumping attack.
I'm going to just have to do it without red tearstone or do the first part with red tearstone and then heal when he's charging up his hyper mode for the first time. It's too rage inducing to have red tearstone the whole time. I felt like my heart was going to explode
