Darkest Dungeon | “The Road” of dungeon crawlers, on Kickstarter, GAFfer-made

Yes, because having an incentive for some people to fund more is exactly the same as overpriced DLC for a finished product.

Providing exclusive in-game advantages or to those who pre-order is a very big-publisher thing to do, yes.

@epmode : you don't know how to forgive someone who said he was sorry, do you ? They aplogized a lot of time even in an article on Gamasutra. Also, they did not made a "change" like you suggested probably because they didn't wanted to offend the backers who backed for that reward (you didn't read the comments of they kickstarter, did you ?).

So all they could do is to apologize to people.

I did read the comments. I don't agree with their conclusion but they seem honest about it so I'll just leave it at that.

Congratulations on being funded, by the way!

Perhaps not the brightest idea to necrobump this thread, but I've just found this awesome PAX gameplay video on Reddit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCNMdv_9Gro .
It seems that the game is almost complete. It supposed to be in Early Access on Steam in October, I think.
The visuals, the atmosphere, the actual gameplay - everything looks very much awesome, and I'm pretty hyped for this (and I didn't even backed this on KS!).

It's not really a bad idea per se, Darkest Dungeon had several updates meanwhile and the gameplay video is really good looking.

And sorry for not keeping the thread updated, perhaps someone else can do it because I can't.

Thanks for that video, didnt realize they had a 2nd one.

I just caught up on this other one showing off the Ruins.

Both videos seem really cool.

One of my most wanted games for 2015. Absolutely beautiful. Really happy that this was announced for PS4 this weekend. Happy it got kickstarted despite me missing out on that.

Is this coming to Vita or just PS4/PC/Mac? edit: ^found my answer there :)

Loving the art style. I will definitely check this out on Vita (hoping for cross-buy though).

Wow, my answer is even in the update itself:

Early Access Backers (Wanderer Tier+) will Get Steam Keys Friday Jan 30th

I'm a dorkmeister.

Having high expectations for this one, really hope it delivers.

On a side note, this actually is the first K.S project I've backed that'll release on schedule: well done guys!

My healer killed herself when she had high stress, lol.
Because she didn't wanted to die by the hand of the ennemy.

You get later (third dungeon I think) a pack of lumber that you need to make a campfire to rest. Before that you can't rest.

You can only rest in mid and long quests the devs said.

Okay, so now that I'm in the groove, I culled my entire line-up except for a few staples. I have more slots in the Caravan and Abbey, so my new kids will be well taken care of.

So coming back from work (night shift), super pumped and excited after having to wait 7 hours to play the game: I put my headset on, launch the game and...woah!

Graphic style is fantastic, so is the naration (you thought Bastion was something? Try this!)
After an hour and a half in, my first impressions are extremely positive. The game seems to be deep in its mechanics, unlocks are plenty and it sure delivers on the advertised "mental health management" (to say the least).
Oh, and it's hard! I died in the tutorial :^)
Talking about tutorial, that may be the only (light) critic I have so far: a tad lacking in some areas, nothing too bad, still.

And this is fucking:

1) Their first game.

2) Early Access.

I know, right? Impressive!
Original in both mechanics and presentation, very polished: wow! And, like I said earlyer: this is the fist K. project Ive backed that was actualy delivered on schedule.
Gaf, you better believe!

Lots of little things piss me off but overall an enjoyable experience. This isn't something where you mow down 100 enemies and each fight is more meaningful...but I swear nothing is more angering than when my attacks miss...!

I'm super impressed with what little I've played so far which is basically in to the Ruins twice (abandoned half way through to heal) and unlocking most of the buildings. I've got a decent crew set up, so hopefully I don't run in to too much trouble. I also had trouble finding the "rest" functionality, only to google it to find out that it's unlocked later. Which is fine. Some musings:

1. Every fight is filled with meaningful choices. Positioning is super important and really felt every miss and blow. I actually cheered for when I made critical hits and cringed when they happened to me.

2. I kind of fucked myself out of a decent amount of gold the first time I went in to the Ruins as I loaded up on items (food, keys, shovels, etc). I abandoned the dungeon half way through, then went back in only to find that your inventory is reset back to nothing. I felt a little jilted by this, but nonetheless lesson learned.

3. 'Dat narrator. Holy shit. Well done voice acting. How is he still narrating if he blew his brains out in the intro movie? Ah well.

4. The art style is fucking awesome.

so much more excited about this now having seen a bit of it

I thought it sounded interesting but was kind of expecting it to be one of those things that sounds nice in concept but ultimately ends up being disappointing in execution and I never end up playing it

Hm, was excited to try it tonight, but I can't even get the game to launch. I get the preparing to launch message from steam, then it just closes and nothing happens.

This game is awesome. It's very challenging, (maybe a tad too hard so early?) but there is a lot of strategy to the combat and party/positioning/abilities. I finally finished one of the first quests with only one party member still alive and down to like 2 hp. It felt like I just conquered an army and it was only a god damn novice mission. I hope people give this a try next week when it hits early access.

Oh and the narration is god tier. Every spoken line puts a huge god damn smile on my face.

This game looks absolutely brilliant, I need to get my hands on it! I didn't hear about it until after the kickstarter which was a huge bummer. I'm really jealous of you guys playing it right now!

yo this game is a real motherfucker. love the setting, the tone, and the atmosphere. not sure about how slow the combat feels or how difficult it is though.

Yeah, they need to balance a bit the game.
For beginners who don't know the genre is like banging their hear against a wall.
I think they could at least put some consumable items in the low dunjeons to help beginners to pass that difficulty wall.

For me is that those ennemies do too much AoE, they shouldn't be able to spam 5 AoE attacks in one battle, lol XD

Also the the price should be cut in half for letting your companions rest because of it I ran out of money :(

And then they cry later. No, the difficulty is fine. Learning by failing. This makes victory or even small moments of luck so muchore satisfying.

I know it's early yet - but GOTY contender - brilliant in every way (and yes challenging, but it's a rogue-like and that's what they're supposed to be)
