DATING-AGE: Best way to get over a girl?

I know this is a popular topic, but searching "how to get over a girl" didn't really come up with favorable results.

I moved to a different city, so I had to break up w/ my girlfriend of ~3 years, its been 4 months now and I keep comparing all my other dates to her and can't seem to be happy. What is the best way to get over a girl?

Keep busy, try your best not to dwell on it and get on with other things. Join a gym maybe (if you haven't already)

The answer is posted in a mixture of the above posts.
When I split up with my last chick I wenr on sex bender. My buddy and I would go out looking for girls, all the time. Just do that. Eventually, you'll meet a nice one.
Why can't you go and see her?

Dude. I live in London. My girlfriend lives in Seattle. We're getting married at the end of this month. It's really hard (fucking awful actually) but if you want it there's a way! :)

Find ways to fill your life now that she's left you. Why not redecorate? Turn one of your spare rooms into a little shrine to your relationship, covering the wall with photographs of her. If you don't have enough photographs, get yourself a telephoto lens and follow her around at a distance, taking shots. Extreme closeups of innocuous body parts score bonus marks.

Practise communication skills. You're so used to talking to her that now you need to put in some practice in not talking to her. Phone her up on a regular basis and don't say anything. Make sure she can hear you breathing so that she knows it's not just a wrong number, though. It would be considered rude to do this during office hours, so make sure you only do it at night. If you're worried about the awkward possibility of someone else picking up the phone (do you speak to them or not?) then you can hide at the bottom of her garden and check through the window that she's alone - the zoom on your camera is great for that, plus you can get some great pictures for the shrine from that angle.

Whatever you do, don't just sit around brooding. It's not healthy.

Keep busy, don't talk to her and eventually it will bet better. There is no quick fix.

Swingers is dead on with the whole breakup cycle. Another reason that friggin movie is so brilliant.

Seriously though, it's a shitty deal. I won't lie, there's probably some serious pain and sleepless nights heading your way, but spend as much time as you can with family and friends, remind yourself of all those other people out there that still love you, and when the time comes (and it may be awhile or not long at all) open yourself up again for another inevitable heartbreak. :D

Focus on yourself for a while -- throw yourself into your job, work out a lot, go out on the town with "the boys."

Also, realize that you'll be in "rebound territory" for a long while -- maybe even a year, depending on how close you were to this girl. Keep it light when you do go out with girls...do NOT get serious too soon.

Push her out of your mind every time she starts coming up and start focusing on the other women you date for WHO THEY ARE as opposed to how they stack up to her.

Stop making topics about her, pretend you don't care even if you do, find some other passion to live your days for, and basically live for your own personal achievment. Not someone else's life. And if you're looking for girls, just look at something you admire about them, not what expectation they don't meet. And don't worry if lots of girls don't interest you. I find only a few that really interest me. I mean, a good portion look hot but i only a few stay on my mind. Usually due to their personality

Casual dating with other girls. (casual sex is a definite plus).
Have fun and play lots of games, see lots of movies with good friends and hang out. Focus on your daily life.
Pretend that you are just fine without her, and eventually, you will be really fine without her.

There's no magic trick to it. It just takes time to get over a girl. To make that time go by easier, I always try to keep my mind on other things. Hang out with the friends you likely neglected when you were with her. Play some videogames like a long RPG, something that'll take some mental CPU cycles away from thinking about her; something that'll keep you occupied in your free time. Read a book that couldn't possibly make you upset in any way; one that doesn't invoke strong emotions like Harry Potter.

Also remember that there's no rule that says you need to start dating immediately after the break up. Sometimes you just want a quick replacement but you have to let that feeling pass because really, nothings going to replace her. There are plenty of other girls out there. They don't have an LED timer that'll make them blow up in 6 months or so if you don't ask them out.
