1.Thomas Tull, the head of Legendary, got tired of all the discussion and decided chingate, let's do it. So he went to Goyer and Goyer had an idea that actually takes the movies back to the John Byrne incarnation. Modern. Believable. FUN! So Tull got Goyer hired.
2.The film will not be called Superman and will be called THE MAN OF STEEL.
3.Brandon Routh will not star in the film.
4.Nic Cage will NOT star in the fllm.
5.Bryan Singer is not expected to direct.
Conoces como Mark Millar walks around acting like he was going to write it? El Taco discovered that this was always BULLSHIT. Paul Levitz hated the guy and he was never even discussed to write it. He made all that "almost" stuff up.

I can tell you that Goyer's story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology.

Bring it on!!

Edit:

So who you guys want for Brainiac?
No Routh sucks, but it makes sense if you want to differentiate S Returns from TMOS

THANK YOU.

A Supes movie that doesn't try and minimize the heavy Sci-Fi parts of the story.

No more real estate schemes please.

Please do this for green lantern too.

I thought Brandon Routh was pretty good as Superman. Regardless, this new one sounds interesting.

I actually really liked that entire cast.. it was just the story that I had issues with. I wouldn't mind the whole group of them coming back.

Routh was actually probably the only GOOD thing about that superman film. and perhaps the aeroplane scene.

Hell yea to it not being an origin re-telling. Superman has to have one of the most recognizable origin stories ever.

I'm just hoping Superman fights a giant mechanical spider in the third act.
:lol An Evening with Kevin Smith.

If they're not gonna use Routh again, who was a great Superman/Clark IMO, they should go for Jon Hamm. Do it WB.

Hopefully goyer gets some Nolan tips during their Batman 3 writing sessions. Godfather rumor RENEWED!!!

This is probably where it came from.

If it's called Man of Steel I hope they use an actual man this time. Not some kid who got picked up off the street.

Jon Peters is an absolute fucking idiot, yet I can totally sympathize with him about the need for a huge mechanical spider in the climax of every film. I'm aware that it's crazy, sure, but that's part of the charm.

I really hope I'm wrong. I loved the Superman movies and character when I was a kid. But...it just seems like the character himself is much too invincible. There has to be more of a decent threat to create more tension and more often it was the public that was threatened more than Supes. That mixed with hokey 'turning back time' and 'killing Supes only to divided him and then merge him again'...again, I REALLY hope for the best.

Why Braniac? It doesn't seem action packed enough.

If you're going Byrne style, bring in Bizarro (or multiple ones since they're clones) and have Superman 2 like fights.

The love for Routh is BAFFLING.

He was an empty husk, an empty shell and is every bit as vacuous in his other roles. Routh lacked even a tiny spark of charisma. He was just a pretty boy that the previous director had a boner for.

Cool, it's like they made a list of 5 reasons not to see the film. Except for the title of course, but it's just a title. Actually the Batman/Superman title comparisons are pretty amusing:

Batman Begins
The Dark Knight

Superman Returns
The Man of Steel

I would agree, but at the same time the script didn't give him a lot to work with. The costume made him look look weaker as well.

I did however second-guess an age comparison between him and Tom Welling (thinking that TW would be older). :lol

I'm surprised at all the Routh love in this thread, I didn't really like him at all.

I think it was more the writing than anything else, though; he looked the part well enough, but IMO he was the #3 character at best in the movie; basically a supporting actor. He almost seemed like a macguffin to move forward a story about Lex and Lois. He barely ever said anything.

Kind of like how Vaan is the "main character" in FFXII, but it's pretty obvious that the story is not about him and that he could probably have been cut completely with only a few changes (though Supes was more important in the movie than Vaan was to the game).

I guess he COULD have been good, but I don't really know and think it's impossible to tell from what little he was given to do in the movie.

::edit::
Figures it would be all love before my post, but in the time I took to write it the Routh Hate Club came out and beat me to it. :lol

I liked Routh, but since he won't be returning, my second pick is Eli Roth. SUPER BEAR JEW!

For what he was asked to do, emulate Reeve's Superman, he did a great job. Who knows if he could have pulled off his own interpretation. Too bad he wasn't asked to. It's not Routh's fault Singer is a one hit wonder.

Pretty much. I hate Singer.

Brandon Routh was good as Superman...

They better cast an unknown as Superman instead of getting some name actor. Supes needs to be cast correctly, and I can't think of anyone.

They'll probably take that guy from Twilight just to sell the movie to teen girls ... ugh.

To be honest. I don't think Warner Brothers is looking to sell Superman to teenage girls ( they already have Smallville for that ). And the involvement of Nolan bears testimony to this.

Please just give me a super politically powerful genius billionaire Lex Luthor and not some slap stick con man like the other films. As much as I enjoy the Donner flicks, that character is a terrible foil for Superman.

I want this guy.

And I can't think of who should play Supes off the top of my head. Wasn't a fan of Routh.

I'd be willing to give Routh another chance as Superman. Ironically, his turn as superspy Shaw on Chuck this season almost seems like an attempt to prove he could play Supes effectively. He's certainly capable of injecting more charisma into the Shaw role than the Superman Returns script seemed to afford him.

But he's probably damaged goods as far as the franchise goes, so oh well.

I want an OLD Lex. And old angry Luthor with nothing to live for. With the world as his stage to enact his final performance of life.
