David Goyer hired to write 'THE MAN OF STEEL'. Not a reboot. No Routh.

Mark Miller to make a bet on this dude again?

I hope Kevin Spacey is back as Lex Luthor. I thought he did a good job in Returns, considering what he had to work with.

Indeed. And a Braniac movie is a great idea. Long overdue.
"Brainiac" was in Superman III

as was "Bizarro" :P

Please just give me a super politically powerful genius billionaire Lex Luthor and not some slap stick con man like the other films. As much as I enjoy the Donner flicks, that character is a terrible foil for Superman.
Funny enough one of the reasons the comics made Luthor a powerful businessman was because of Superman I.

Anyways

COME ON WB MAKE ROUTH/BALE WORLD'S FINEST

That's who I wanted before they announced Superman Returns

If not Routh, I vote yes for SuperJesus

I love all the people in this thread bemoaning the loss of Routh.

I liked him in Superman Returns, thought he did a pretty good job. But he didn't turn in an Oscar caliber performance that can't be replaced.

Very interesting that they're focusing heavily on the sci-fi aspects (which is great), considering that really hampers the odds of having a Batman/Superman crossover movie in the same universe now.

lex can get the fuck out. if it's not done by Terry O'Quinn. I despised Spacey's Lex. Cartoony shit.

Actually, was good. But I just don't want him back :(

No Routh? Are you fucking kidding me? Being a big fan of Superman, my interest has hit rock bottom because of this. Routh has consistently expressed his wish to continue to play the role and if anything he was fantastic playing it.

Disgusting.

Not a reboot, so a sequel?

I assume by "no reboot" they just mean not a retelling of the origin. I don't expect Superman and Lois to have a kid and all in the new movie.

The Richard Pryor as a bad guy Bizarro/Braniac movie counts as a legitimate sequel now?

If that's the case, I want a reboot.

Movie studio trying to make a wild successful franchise? Oh that WB...

Im laughing because this shit doesnt work. It wont work when every studio tries to make their Avatar in the next 2 years also. Hollywood never ceases to amaze me with how reactionary they are.

Yeah Superjerk was fun but the old lady scientist robot didn't work at all.

If there's anything Singer got right he ignored the goofiness from Superman III/IV
(Returns is assumed as a continuation of II)

Yep, kind of sad he won't be in it. Honestly he was just a Reeve's type guy, he just did the part very very well, IMO. I never understood the hate for him. I understnad the hate for the story in Returns and what not, but not him as a character.

Lol superman didn't throw ONE punch in the Superman Returns. What were they thinking?

He was a wimp. Macho airhead manly superman FTW.

Nah.
Get J.J Abrams on board.

Abrams had his shot. People laughed at his movie, ego's were hurt. It's time to move on.

He tried to relive the Donner saga and it just didn't work.

Routh did an ok job... an ok job of apeing Christopher Reeve's performance.

I also really liked the look of the Daily Planet and the farm and most of the costumes (not the Superman suit). There was a nice vintage feel to it all that works well with a Superman movie IMO. But then Lois's house and the Kryptoisland, etc didn't seem to match at all.

Yeesh I hated Returns.

I really hope they don't take all the character out of Metropolis and make it a generic city like in the Nolan Batman movies.

Oops

I agree about Singer's version. In fact, I would have loved Singer's version if not for Superman's biggest enemies being:

- a runaway jetliner
- an island loaded with Kryptonite that couldn't kill him, but also couldn't put up much of a fight,
- the evil threat of back child support

The new film really should have the same feel and mood but more action. I think Abrams version of it would be too grounded in reality when Supes really needs to be supersized along with his villians.

Definitely, I think the aspects that they did borrow from Donner's version worked but all the new touches and revisions with SFX (like the fortress, yeah) didn't work so well.

The city matches Metropolis's original concept perfectly; a sort of futuristic city from the design viewpoints of the 1930s. That adherence was the same in Burton's Batman, both BatmanTAS/SupermanTAS and in Begins as well (the Narrows).

This hopefully will be good. I personally love the Superman character always have. If you don't enjoy the comic and are not excited when Zod or even Mr. Myxlplyx make an appearance Superman has a pretty poor rogues gallery. Really it's very sci fi, and would take forever to explain Darkseid or Doomsday properly and give the fans justice and not weird out the crowd.

Also it would need an Avatar budget to please everyone, Punches that crack concrete and shatter all the windows on the block, busses as baseball bats :lol , tossing cars like softballs that is what people want.

You know you want it.

I actually woul not mind him as Spider Man. I am not a fan of his either.

I want an OLD Lex. And old angry Luthor with nothing to live for. With the world as his stage to enact his final performance of life.

Terry O'Quinn can deliver:
Terry-OQuinn-Promo--Art-Streiber-704421.jpg

HOLY. SHIT! STROKE OF GENIUS SIR!!! GENIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIUS!!!! SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR!!!!

My ultimate trilogy would be:

Superman 1: Superman fightd lex luthor who is doing a secret research, superman marries lois, has a son. Superman fights lex and wins, but lex unleashes kryptoniteman.
Superman 2: Superman trains his son who is now 18 yrs. old and has same powers, but is immune to kryptonite. In the end, his son wins kryptoniteman.
Superman 3: His son goes avril with rising power. Superman versus his powerful son, but in the end superman wins and has to kill him, because his powers grow with violence.

/dreaming

Routh out? awwww, no :(

Nope. But I love his work on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Judging by Flash Forward, I'd say the Nolans had more to do with the Batman movies being good than Goyer.

How is this not a reboot when it will have nothing to do with Superman Returns, just like the Incredible Hulk that completely ignored the first Hulk film?
Anyway, good news. I'm a fan of the Byrne Superman, and that guarantees we will FINALLY have corporate Lex in the theaters, no more land schemes and no more superkid. :D

So ain't it cool news is saying David Goyer hired to write the new Superman movie is not set in stone: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44074

Hey folks, Harry here... So just a while ago I just got off the phone with Thomas Tull at Legendary Pictures who told me that the story that appeared over on LATINO REVIEW just frankly isn't true. Tull has not unilaterally hired Goyer to come in and write the new SUPERMAN. He loves Goyer, but frankly - the project isn't at the Script stage yet. Seems Nolan is still hatching some ideas. But he just wanted me to pass on that they have the highest enthusiasm for this project, but the story on Latino just isn't accurate. I'll see what more I can find out, but as of right now, there really isn't anything else to tell.
