DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

BattlEye is the cuntiest of cunty things in the whole world.

I have it installed in /steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/Expansion/BattlEye (805kb)

and in /common/arma 2/BattlEye (804kb)

In each folder it's the Client and Server .dll's, and three files to do with un-installation

If I right click on OA in Steam and click 'Reinstall OA', or I do the same but click on play OA first and then select it in the dialogue box, I get a brief box pop up saying 'launching OA', but then it disappears and nothing happens (no BattlEeye installation box, and the game doesn't launch).

I can join non-BattlEye servers, and when I join servers with it, I get a little prompt at the bottom left saying 'BattlEye initialised', and then it kicks me.

What do I have to do. I'll buy a fucking Dominos for whoever sorts this shit out for me.

I bought the Steam version of Combined Operations, and I think I even accidentally cancelled Battleye installation on one of the ARMA titles when I launched it. Don't use the reinstall options on Steam, I don't think they work.

You should just be able to run ARMA II, quit it, run OA, quit it, and run the Battleye installer from the bistudios forum. Didn't have problems with it. No need to manually copy files or DLLs. I think it's been linked in the thread but maybe we can google it up for you if you haven't tried that installer.

I committed my first muder this morning. I was stalking a person in the woods yesterday, but I was too cautious out of fear that he would see me. He managed to slip away. Today I was determined not to miss an opportunity should one present itself. Limping and shaky from blood loss after an encounter with a horde that didn't go well, I went through a wooded area and came across a man alone in a field fighting off a medium sized horde. He was bleeding from the head so my initial thought was to let the zombies finish him off and scavenge his remains. But he had a rifle of some kind and was picking them off at a decent rate, so I decided to help the zombies out. He took a knee to steady his aim, and I had my chance. I lined up the shot, but my scope was shaking badly from the blood loss and I missed. I cursed and quickly realized my rifle was zeroed in for a much longer shot than this one. I dialed it down to 200 and lined up again. I steadied my aim as much as possible and this time put one in his chest. He fell, and the zombies began their feast. Oddly after they were done they all disappeared. I think that was a bug. Anyway I crept forward to claim my prize. The rifle he had was an enfield, so no wonder he was attracting so many. Shortly after I made my way to Cherno in search of medical supplies where I met my own demise and the hands of another player. That's how it goes!

Bandits are cunts, got killed by a guy who must've been waiting on the same set of stairs for ages, pile of zombies at the bottom of the stairs and some other dead survivors. I shot him he shot me, he alt-f4'd before he died, i did die.

Is it true that the US steam store is selling combined ops for $29.99? It's £24.99 on the UK store so would someone from the US be willing to help me out? I can pay with paypal :)

Eventually the game will become a race to alt-f4 in all PVP events. =P

Tried it all, not working. I think I'm going to just uninstall and reinstall them both while I'm making and eating dinner. Question: it shouldn't matter that I'm running the games of an external HDD rather than the C drive should it?

EDIT: It might even be something to do with the connection I'm using - VPN because when I use my normal uni internet connection, no servers come up. Won't be home for ages to try it there though.

Planning to pick this up, but I'm looking to save a fiver lol. Any Americans willing to gift me the game and expansion and I'll pay you £20 to cover it?

Well, this is frustrating. Only been able to play once. Now every time I join a server it gets stuck on "Receiving Data".

edit: Finally got into a game, but timed out after 5 minutes.

The VPN thing is unusual, copying Battleye DLLs manually is unusual, and using an external HDD is unusual. Any of those might be a difference from the normal setup.

Noooo I got to Cherno and raided a small supermarket, even found a tent! Then I pitched it, went to go back and got spotted, so legged it for the supermarket once more. I pulled out my Lee Enfield, and 31 dead zombies later they finished me off.
I tried so hard to stay alive but they kept on coming, even managed to throw a couple of flares. :[

If you fire an Enfield inside any town, you're going to have a bad time.

I can only hope Conceptor and his people aren't planning on murdering the other group. =(

That's what makes it beautiful, man. Would you trust all-gaf? Hmm...

I definitely don't trust the other GAF group.

I don't trust them either. Yet, at least.
Despite the fact that Fromthefuture traveled with your group for quite some time and that we'd been actively broadcasting that we were friendly?
You guys better not come back to Cherno now if you know what's good for ya !!

Nah just kidding though, we were long gone from that Church and we split mumble channels because it was hard for us to co-ordinate a meet-up over all the voices.

Enfield is the worst. It's the loudest gun so it attracts every zombie ever to your location.

Do you believe his story? Do you? I wouldn't...or would I?

do flares attract/distract zombies like how pipegrenades do in l4d?
They will attract them towards the area (at night at least) but they don't seem to crowd around them like L4D. If you're being chased the only thing I know of that will get them off you besides killing them is smoke grenades.

edit: The real problem though is the 5 second throwing animation. You basically have to get hit if you want to throw anything while being chased.

OMG I feel so dirty yet so good, I just killed my first bandit! There I was sneaking around Elektro when *Bang* and then another, I saw him and unloaded my clip into his head and just as he died I bled out. Grrrrr!

I began my journey attempting to find TheNix. Darkness ruled. Through trees I made my way. Stumbled across a farm. Paused as I saw the walkers. The hoppers. Deep breathes. One zombie, one shot. Wails piercing before being silenced. Food, drink! An abandoned sniper rifle, slung over shoulder. Back to the woods I retreated. Found the regions power station. The powerlines would serve as my highway. Movement! My scope betrays nothing. Naked eye says likewise. I venture towards the movement. I jump! A bunny approaches. Safe for today, both wedge and bunny. Running along the tree line parallel to the power lines is empowering. Liberating. To the outskirts of Prigo. Walkers stumble over fields. Hoppers haunt bushes. I evade them, to a bridge that has no business existing. I find rail tracks. Nix had said to meet him along the tracks. Running once more. Nix sees me. I, blind. We dispatch two walkers. They guard the body of a fallen survivor. Illuminated by the moon on outstretched road. We relieve him of supplies. Another gaffer joins us. We watch from the shadows as a bandit, possibly the murderer of the road fallen survivor, runs along the coastal hills. We set out for Cherno. To more GAFFERS.

05072012journey1b.png

Along the tracks once more. Crawling through fields. Watching the shambling dead by moonlight. So dark, we must regroup every 100 or so meters. Nix, only able to see my arms. Dispatching walkers, that we may cross to the tree line. Through the woods we run. A BEAST APPEARS. A boar. Perhaps thankful that he shan't be torn apart by the walking dead. And we, that no wails have descended upon us. On the outskirts of farms, we wonder if we've overshot Cherno. Then the skies clear, and the city of death reveals itself. We enter, to rescue a gaffer and resupply.

05072012journey1c.png

Nix and I follow our gaffer friend. He, knowledgeable of homes and places to supply. We search the streets, hoping to save Doc. He, holed up in an apartment building adjacent the hospital. Appropriate. We take to their ends three walkers that separated our group from doc. Supplies! A wealth of bandages, blood transfusions. Suddenly there are five of us. In the dark we cannot establish who among us is who. The stranger dances. Easy way to earn our trust, apparently. He follows as we make our way deeper into the city. Nix lights the night with flares. We dispatch the shambling dead. Pausing outside an enormous building, we contemplate the fate of the stranger. We know who is who by now. Death to this stranger, for fear he shall turn on us? A voice! A gaffer! A gaffer perilously close to an end! Confident now, we clear apartment blocks. Actual gear! Nix loses his backpack. We hear word from a gaffer, on the run for an hour. Pursued by runners. We dig in by the town square. The gaffer who first joined Nix and I climbs to a perch, protecting us from above. We light flares. Clear the immediate area of walkers and crawlers. Ready to make our group six, to free him of zombies. Dug in, I turn. Blizzard flees past. Eight to ten zombies in tow. I yell. They are upon us. In the confusion, the first addition to our group falls from his perch. Dead. Blizzard is lost, dying. We cannot reach him in time. All the walkers now settled in their graves, we attempt to regroup. Shots ring out. We, lit by flares. Vulnerable. I am shot, again and again. The report of gunshots is low. No rifle nor pistol. Stumbling towards an apartment block, away from the light. Death welcomes me.

05072012journey2-1.png

Alone. The ocean seems safe. The islands just off shore not as inviting. Shamblers, lit by the moon. An island all their own. To the hills. Over dirt paths, through thickets. I run. Kilometers I must journey. I hear rumors of a safe haven in Cherno. Supplies and gatherings. Farms I avoid. The trees I cling to. My private highway found once more. Running. The farms of Cherno lay ahead of me. The tree line keeps me safe. Silently past shamblers. The dark alters my path. But the main road of Cherno I've found! I crawl through the streets. A pistol all that stands between me and the dead. Two blocks from A gathering of gaffers! Flares show me the way. SHRIEKS ring out. Two walkers and a hopper. Fuck it, I'm running. Alerted, gaffers stand ready. I run through their lines and the dead meet their end. We resupply. Nix hands me an heirloom. A scoped rifle. More gaffers stream in. A large gathering. I volunteer to lead us out. To the north we shall head! We crawl the streets. Out of town, we are led by chem light. Across fields. We hear shots from Cherno. A bandit, a destroyer of fellow living beings. Pursued by the dead, angered. My rifle, leveled. His life, ended. North we head, on to survival.

My experience of the game so far: it crashing and now staring at a black screen as I try to join a server with other GAFers.

Beautiful PC gaming.
Yeah I understand the frustration since I've been staring at "Waiting for server response" for a long time too, but the situation is sorta unavoidable: alpha version of a mod with a handful of servers upped for testing, swarmed by tons of people...

So, are the servers working fine or are they being overloaded atm? I'm really tempted to buy Arma 2 just for this mod.

That doesn't sound too encouraging. :/

Are there servers in Europe as well, or is it only NA?

Lonestar

I joined for Erin Brockovich discussion
One thing that is cool, is how good the "breath" sound is, when running around. During some of the video's I've seen, I keep getting fooled into thinking the players are out of breath :lol

Trying to meet up with a gaf group is hell without a map. I circled to the coast twice and to Pavlova trice. I logged off with a zomby train behind me in Zelenogorsk.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Ready to load this up for the first time, if I join a server where it's night time, I'm going to play this through my mic. Was laughing at the thought all night at work, imagining following some guy on his own shitting his pants. Chh chh chh ahh ahh ahh.

I was tempted to buy, but I had a feeling since this game relies on a central hub that it would experience problems. It's just going to get worse the more popular this gets. Hopefully people are donating to the creator for upgrades.

I'm keeping a general fear of everyone about me when I play. Did you hear us do a headcount outside the TEC building? I'm pretty sure the guy who joined our group had said he did, but paranoia kept us wondering who the "mysterious" 5th was.

I think once we meet up with the other group, it'll be fine, but generally anyone I haven't had sit behind me and not shoot me is someone I don't trust yet.

Right now playing is an odyssey. Literally. Buying the game specifically for this is premature, in the actual state, and can end in frustration.

Was it you that shot that stranger and said "oooh, Popped you in the side of the head!"?

Yeah haha. I got encouraged by Foli and Orgun and I normally like playing Bandit haha. The only guys I havn't killed so far are people from Gaf.

Are you using xSplit? If so, what's your specs and setup? It got pretty choppy for me.

Livestream Procaster. Seems to work fine for me but not sure of the quality.

I died quite suddenly, I wasn't bleeding. Got hit by a single zombie and BOOM I am on the ground. Got eaten alive. :| Can anyone explain the mechanics around getting hit by 1 zombie = me on the floor? my screen was jittery before and I took painkillers to negate the effect. I take thats all they did and didn't give me extra health?

To be fair I was fighting a shit load of zombies 1 on 1. I took down 42 in the whole life.

Discovered food is extremely scarce in this game. Came across 4 Enfields, 3 CZ550, 3 Winchesters, 1 bow, 1 M1911 < these are the ones I can remember!
Compared to:
1 Can of baked beans, 1 can of Sardines.

Also when I spawn I am completely lost. I have not come across a single map yet in game. Is there a method of generally knowing where I am? I have no idea if I been walking in a big circle unless its night then I can kind of use the moon...

I think the zombies have a low percentage chance of one hitting you, not sure though.

I believe that when hit from behind by a Zombie you get knocked out or put on the ground, an hourglass I believe should pop up during that time showing how long youll be down. At that point you are easy pickings for a swarm of zombies.
