What is considered the best gun in the game? The silenced MP5 seems pretty handy for obvious reasons.
Oh shit there's a silenced pistol as well?!There are a fair number of guns included in DayZ, some of them below (screenshot from the DayZ forum user).
edit: ACTUALLY i'll make the image a link just in case people don't want to see the guns etc.

My personal favourites are the Winchester, M1911 and the Silenced pistol.

Guys, please keep playing the game! When i'll have some vacation on July i'd love to have a blast with you online.
Keep this thread alive!!!
The one where he's a hostage is great too, I was laughing so hard when the hostage exchange was going down.
Noob Helicopter pilot loses control and sets Elecktro on fire
We eventually made our way there. Some guy saw us and buggered out. We saw the bodies y'all left behind.
I like how anyone streaming basically is putting a giant target on their chest. Kill all streamers! Who's with me?

Uh oh.
Ultimately, every time someone walks with someone for 10 minutes then murders them with no explanation (if they needed food they could have asked, for instance), that's one more player who will be likely to just shoot or avoid humans the next time. In the end I'm still kind of predicting things will sometimes devolve into deathmatch where a bunch of players are competing to press Alt-F4 in time to kill the other players but avoid their own death. Or maybe Rocket will change something so that just logging out won't save you from zombies or attacking humans.I think that publicity like this will mean an influx of people who don't necessarily want to play in the spirit of the game. This mod is really helped by Arma players that want to roleplay and it sets the tone of the game. Having a a lot of hoodlums flooding the game won't help anyone.
I think the game has already changed. It seems that more people just want to pull the trigger instead of engaging in a social activity.

I might need some guinea pigs tonight to help with testing my stream while I try to get the audio fixed.
The viewing audience missed discussion of the tone and perfection of docbon's lower body, dude who muff dived on a menstruating zombie and a few of us not knowing people using global chat were in our party.
Thanks! Hopefully that helps people with some of their initial questions.
It's already hit Kotaku today. That can't be good.CHEEZMO;37705185 said:Mainstream exposure is the last thing this needs. I just hope the uberjank drives away all the teenagers looking for some zombie shooter.

I really doubt you'll get people who just like COD (I play COD, so not shitting on the game) buying two ARMA games, modding it, putting up with alpha shit, etc etc.
You need to be a certain person to want to play this.

Holy shit the hostage video. So fucking funny.
When he gets. I got told off at work for laughing so muchset on fire and the over hostage runs over to him
That's probably a good thing. If the mechanics of the game don't support the tone and style of play that it's supposed to have, and the only way that it "works" is contingent on players essentially wanting to play make-believe on top of the actual game they're already playing, then the mechanics need work, full stop.
I mean the mod absolutely nails some of the core elements of what they're going for, but as it stands, "Survival" is pretty trivially easy if your main goals are just to stay alive for as long as possible. Most of the time, the only reason to really engage in combat is because you've gotten bored with walking alone in the woods and you decide to do something kinda stupid just to liven things up a little - in other words, you start fighting either zombies or players. And if that's the choice you've got, then zombies are a poor choice, because in addition to being less interesting as opponents, they just flat out don't carry useful enough items to sustain your hunting spree. Going after players just makes sense, from a mechanical perspective.
This isn't really a knock on the mod, exactly - it's obviously in really heavy development and is nowhere near "complete" - but if they don't want the game to become a straight deathmatch with zombies in the background sometimes, they need to start adding mechanics that incentivize social behaviour.
I have played the mod and I pointed out something similar already. If you just want to survive as long as possible, is there anywhere with a renewable food source? If so, all you'd want to do is camp a location that is hopefully semi-wilderness with respawning ammo/food nearby. Maybe there aren't such places in which case I am wrong. This post reads like you haven't actually played the mod

Are there any tricks for finding someone like this? The map is so incredibly huge, especially at night, how could you ever find someone who did not want to be found, unless they literally stayed in the same building where they killed you 2 hours ago instead of just changing towns (with no way to identify their name on a hardcore server) or logging out?i just spent the last two hours hunting down a son of a bitch who earlier betrayed and killed me for my beans. i found him, shot him in the stomach, and let him bleed out before burying him in his own blood.
thanks for the rifle, asshole. sweet, sweet revenge.
I pretty much only trust gaffers at this point. I will travel with other people, but not with a gun at my back. This game is making me a cynical untrustworthy bastard. Love it.
Better them than me quickly became my motto after the first couple lives.

Things that injure or kill you tend to be the following in my opinion:
* Tried to do something normal like open a door, glitch broke legs
* Got bored of staying in one place, decided to try to find friends (ran into zombies/bandit)
* Got bored of not shooting zombies, decided to shoot zombies
* Got bored of not shooting humans, decided to start PVP

I've been trying to get it to work right but my mods are all screwed up. Something with @CBA.
I'm going to do a full reinstall when I get my new PC up and running.
You don't need @CBA. The only mod you should have active is DayZ, it's not compatible with anything else.

This.
I've been having unrelated errors as well, pretty frustrating. Completely gave up last night and did a re-install. Not entirely sure what the problem is hopefully I'll be able to get it figured out tonight.
Not really no, and all the loot is random.
The thing is you can basically avoid dying of thirst by filling your waterbottle(s) at a pond but to get food you need to hunt (or be lucky enough to find canned food) which would lead you to running out of ammo so you'd have to go to a zombie infested place to search for more ammo or another weapon.
Making a fire is also fairly risky on a 50 player server, especially if you're alone.
I can see how you could play it in a way that gets boring after a while (this holds for most games in general), even more so if you're playing solo all the time.
For me even the boring stuff becomes fun when you're with other people talking over mumble or in game voice chat. Hell, we were rolling around on a field for 30 or 40 minutes on Monday while waiting for a group member to get back in, haha.
I FOUND CRUMBS.
This game is so fun with a friend.
