This is a longshot bet, but Suicide Squad may be a shortcut to having a bunch of B-list villains fleshing out a Legion of Doom-type thing.

Would you want Lex in SS 2?

Films should have supporting characters. Why is it a problem if that supporting cast has other heroes included in it?

Is Winter Solider bad for having two or three other "heroes" in it's supporting cast? Black Widow, Falcon, and Nick Fury? Iron Man 2 and 3 has War Machine. Hell a lot IM's supporting cast are comic characters. Thor films have the Warrior's Four and Heimdall who all really should get more screen time and even Loki in the second one.

Characters appear in other characters books all the time. Especially since not everyone has titles of their own. Some are supporting characters of others from time to time. The movies shouldn't go out of their way to not reflect this. If you have access to the characters use them instead of making completely brand new characters.

It won't be so bad if John and Kyle are actually trying to stop Parallax Hal after some tragic moment in space. Then it's really just 2 heroes and 1 antagonist.

I'd really want Coast City to be the thing that triggers Hal, but I don't think the audience can handle another destroyed city.

My green Lantern Corps set up

Sinestro and Abin Sur are on earth and are all like. "Why do you guys still have religion in your politics? Every race in the universe that is as technologically advanced as you have removed religion from politics entirely. And why the hell is my ring not working properly?" They do some research, notice the massive culture of fear on earth. They research all of the surrounding inhabited systems and find that earth is the center of a massive, cultural progression sink hole, where fear is pervasive. They dig deeper into the earth's history but that knowledge is deemed forbidden by the Guardians. They confront the guardians and the guardians spill the beans. 65 million year ago the Guardians of the Universe, banished and imprisoned Parallax on Earth and the reason the movies are so glum so far is because Parallax's presence on earth is pervading the subconsciousness of humans.

Also bring back Mark Strong, and Parallax will be more Lovecraftian in design and not a Diarrhea Shart. And most of the Justice League will appear.

GL for TT is not a good tradeoff. Especially with the kinds of stories and deeper elements that the GL mythology could bring.

I am really looking forward to Green Lantern Corps. Such an amazing cosmic world that needs justice done to it in movie-form.

I continue to be sad by Hal-haters, though.

I don't understand why DC is trying to shove so many heroes in their movies. It's already proving problematic and they just keep adding more and more....

Who wants to start taking bets on how many Speedsters are going to be in the new Flash film?

It makes sense for Green Lantern. THe whole corps structure is the best thing about it. It's much better story if it's about what's essentially a space opera police force than if it would be about lone superhero with funky ring.

I think they really nailed HQ

I still don't know about the normal American accent. Harley's always been written with a New York accent, and it feels weird to not have such a defining characteristic of her.

Agreed.

There's only a very slim difference between a team movie (i.e. X-men, Guardians of the Galaxy) and an ensemble movie (i.e. Avengers, kind of BvS), which is that the latter features characters that exist independently in other movies. I mean Wolverine got his own movie series but that's kind of a special case. You didn't need 5 solo movies before X-men, while audiences probably wouldn't have been as accepting of The Avengers straight up since all of those characters weren't really known and have weird origin stories that aren't related to each other. You can get away with jumping straight into GL corps since the existence of the corps isn't much of a leap from the existence of one GL agent.

I don't think you really ever -need- to set up an ensemble movie. Ocean's Eleven didn't need 11 solo films with each character in some drama/comedy to introduce the audience to these quirky characters with weird origins. You can release a Justice League or Avengers movie fine without any solo films and people will watch them fine. The Marvel method isn't something that was required, it is simply something that's very clever commercially because their end game plan wasn't just to lead up to and sell an Avengers movie, it was to have a bunch of independent films and sequels they could release every 2-3 years between "event" films. It's not a necessity of narrative or story that led to this, but the desire of more money.

I can't watch LotR, Seven Samurai or The Magnificent Seven until all the characters have been given their sorely needed origin movies. /s

Yeah, it always depends on the execution.

OT but do any of you watch American Horror Story? I started watching this a few days ago. Been binge watching like crazy. On the second episode of S3 now. I'm just mesmerized by Jessica Lange chewing up all her scenes, haha.

I really don't understand why people feel like there will be some kind of "superhero movie" fatigue in a few years.
It's not that they think it will happen
They just want it to happen because they don't like the superhero genre movies.
It's like hating on AAA games and the current flavor of the generation: shooter fatigue, open world fatigue, etc

Eh, its not entirely unwarranted. Cycles kind of happen in entertainment where a genre or style dip for a while then maybe comes back later. Comic movies must tend to be the easy thing to point to because they are so prevalent right now

Can somebody get me a screen grab of Superman in BvS standing in the courtroom while on fire, I want to photoshop Tom Brady onto it.

It's not that hard to understand. For the past few years, the MCU has been on the forefront of movie discussions and those tend to follow an already recognized formula. Even the biggest fan could admit that the movies could be virtually indistinguishable to people who simply don't care to look too hard. They share a lot of the same actors, the same aesthetics, and generally tend to follow the same story beats. Sooner or later, people are going to get tired of it and that's something that happens all the time with big franchises. Just look at videogames and how people who complained about FPS fatigue are now complaining about open world fatigue. It's a standard cycle. It's a result of too much too soon.

I don't mean to single out Marvel either. It's just that they're the easiest to point to because they have been really great at keeping up their release schedule. In my opinion, the specific fatigue those fans are lamenting can be extended to Hollywood Blockbusters in general. When I saw the trailer for the new Independence Day a few days ago, while it does look kinda cool, a lot of those scenes look they could have been part of a Transformers movie. I'm a little tired of the destruction porn that is seeping into these flicks as well.

I think most the films will be solos, but there's an outside chance Shazam might have Mary Marvel, but I think that's slim and I'd prefer them not to. Adding in Mary & Freddy makes it a bit too campy for me, atleast for the first film. I would like to see Mary at some point though.

I think they'll add cameos though, we already know Batman will be in WW's present day scenes.

Yeah I watched up to Season 3 and I liked all the seasons. Four's concept didn't really hit home with me but I'll probably give it a go some time later.

It was hilarious seeing Teddy Sears in season 1 though, if keep up with Flash as well.

Haha, yea that threw me off at first but I really enjoyed him and Quinto together.

On topic, I don't think Batman being in WW was confirmed. Just a rumor that hasn't been brought up again since it first dropped. The current rumor is Superman because Cavill didn't deny he was in it when asked.

Well I'm kinda fatigue. Been waiting for DC for so long and I disliked BvS, I think If I find Suicide Squad, I'm skipping the rest of the movies. I've skipped the last few Marvel movies and have no desire to see Civil War or X-man.

Does anyone have the WebM of Batman crushing that guys head with his Batmobile? I saw it floating around on /co and I really want to show it to my friends who haven't seen the movie.

One week after the release of Batman V Superman, reports were saying Suicide Squad was under going reshoots to add more humor and lightness. Basically, they realized why Batman V Superman sucked, and Suicide Squad sucks in the exact same way, so they want to fix it.

Goddamn, still with this shit?

He has some offbeat ideas, I agree with a lot of what he says.

If someone wanted to tank the DCEU real quick, they'd follow his suggestions.

Hey, you know Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, etc? Yeah, let's not do them because they have a history. Instead use Doctor Fate, Captain Atom, or Starman!

Hey, you know the one part most people liked about BvS, Batman? Yeah, let's wait until we have two consecutive well received Superman movies before we have a Batman movie!

He says SS sucks because they're doing reshoots to add humor, too.

That was fucking badass. There was another guy at the back of the truck when that happened and he's like wtf is going on? And that shot where the batmobile goes through a boat in slow motion: Zack Snyder in a nutshell.

Cracked can fuck off. They have been onto DC/WB's ass for a while. They keep posting article after article on how it blows.

I do want a Swamp Thing film down the line though.

He also shits on the Flash CW show but I'm pretty sure it's doing quite well for them. Also failed to mention 2 Ghost Rider films and 2 Hulk films in Marvel's release list along with X-Men Origins.

I think he was just going "Marvel-in-general" because he name-dropped Blade for "off-the-beaten-path" characters.

He name dropped Blade because it was actually successful. On the dud side of things, he never brought up those films. I get the generalization and not listing off EVERY property, but Ghost Rider was horrible and HULK got 2 chances at doing something and Origins killed a franchise right out of the gate. Oh...forgot about Punisher too.

No Origins, but he names/references (multiple) Fantastic Four movies, Man-Thing, Daredevil, and Elektra as some of their failures. I think Clay is talking about Marvel as a whole (Fox, Columbia, Disney, etc.) because he mentions "38" of their movies.

Good luck, reshoots that try to completely change the tone of a film always work.

I zoned out after this dumb idiotic and quite frankly incorrect statement.

EDIT: I made the mistake of reading the first page of that garbage piece... something about Marvel doing Fantastic Four and Blade before doing Avengers and that DC should stop everything and that DC should break up with WB and get other companies to make their movies... so so stupid lol... half a minute of research would refute all these dumb points. I guess when you have a platform you can post whatever you want and hope enough people believe you.

Anyone here collect the DC Comics Multiverse Batman v Superman figures? The last two are starting to pop up in stores. I don't know why they went with Bat Creature. They had so many other options left, like Doomsday, Clark, Bruce, Lois, Alfred, Superman Soldier, Parademon, Flash, Cyborg, etcetera.
