MI2 is the only one I really like. Got kinda ridiculous with the face off shenanigans, but it's a lot of fun.

Just stay alive! I'm not going to lose you!

I'm keeping note of ALL of you folks

One's who dislike Batman Returns or Spider-man 2

The ones who now enjoy MI 2...

MI > 2 > 5 > 3 > 4

Only one I really dislike is the 4th one. The sequels overall are kind of forgettable but enjoyable theater experiences for sure

2 is so stupid lol but I loved the John Woo cheese. It felt like a metal gear solid movie. Soundtrack was 🔥🔥🔥 and Tom Cruise has never looked cooler than he was in that.

Curious how cavill will be as a bad guy. He's kind of bland as a protagonist. Even in man from uncle where he's told to dial up the charm I found him the weakest of the 3 leads. This MI will be a chance for us to see him in a new light.

MI2 is only one I'm iffy on, because John Woo had to inject his style into it and the first MI was very different. I like me some John Woo but we got a puritanized version of what he used to do in MI2.

The rest of the movies are pretty good. I don't want to see Cavill playing a villain tho. He should be Superman all the time. ;_;

H'ell also be 60 soon! Maybe he can get the Mr. Phelps like role with Cavill being the new operation agent.

Although, imo, he works far better as Bond.

Didn't Cruise just turn 50? :lol

I think this franchise will have to be pried out of his dead hands. And I hope Paramount is smart enough to realize that people only watch these movies for Cruise.

I do like the idea of giving Ethan a physical antagonist; a Bane to his Batman. I guess Jean Reno could have been that too if De Palma hadn't stuck him in a helicopter for the ending.

This is going to seem like such a drive-in post, but it's just because I've felt no interest in looking at what seems to be a never-ending negativity train with this universe.

Does ANYBODY still have faith or hope in this DC Universe? I'm such a huge DC Comics fan, and I actually liked BvS, though acknowledging that it had a lot of flaws. But I just feel so down about all of this, with all of the Batman solo movie stuff, the turmoil going on behind the scenes with a bunch of the movies, with director changes, page 1 re-writes, etc.

I haven't been looking into what the general fan reaction is to this stuff in many months now, but is morale low among everyone else? Is there anything that would make me feel a little more positive? I want the DCEU to succeed and be good, but I don't have any faith in it. Even the stuff of WW I see looks pretty cool, but I don't even have any faith that IT will be good. I just hope to be surprised in a good way.

Well, technically WB letting Reeves do a rewrite and WB saying Flash needs a rewrite is good news. It means they weren't just willing to just move forward with whatever they had. Announcing smaller projects like Gotham City Sirens and Nightwing means they have no current plans to stop making these movies. Even still just talking about Dark Universe still being a project is something to hang on to if you ask me.

Of course our morale is low, but if we are getting this thread to an end in 6 months it means we really care and hope for the best. Personally I have high hopes (And confidence!) for Wonder Woman but JL onwards was hit by the BvS/SS recerption recoil, so I'm on wait and see mode.

Who cares, I'll be there day one.

all this drama happens.all the time to every studio and big movie blockbusters (except slick oiled machines like Disneys) but its just magnified by the media and by us since its all so hotly anticipated.

It's a valid question. Speaking for myself, I've been enjoying the movies so far, and what bums meout on all of this is the fact that we're getting some movies later than planned. Even If we get only one DCEU movie next year maybe WB will take some time to course correct/make adjustments after JL, the movies will still be made though.

I'm actually pretty positive. We've been getting a good amount of great to "meh" news. A lot of the "bad news" we've gotten have been meh at best. The state and perception of the DCEU have turned "meh" news such as rewrites into negative news.

Nope. I couldn't give a hoot about this anymore (or any Superhero movie).

Last year I was posting in this thread like crazy. But now the hype and interest has dwindled to nothing. I stick to my oldschool Hellblazer and other DC comics, which is way better than anything live-action superhero stuff.

Still love Arrow and Flash on CW though.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Lot of good feedback. I've just been afraid to go in any DCEU related thread lately, including this one to an extent, because I don't want to feel more down about it. Some may say, "who cares. They're just movies." But when you're a huge fan of a comics universe, seeing it done well on the big screen is such a thrill.

I guess I just hoped it would be at least a little smoother sailing. I know this behind the scenes stuff happens a lot, but it feels even more prevalent in this DCEU.

I think if WW turns out good, it will really restore some of my faith. Here's hoping for the best.

What I'll say is this, Warners-DC topics get clicks so you hear a lot more about how the sausage gets made at every step. And it's honestly not irregular with how most movies get made. It's just that other movies don't garner as much attention. At the same time, and not unwarranted after BvS Theatrical and Suicide Squad, it skews towards negative confirmation bias territory with a heavy dose of misinformation. But as a dork who follows various movie productions, who acknowledges he's posting in a DC thread and easy to see how I'd skew towards positive confirmation bias, very very few of these stories are worrying. Off the top of my head the Rick Famuyiwa departure from Flash is one of the few, and even that's overblown with regards to events surrounding Seth Grahame-Smith's departure.

The thing is, DC's original vision was so ambitious that only a perfect job by everyone involved would have made it justice. Making generic movies is one thing, making existential, provocative, deep (for the genre) or decostructing movies is other. Suicide Squad failed for that reason (They tried to force-shape a more provocative movie into a lighter romp in post production).

They're going through some motions right now because they realised that they'd need a Nolan like genius at the top to fulfill their initial ambitiious vision, and they they are not ready for it, so they're tonning everything down and replanning the road. I think it's an acceptable course of action so long they don't go full Disney.

Yes and no.

It's a tough pill to swallow and me myself, I'm down on it right now. But they are taking a good hard look and reworking everything. That is what everyone wants. Sure we wanted them to nail it on the first try but they didn't, now they are taking their time to make sure it's right and good and we're hating on them for even doing that. We have no idea what's happening behind the scenes and we have no idea what a Johns led film division is capable of. Johns took over while JL was wrapping... AM is his true test and even, would you really judge someone off just one film?

Also, for the record, it doesn't help when EVERYTHING DC related is leaked. Marvel is very tight lipped compared to DC, where, when anything is discussed, it's out and being reported on. Which leads to a lot of wishy washyness... when i reality, Marvel goes back and forth too, with different possibilities internally (when they announce it they do stick by it though).

EDIT: I will also add, that the dripfeed news coming from Batman makes it look bad. If the news was Affleck drops out as director, Reeves comes on and wants new script. We'd all be like yup, sounds right, new director, his take. Except we got each of those tidbits a month apart. One of those things led to all three of them and it's treated as a negative each time they came out.

I'm still hopeful for the future, but I'm also a realist and recognize this whole thing could get blown up at the end of this year. Warner Bros lucked out in a way with these delays. If they choose to sit tight, they can more or less wait until the end of the year to see how both WW and JL do from a critical and financial standpoint and then make some really tough calls if they feel they're needed.

I think they'll turn it around, but it will be a slow climb. I know my dark and gritty cinematic universe is dead and that kinds bums me out, but I'll still be there opening weekend for the forseeable future.

It's hard to not feel down over the past few months where there has been almost no positive coverage. You have productions getting delayed, scripts going back to page one, directors leaving, rumors of a major cast member might have one foot out the door, movies being moved back, etc.

It's an amazing thing how you can change one word or preface something and totally change the narrative of what's actually happening. This shit is so scary. I'm glad you guys actually read the article first and didn't just insta-reply and look stupid.

Stupid internet is ruining everything.

Calls? Call for what? They have no idea what to call for, other way they would have done that ages ago.

I've said it before if WW and JL continue the status quo, I believe this shit is getting blown up. It'd be the perfect stopping point. You only have one film in actual production and a bunch about to enter production.
