(3) IDENTITY CRISIS
06/ 2004: Identity Crisis #1 (of 7) -- 163,111 -- [173,415]
07/ 2004: Identity Crisis #2 (of 7) -- 129,852 (-20.4%) -- [136,524]
08/ 2004: Identity Crisis #3 (of 7) -- 124,601 (- 4.0%)

A decent drop-off for a third issue. Due to its inflated cover price of $ 3.95, IDENTITY CRISIS is leading the August charts in terms of its retail rank.

Reorders for the first two are also on the chart, suggesting that author Brad Meltzer succeeded in designing a controversial storyline that keeps generating interest.

Interesting to see the readership stability of many of the books talked about on this board. Sorry, but I can't just take Gaf's word on whether a book's good or not. ;)

Ha, no, I didn't mean overall sales. I meant how many readers stick around after the first few issues and the month to month stability. If it's regular readers are leaving, why should I jump in? This data is to be used with Gaf's recommendations. :)

WORST. JUSTIFICATION OF ARGUMENT. EVER.

If you didn't notice, 90% of comic book readers are idiots. X-Men's sales are probably as consistent as you'll get. But guess what? The book stinks!

Sure, I wasn't really thinking of the popular books when I had this in mind. X-men and such have really loyal fans. It's more for books like Human Target and Fables (and to a lesser extant for popular books after a new writer/artist).

(169) HUMAN TARGET
08/ 2003: Human Target #1 -- 17,626
09/ 2003: Human Target #2 -- 14,401 (-18.3%)
10/ 2003: Human Target #3 -- 13,347 (- 7.3%)
11/ 2003: Human Target #4 -- 12,088 (- 9.4%)
12/ 2003: Human Target #5 -- 10,945 (- 9.5%)
01/ 2004: Human Target #6 -- 10,223 (- 6.6%)
02/ 2004: Human Target #7 -- 9,896 (- 3.2%)
03/ 2004: Human Target #8 -- 9,629 (- 2.7%)
04/ 2004: Human Target #9 -- 9,556 (- 0.8%)
05/ 2004: Human Target #10 -- 9,465 (- 1.0%)
06/ 2004: Human Target #11 -- 9,370 (- 1.0%)
07/ 2004: Human Target #12 -- 9,139 (- 2.5%)
08/ 2004: Human Target #13 -- 8,913 (- 2.5%)
6 / 12 months: -9.9% / -49.4%

The downward slide temporarily slowed down in the last half-year, but HUMAN TARGET is slipping at an uncomfortable rate again.

The second trade paperback ships in November. Unless some people actually buy it, it'll probably be the last one.
(92) FABLES
08/ 2003: Fables #16 -- 25,365 (-0.8%)
09/ 2003: Fables #17 -- 25,856 (+1.9%)
10/ 2003: Fables #18 -- 26,350 (+1.9%)
11/ 2003: Fables #19 -- 25,948 (-1.5%)
12/ 2003: Fables #20 -- 25,640 (-1.2%)
01/ 2004: Fables #21 -- 25,326 (-1.2%)
02/ 2004: Fables #22 -- 25,317 (-0.0%)
03/ 2004: Fables #23 -- 25,211 (-0.4%)
04/ 2004: Fables #24 -- 25,464 (+1.0%)
05/ 2004: Fables #25 -- 25,526 (+0.2%)
06/ 2004: Fables #26 -- 25,553 (+0.1%)
07/ 2004: Fables #27 -- 25,146 (-1.6%)
08/ 2004: Fables #28 -- 25,076 (-0.3%)
6 / 12 months: -1.0% / -1.1%

As usual, FABLES stays hot on the heels of Y.
I'd have to wonder why the readers of Human Target are leaving it. Whereas, all the Fables readers seem to be in agreement which supports the positive impressions I've heard of the book. Now this isn't saying Human Target is bad, it's just saying Human Target is a bigger risk of your time and money to jump into, mostly time for me. Really, for this thread, I figured Gafers would like to support or defend their specific books or at least, just see the numbers.

Fables, Invincible & Y - The Last Man are the scans^Wbooks I look forward to each month.

As to Identity Crisis, I think Ralph Dibny is the bad guy. In the last book there's the "Who benefits" bit, and he's just been informed of a sizable insurance payout.
