Dead Island |OT| Island of the Dead

Played a 5 hour marathon, no crashes, no freezes, no sudden frame drops, and no impactful glitches. (I did see an NPC spinning in circles though lol)

Random Thoughts below

- Ripper mod isn't that good :/, expected it to shred zombz apart.
- Blood trail leading into a dark flickering light basement, no thanks.
- Fast zombies are crazy, More than 3 fast zombies coming at you, run or find high ground cuz they dont mess around.
- Got my first gun, a revolver with a single bullet..............yeah ammo is rare.
- Thug zombies are punks........but rage mode takes care of em quick :)
- First skill I put all my points into is increase durability of blunt objects.(Sam B is blunt weapon specialist)
- Only died once so far, I came close to dying a billion times though. I usally go into rage mode when im close to dying and blow away everything.
- Game is fun and not broken at all, you people are cray cray.

Saw this on the Steam Forums and thought it was amusing:

could someone make a new topic, like dead island backlash thread? and sum up all the info?

i think many people avoid OTs and stick to mainly reading reviews and they could buy a buggy ass game and not be very happy.

or maybe what i've been reading is just being over exaggerated and it's not very messed up? i'm not sure.

i was waiting reviews on this game before i bought it and i'm still not very sure.

I'm pretty sure there were at least 2 other games that uploaded the wrong version of their game on steam. I know Merchants of Brooklyn did it.

Cities in Motion was the last game this happened to iirc, they accidently uploaded a beta version to steam...they quickly fixed it though

It is no more buggy than your average open world game though.

Fallout 3? Lol
Oblivion? Lol
Two Worlds 2? Lol
Risen? Lol
Gothic? Lol
GTA IV? Lol

People need to know what they are getting into, this is a low budget european game, jankyness should be expected.

The easiest way to confirm whether or not the files uploaded to the Steam servers are those of the developer's build is if someone who bought the retail DVD release of the title tried to install it. If the title requires a large download (bigger than the patch) due to failed verification then it possible that the developer's build is on the Steam servers and the dvd is the actual release version. If not then either the correct files were uploaded or the mistake was done at the time of the DVDs being pressed.

Seeing as it's built on a new revision of their in house engine, could someone who owns one of their previous games check the installs for comparison?

Considering you just respawn infinitely, no one will ever be challenged. You just keep going until you win. Cool for some people I guess, but I personally like to play an actual game. There's no tension or sense of accomplishment when there is no way to lose the game.

Wait what? Fucking casual - age.

Please tell me this easy mode shit is only on co-op?

the pdb files make it seem quite likely that they built in debug mode, not release. so they should at least be able to make a release build that runs slightly faster, if not fixes the other weird stuff.

Thought it unlocked on the 8th for some? (9th here)
AFAIK there are only 2 unlock dates, one today for North America and 9th for the rest of the world. The NA/ROW label on the key simply means that the key can be used anywhere.

I read in some reviews that you lose cash when you die and your weapons do not return to their previous state when you respawn...so it seems like it is like an mmo where death is treated as an inconvenience but it keeps the game flowing.

Ah ok, yeah sorry I might have been confusing Space Marine as it also only unlocks here on the 9th, but read that some people's games is showing it will unlock on the 8th.

So to correct my statement then, thanks NA for Beta testing!

I wouldn't be so sure about the dev build, this is Techland after all. This could very well be the right version ._.

That's what I was thinking too. Just because the debug files have been found in this build, why is everyone automatically assuming that there is a final, better build they just need to upload to fix all (or most of) the issues? Maybe what is out now is the best they managed with the PC version?

My game doesn't unlock till Friday and I sure hope they fix this shit before then.

you might be right in that they might not have put in stuff to make the release build a proper final build without the no clip stuff and so on, but when you compile your program in visual studio or whatever you have a choice between compiling a debug version, with information for a debugger (stuff like function and variable names etc), or a release version without all that stuff in.

generally the debug version won't turn on all the compiler optimisations to make the code easier to debug, so the release version will at least run faster, even if they havent got as far as making it switch off the no clipping and stuff in the release build.

basically if they have even a shred of competence there is no way they would release a debug build on purpose, since they could at least just compile it without the debug flags on.

Oh wow, just read about the build. Does that mean we will have to redownload the full thing?
Everything about the wrong build being released is speculation at this point. I don't think it's the case.

I think a lot of people actually expected that. I know I did. I'd say very few are surprised about bugs, clunky animations or anything like that, but releasing a dev/debug build with cheat commands directly bound to common keys. That's just legendary QA right there.

Don't get me wrong. I am still looking forward to EU release and if it's not fixed during the next few days, I probably won't care that much and enjoy it anyway. But as former QA, I am pretty amused by what Techland released today.

LOL, some of the people on the steam forum is just plain crazy. Link.

Although I do agree that this 'buggy' launch is doing the game more harm than good, it's honestly not the end of the world!

I'm scared to boot up the game. :/ I expected some technical issues like screen tearing. But it sounds like the game is unplayable for quite a few people.

There's one tiny little plus about being the last people to get a hold of the game; everyone else are just beta testers.

Working fine for me... the vsync in that .vcr file solves the tearing. Worst thing is the FOV for me.
