Why would they be patching this game if it's a completely wrong build? Wouldn't they just find the files they were supposed to release and release those? They said these files exist right? But yet they're patching the dev build....

This smells like bullshit.
This.

Patching can mean removing, adding or changing files in Steam terms. Technically you probably could call replacing dev build code files with actual release build files, while not touching any assets, via Steam "patching".

In the end it's just a choice of words and it's not even really out of place.

Is it just me or is the mouse sensitivity totally fucked up? It's really fast in game, and really slow in the menus. I'm also getting some weird jittery almost screen tearing even with vsync() forced.

anyone else tried 3D vision?

Its basically broken and unplayable for me, rendering lots of things incorrectly and rendering those interaction icons at the front of the scene (versus in 3D space where they should be).

in other words, those icons are all rendered on a single 3D plane instead of near or far based on the object they are covering

I mean its insane, why put a 3D vision logo on the FRONT OF THE GAME BOX when its totally broken. I mean they arent even trying, the menu allows only 100Hz max framerate vs the usual target of 120 (ie 60 fps each eye)

Bizarre. Its as f****d up as Deus Ex on 3D vision but deus ex explicitly supports ATI only but this game proudly displays it on the box.

Seems like it would just be a lot easier to release the ready-to-go final retail PC build that they accidentally forgot to release.

It's fairly common practice for an "completely wrong" build of a game to be allowed for preload, with a day 0 patch when the game is unlocked. For some reason, that did not happen last night.

This is not a case of us getting the fucking alpha version of the game from some insane incompetence, it was a complete version of the game - it's just not the build they intended to release to the public (I'd wager this build was for testers). They were counting on that patch being there to make the preloads and the physical copies into the retail version, but it didn't come until 12 hours later.

As far as can be determined todays "patch" now brings the game to the current version.

This turd of a company rushed this game out in order to capitalize on the fall gaming season. I implore those reading this thread to not buy this game on PC.

This sort of behavior should not be tolerated.

devs - will the saved games work with your upcoming patch?

just let us know up front, Let us know if we should just be messing around until the patch comes.

People wont be happy but being in the dark will piss people off more if they put 15 hours in the story and have to start again on the new patch

Im going to request a refund from Valve/Steam and if denied calling my CC company to stop payment.

Crazy if true. They were bragging about how the pc version wasn't a port. Even without the bugs there aren't options like vsync and anti-aliasing that even a lot of mediocre port jobs include.

Got this from redbox going to start soon.

Any one weapon type boost seem the best choice? Does the story change depending on who you pick? Just wondering since I'm going to fire it up soon.

if you stop payment, you will probably lose you steam account. dont fuck with valve. Deal with it through them

beaten like the zombie genre.

So they're saying the proper version is up on Steam now, but nobody can get it?

There is no proper version. There is a patched version of the "dev" version. That uhhh removes the noclip and some other minor bullshit. That apparently constitutes the "final build" versus the shit available at release.

Complete list of improvements:

• Games now filter correctly in lobby
• After joining a coop game enemies now spawn correctly

User guidance improved. (Quest guidance, UI, shop)

Additional interface polishing
• Map tracking now works correctly after loading checkpoints
• Health and stamina bars of enemies now display correctly in coop.
• Locations of invisible NPCs are no longer shown
• More than one player can now use the same ladder simultaneously
• Focus on items in shops is not changing after operation (sell, buy)
• Additional Interface polishing
• Fixed displaying gather rings near some door

Player death behavior improved
• Respawn position now saved when playing in cooperative mode
• If player dies whilst inside vehicle, menu will now be hidden

Save game mechanics extended
• Added distinction between quest checkpoints and other saves

Minor animation fixes
• AI animation now displays correctly after fast travel or travel through portals

AI improvements
• Improved enemy awareness (zombies)
• Enemies reaction to fire adapted
• Enemies are now able to successfully reach player on some arenas
• Shooting enemies no longer spawn infinitely

Balancing changes in difficulty, majorly for second playthrough
• Item level will be calculated correctly when playing in second playthrough
• Kick interrupting reload now adapted, after clip wis inserted reload is treated as successful
• Health regeneration is now disabled during grab.
• More HP for all escorted NPCs
• Removed all instances of Butcher during escorts
• Purna can gain bonus rage from both “Grim Inspiration” and “Inspiring Kick”
• Only "Walker" type enemies increase the extra XP of the "Combo" skill from Xian’s Survival skill tree

Pause Option added
• Added information about players requesting pause (Coop)

Looting rules improved
• Thrown items now cannot be picked up by another player for 5 minutes.

Sound bugs fixed

Which is exactly what I am going to do. But regardless of what steam does I am not paying for this game.

God damnit. I was really looking forward to this too. All I can do is hope they buck their ideas up before it releases here.

What a complete mess.

I can't even get Dead Island to run anymore. It hangs on the "Preparing to launch Dead Island".

Edit: If i go to the DI folder and run the exe for the game it runs, but then it doesn't show me on steam playing it and I still get two "corrupt file" error messages in the start screen. This is sad. This is very sad only.

Extremely slight spoilers, 1 to 1/2 hours into the game.

I can't believe
I missed the drunk guy you give booze to early on in the game. And I've moved on to the next part of the story.
Can I go back at some point?

edit: Spoiler-izing just in case.

Anyone have some impressions from the PS3 version?

I heard it's a bit inferior to the 360 when it comes to textures, such as taking more time to load, but aside from that. Is it good?

PS: Feel bad for you, Master race. =/ I hope there's a way to fix those problems..

everyone's gonna cool down. there are still days to the EU/ROW release, perhaps all will be sorted out by then. give it a little more time!

WTF I dont even see an option to turn on VSync? Checked all the options screens and didnt see any option

HORRIBLE screen tearing on the first cutscene and once gameplay starts IN A TINY ROOM

WTF!

Does anyone have the problem when often if you boot, it seems stuck at a black screen?

You have it backwards. The 360 version is the crappier version in this case.

Well, the freezing may be gone. Though I would not touch the ini/scr file to change anything. Changing filtering from Trilinear to Anisotropic made it start freeze.

It's a shame that this game is getting trashed because of a less than stellar PC port. I've been playing on 360 for the past 3 hours and I have to say the game is fantastic. This game is definitely worth the purchase from what I've seen of it so far BUY IT ON CONSOLE! Don't be scared away because of all of the shitstorm that's coming out of the screwed up PC version (which I'm sure will be fixed ASAP anyways)

yeah irony is I got a nice PC and moved over because I couldn't take the tearing issues.

tearing is horrific here on PC, eg the initial cut scene. this is a total embarrassment to the developers/ shame on you guys. Its not just a little tearing at the top, its right in the damn middle of the screen.

The 3D vision fail I can forgive as that can be fixed with a patch perhaps.

But this ugly blatant tearing is shameful.

Had to force it on with video card control panel (WTF, this will mess up other games!)

2/3 times I boot it just black, re downloading but I doubt it will change. Had to crtl alt del to get out.

No, never. I worked hundreds of hours to scrounge up the $35 I paid for this on Good Man Gaming - I even had to pass on buying food for my children and my wife in order to do so. Now my entire family has left me and my copy of Dead Island is just the dev build in disguise, laughing at me behind my back. Fuck you Techland!!!

I'm literally only JUST into the 2nd chapter (since I keep pausing it and jumping on the computer every 30 seconds) but the tearing gets much less noticeable after that opening cut scene--which was really bad.

Dude, use D3D Overrider to force V-sync with triple buffering.

Oh really, I read it wrong I guess (it was on the IGN's review)

Then I will get the PS3 version after a price drop. Thanks for answering, kind sir. :)

So just got home, is the new version up now? I already uninstalled it. I'm gonna start a new download... only takes like an hour and a half.

wait no, only 47minutes! my Internet rox!

If you have an Nvidia card you can just create a game specific profile to force V-sync. Best option is to just get D3D Overrider as I mentioned in my last post (also supports game specific profiles).

Absolutely. I can already tell that it needed at least another two months of development and polish, but they don't want to try to compete with the heavyweight November releases of MW3 and Skyrim and shit. I don't blame them for that, but still, they shouldn't push it out early.

Warnen said:

I'm not sure if that'll do anything. I downloaded it today at work after the patch came out and I'm getting that problem both at home and at work. Sometimes I can get in, but I can't figure what magic combo of things I'm doing to trick it.

Arucardo said:

yeah I never needed it before now, played so many awesome games and never needed it.

I mean WTF dudes you make this huge game full of content, then something as stupid as horrific screen tear with no vsync option. surprised this isnt slammed in reviews, I can tolerate tearing I played alan wake till the end, that initial cut scene tears worse than anything I have ever seen. ever. but damn is the engine that useless?

Wait I read in this thread that the PS3 version is the worst of the three. I'd hold off until you'd get more opinions on it.
