How to back up saves on PC?

To me there is no tension. The closest is thinking about how expensive the weapon will be to repair if I get it to 3%, or if I run out of bullets. I can always kick then stomp. Dying don't even have much of a negative. This isn't a tense game.

I'll agree there, though for me it's a little bit more now in Act 2, but overall, I agree.

Maybe there will be a demon's souls like mod haha. Think about that. You die, you drop all of your current exp. Zombies would be feared then. Also make it easier to die.

I have a small complaint so far and I'm just about done with Act II. The city seems to be geared for more than 1 player. Every corner I turn there are 3 - 4 zombies, with a special zombie, I hate having to start after turning off my console... means I when I go on my next quest I'd have to kill more than 30 Zombies, I tend to run but when they put in "Infected" with the rest they catch-up and I have to turn around to take care of them and then it slows me down for the rest to get me.

Another pet-peeve is when I start after a console shut-down, all the non-ending quests will load... like give Kim Water... so far into the game it will take awhile to get through them all.

I think the "bugs" are being overexagerated. At least on the PC. I'm almost near the end and I haven't encountered a single bug. Only small glitches like zombies clipping through doors, but besides that, game's been awesome.

But maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.

I'd be buying the PS3 version so I'm hoping a fix comes soon, the game looks right up my street.

In addition to my gameplay complaints last night, the game's co-op system is flat out bad. I seem to randomly lose weapons that I had in my inventory when I join a friends game. And for some unexplained reason the game started telling me that the quests we complete won't save to my profile. Even though my friend and I have played together basically since the beginning and have had the same quests all the way through. This is the most poorly developed game I've played in a long time.

I'm still at a loss wondering why people thought this would be a triple-A game. Because of that CG trailer? The companies attached to it are nothing spectacular. And neither is Ded Island.

This is the exact reason why I'm holding off, I don't mind paying full price but the game breaking bugs are a real turn off.

If the bugs are still this shitty, I'm waiting to spend my moneys. I really want to play this, but not if there's a possibility that I'm going to lose 20 hours worth of playtime because of some shitty code.

The game is working relatively bug-free on the PC now considering all the technical challenges they had to solve with the scope of the game. I think consoles are still fucked because of XBox/PS3 certification processes.

I just arrived at the city. Some pointers so far:

Good:
- Great zombie animations. Nothing like a zombie sprinting towards you. Feels 'next gen'
- Coop is very fun (not sure if it tops Borderlands)
- Graphics are great. Some very well done textures. Game looks even better with custom edits

Bad:
- When using the keyboard, it randomly stops working and sometimes crashes (no issue with controller)
- The voice 'acting' is some of the worst I've heard in a long time
- Very few graphics options to edit. Some ridiculous things on by default (FOV, bloom and weapon refraction). You shouldn't need to download a program to edit them!

What costom edits did you use to improve the look of the game? This is like one of the prettiest games I own on PC and it runs over 60fps without vsync. Great engine.

See here.

The FOV has to be either 75 or 82.5. The bloom should be turned off and weapon refraction can also be disabled if you don't want the stupid water effect. FOV and bloom makes the biggest difference. You can also improve the shadow quality.

Oh god, don't make me buy this game!

Dude even with this fucking indefensible buggy mess marring the experience... it's still the best zombie game ever. I'm still playing it. Even though the game decides; when to save, what to save, which weapons I apparently don't "need", even though it will spawn you in the middle of a zombie mob two missions back when you reload... I'm still playing it.

Now of course, I would like to punch the developers in the fucking face, taking a dollar out of each one's pocket until I get to $60, but I'm still playing.

Game must be that good. I will quit games for the most ridiculous reasons. This one has legit reasons, and I'm still playing.

VA is hit and miss for me...Im playing as Sam B and his voice is bad in a good way.

I find funny how he accepts the most dire missions and he's just like "Awww YEAA."

10 hours in and no bugs yet and it runs flawlessly on max settings (with a controller at least) ...glad I didnt purchase day 1 though (because of the dev build fiasco).

this game seriously needs to work on joining games and quests. I was in the sewers and decided to join someone's game. Then it completed every single quest I had. So i pretty much lost out on a shit ton of xp/items/money/whatever. Pretty fucking lame.

Yea, out of all the problems the game has, this is my single biggest complaint. My friend joined my game yesterday as we were basically at the same place in the story, and that proceeded to wreak havoc with my quest log. Quests that were active suddenly got completed, quests I had never taken also showed up as active or as completed and some continuous quests (like the champagne one) have completely disappeared from the list. It is also causing scripted events to not trigger because he has done them already. There's an abandoned house I can't enter because there was supposed to be a person standing outside who I was meant to help. Then that house would have been converted into a safe house and side quest hub, but now I can't do that. Even if I try to go there solo, it doesn't work.

For a game that is begging to be played in co-op, they really should have designed it with a little more finesse. Something as simple as letting me duplicate my saves would mean that I could have 2 copies of the same character, and then proceed to play co-op with my friend and if something went wrong (like it did), I could always fall back to the other save and continue normally. Or how about not letting one player's progress affect the other player if he's behind? I'm level 20 right now and I can't join my friends who are playing level 10 and 30 games because of the fear of completely breaking our games. The only way to play with friends is either start from scratch with them and play the entire 30 hour game together, or forget the story and quests completely and make it into a Left 4 Dead style game where you join and slaughter zombies and forget everything else. Why couldn't they have designed this better?

This post sounds overly negative when it really shouldn't. I'm enjoying the crap out of this game... best zombie game I've played and I'm shrugging off and dealing with all the problems the PC version has but this one just really bugs me.

I thought I'd dodged a bullet by playing the 360 version but I've just run into that game-breaking escort mission.

Seriously, who beta-tested that? I don't have "rage" and didn't bring any
molotov's, bombs or bait
(I can always go back right?!). Both my
Katanas
are worn down to nothing.

No matter how fast I kill that horde my escort dies. I can't load a prior save, I can't load an earlier checkpoint--hell I can't even start the chapter over.

I let my Live expire so I can't get through it that way...ugh. What a mess. There is a patch coming to 360, right?

Great OP! I've never played it (yet) but the premise is cool. I love zombies. Although if you do any zombie research you find out that real zombies would most likely be scared to death of water.

They're not big fans of it in Dead Island, since they can't swim.

Anyone have an issue with the game having an audio echo when you play online coop? My GF has almost all my audio echo to her speakers. And no I have no MIC installed or voice chat on either on my end, but somehow she keeps getting the audio echo of whatever I'm doing on her end. Very odd. This is on PC

The support rep I contacted said they were trying to fix that with a patch, but im not sure if that was just an automated reply.

The PS3 saving issues seem to be linked to coop and online visibility. If you sign out of PSN (may not be necessary) and set your online type to 'Singleplayer' and play without coop until it is patched you shouldn't have anymore problems.

Basically the game is only saving if you see a red toxic symbol in the top right. To test this try fast travelling from one area to another. If you don't see the toxic symbol then stop playing as it isn't saving your progress. Also if PSN trophies are not popping up when they should it probably isn't saving.

Doing this has made the game enjoyable again for me. Hopefully this fixes your issues.

Thanks man, guess I'll try after work... so many awesome hours lost :(( twice.

The one thing that was getting me through the idea of playing it again was that coop might work at some point... but I do want to play it still.

If it's a story related mission if you quit or go to the dashboard, it should "reset" the quest, as you have to go back to the quest-giver to restart it. I was trying to think why they did this and then I thought about a scenario in which it would be impossible to complete an escort mission. This way you can repair your weapons and get addition medkits before retrying.

Playing in SP does not fix the saving issue on PS3. And just because you see the autosave symbol does not mean it's actually saving.

In my experience, the only way I've been able to avoid the save bug is to play in LAN mode. So far in LAN the game has kept all my progress. I'm not saying I won't run into the bug, but at this point, I haven't yet. I cannot say the same about SP mode. And there's also (I believe it's a bug) the fact that I get co-op notifications while I'm in SP mode. :/

Those don't happen in LAN.

My advice to those on PS3 who want to solo and not lose progress... play on LAN.

Oh god... please do not tell me that I have to do the hotel completely over again. I was near the end but had to jump off for irl responsibilities... I figured it'd at least start me somewhere in the hotel.

This happened to me twice so far, with Nikoli in Act I and The Nun in Act 2... and it throughly pissed me off. Since then I'm made it my goal to only save and quit after I've completed a major main mission.

Looks like it's valid until end of day today, yeah. I guess that's a solid option, too. Can you manage the game in Steam then, or are you required to use their digital distribution package?

Awesome - thanks. It won't load because internet at the office seems to be slow as SHIT today, so I couldn't get on there to check myself. Looks like that's the best option available right now.

I agree with what he's saying. The combat is especially cheap and shitty, fight 20 zombies at once but you're only allowed to hit one at a time and two blows from a single one will: 1) kill you, or 2) trigger a 30 second animation of your character lying on the ground and then kill you...and then respawn you in the same spot to be killed again.

I seriously wonder if the average gamer is going to be able to play through the game solo, I very much doubt I can do it. I'm getting killed from fights with single zombies now...I wonder what the point of levelling up is when the enemies scale with you? you can never beat them easily.

Wow, really? I'm having an easy time fighting off 4-5 zombies. Kick a few to knock them over, especially when they are coming at you, and then aim for the head with a weapon that isn't completely degraded.

Also... you can have so many molotovs and explosives... keep 3-6 on hand and you can handle pretty much any mob(s).

They're just the recommended values for 16:10 and 16:9 respectively.

Doesn't really matter though. As long as it's not the awful starting point.

Been playing (mostly co-op)on 360 with friends logged 50plus hours and the game has crashed 6 or more times. And some other buggy weirdness nothing game breaking though.

Considering the(lack of) pedigree of the Dev/Publisher within this particular genre, I think they've done a pretty good job. Every bit as reliable as a Bethesda or Obsidian game of this ilk. And they've done something those 2 have not... given me 4 player co-op!

only a patch or 2 away from greatness IMHO
