Her moves look really, really bad to me.

Maybe she'll grow on me over time, but I think, visually, as far as animation and "fitting into DoA," she looks awful.

Welcome to the world of Shadow Warrior, Hiya!, where demons and killer robots run rampant and the only thing that can stop them is Wang, the man, the hero, the legend!
And before we start, put on some proper music to get you through this killer OT. I picked some pieces from the classic game as well as from the recent remake from 2013.
Now you are ready to begin your journey into the fantastic world of Shadow Warrior. This is my first OT I have done by my lonesome so I hope you will enjoy it.
Good luck and have fun :)

CGxfBQq.png

Who is Lo Wang you ask? Well he is a bad enough dude to have stopped a demonic invasion of our realm once already with nothing but his revolver, dual uzis, quad-
barreled shotgun, flamethrower, rocket launcher, high-powered crossbow with explosive bolts and the legendary, ancient slaying sword Nobitsura Kage! Unfortunately after
Lo Wang destroyed the ancients in the shadow Realm all hell broke loose (literally). Now the two worlds collided and demons are a common sight in our realm.

This picture below is actually Earth.

rmFtiL1.png

But Lo Wang wasn't always the legend he is today. Back in the days he was under the employment of Orochi Zilla.
You think that's bad? Well it gets worse, so hold onto your pants.

Under Zilla Lo Wang was a hired gun with an attitude, a lot of money and reputation. He used to have it all, guns, dosh, his own bat cave, but then he fucked up and saved
the world. During this adventure he got into conflict with Zilla which resulted in Wang's resignation. The thing is that Zilla wanted to give the Nobitsura Kage back to Enra,
ruler of Shadow Realm, to enslave the world (Zilla actually believed Enra would keep him around as his adjutant or something, lol). Lo Wang didn't like that idea very much
and after a fierce battle with Zilla, who got augmented by Enra, Lo Wang cut Zilla's arm off. Zilla managed to escape and used his massive wealth and research he has done
on Shadow Realm to build his own empire filled with killer robots, advanced vacuum robots and other kind of robots that you can surely imagine *wink wink*.

LvYc0QY.png

A place with all the demons and shit like ancient demigods, lava rivers, big tentacles (probably), stones defying gravity and severed talking heads. It also looks all
Chinese/Japanese like for some reason. All you need to know is that half of your enemies comes from there.

NVtHsFs.png

That is where the other half of your enemies comes from. Lots of neon lights, robots and cybernetically augmented demons that need a LOT more breathing holes.

Holy pile of dynamite!

You said it! Shadow Warrior 2 is, just like other Shadow Warrior games, a wangtastic FPS game for the ages with guts, blood and epic one liners EVERYWHERE. Shadow
Warrior doesn't focus on shooting all the time but makes melee and integral and fun part of the game. Swords, chainsaws, claws and many many more melee weapons are
introduced in Shadow Warrior 2 just in case you got bored with only rocking the sword for 19 years. Also, you don't have to worry about some stupid two weapons limit, you
can have up to 9 weapons ready on your weapons wheel / keys and the rest are safe in your inventory.

The game still follows a linear story just like the previous games but some of the new or improved features include:

  • side quests
  • loot system
  • tile based map generation
  • hub
  • dozens of new weapons (70 in total)
  • many more spells (including invisibility)
  • COOP action for up to 4 players
  • upgrade system that adds elemental damage to weapons

That sounds wicked sick! What about the loot system?

The loot system works similarly to the ones in Diablo or Borderlands, which means that there are ancient Chinese secrets in the world that drop weapons for Lo Wang to pick
up and use. Some enemies can also drop weapons after a bit of convincing.

Mate, I heard that the maps are procedurally generated, what's up with that?

Well you heard wrong, this isn't No Wang's Sky. The maps are hand crafted like in other linear FPS except that individual sections of the map are used as tiles and have many
variations that can change things like weather or building and enemy placement. The maps will still look organic so you don't have to worry about maps not making sense.

What about the health system? Classic auto regen bullshit?

Nope, you get your classic 100 hp at the start and you can either use your Ki to heal to pick up health kits in the world or from inside of your enemy's guts.

I love the gore in the 2013 version. Is this game's gore as good?

No, I'm sorry to tell you that it isn't...it it actually a LOT BETTER. Now it works like in Metal Gear rising, slicin'n'dicin is accurately calculated in relation to where you hit your
enemies. Developers themselves said that it is possible to write your name into somebody's guts now, if you wish to :)

SwQGafd.gif

What about combat arenas? How vertical are they? Can I jump around like a crazy monkey shooting arrows left and right?

The game now features a lot more verticality. Fall damage has been removed and players can now climb building and jump from rooftop to rooftop to completely blindside
their opponents. Assassination side quests can, for example, be completed extremely quickly by combining Lo Wang's agility and his new sneaking ninpo. Not all maps are
this way though.

I hate those wacky numbers when I hit someone. Can I disable that? Actually can I disable the whole HUD if I want to take some scenic shots?

Yes you can to both. The HUD can be customise and even the FOV can be changed.

xsk3CGQ.png

Shadow Warrior 2 now also features a coop option that allows players to team up and play both the campaign and the side missions together. Coop multiplayer allows
players to customise their characters including gender and weapon and armour skins. Coop on pc is only available through online. It is, however, possible for GOG and
Steam players to play together.

BMIZayL.png

Since the game isn't released yet then pretty much all of the images and videos online are of the older versions of the game so remember that these don't represent the final
game. Once the game releases I will update this section with proper media.

Be sure to check out the original Shadow Warrior and Shadow Warrior 2013 too! The Redux of the original contains all the DLC and the 2013 remake is on 90% discount
quite often on Steam.

There are 6 ancient Chinese secrets somewhere in this OT (5 of them are links and one is hidden in text), and a booby trap. There is one rule though, don't use the quote
function to find them. If you do, you are a scumbag and you know it. The first person who discovers all 6 ancient Chinese secrets and PMs me what they are will get a
multiplayer kunoichi costume dlc steam code :)

Ace Combat is a long running aerial combat game series featuring many modern combat aircraft, both fighters (designed for air-to-air duty) and attackers (air-to-ground). The game does not focus on realism to provide a more entertaining and high-octane action where enemies are purposefully given weak AI to provide the played with many easy targets to destroy (a bit like Dynasty Warriors but with planes), this is further illustrated by the fact that the player is given massive amount of ordnance (over 100 missiles and infinite number of rounds of machine gun ammo) with special weapons being able to engage multiple targets at the same time, blow up entire armies or shoot lasers across the entire map.

The game takes place in a fictional universe called Strangereal, where real aircraft, weapons and tech appears in a fictional world with many real countries having their doubles in this world (OSEA=USA, Belka=Germany, Yuktobania=Russia, Sapin=Spain, etc.). I have this map in huge res (10k by 5,5k) if anybody wants to read city names or something.

lQdOhng.jpg

The story of this game focuses on one of the continents called Usea (on the map above it is on the right) which previously appeared in Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere and Ace Combat 4: Distant Thunder/Shattered Skies.

6J7tDLD.jpg

G07KA4D.jpg

In Ace Combat games, you assume the role of a pilot who is generally male and doesn't speak. During missions, you can switch freely between first and third person camera view. During each mission, you are given clear instructions on what to do. Generally these missions are: eliminate all hostiles, escort allied ground forces, escort civilian or other unarmed planes, intercept bombers, escape an area, fly under the radar to destroy or photograph high-priority targets. Missions have a time limit, but these are generally extremely lenient (an example: a mission can be finished in 10 minutes yet you are given an hour or more). After finishing a mission, the player is given credits in relation to how well s/he performed (ranks go from S, being the highest, to D). These credits can be used to buy new planes or upgrade the ones the player has.

The controls are very simple and adherence to realism is very limited. Planes perform at peak performance at all times regardless of damage (with the only exception being scripted events) and no amount of maneuvering can damage the player or the plane. Also, pilot cannot be hit. Unrealistic maneuvers are a staple of the franchise. Crashing the plane into another one or into ground usually results in an instant death, unless the player activates a rookie mode which helps the player prevent collisions.

Enemies in Ace Combat games are completely brain-dead, much like in Dynasty Warriors. They don't evade, rarely shoot and serve as targets for the player to destroy by dozens. Occasionally a boss plane will appear, which doesn't necessarily have more HP but switches between three AI routines:

  • Aggressive: in this stance the boss will go straight for you (or at least in your general direction) shooting as many weapons as it can
  • Evasive: when you fire a weapon at the boss it will try (to the best of its ability) dodge the shot. Some bosses are almost completely invincible in this mode as they perform ridiculous maneuvers even for Ace Combat games (like Strigon team in Ace Combat 6 or Akula in Assault Horizon) like accelerating from almost zero to supersonic speeds in a second, doing 180° on a dime while going supersonic, etc.
  • Passive: this routine kicks in randomly, sometimes it can take minutes, sometimes after a few seconds. In this stance the enemy plane levels and flies straight at a very moderate speed allowing you to close in and take it down. It will not evade or counter-attack but the duration of this stance is random (can be a few seconds only, mostly it is longer).
Disclaimer: not saying it will 100% be like this in Ace Combat 7 but it has been like this from at least Ace Combat 2 all the way to Infinity with not a single Ace Combat game deviating from this system that I have played.

Every Ace Combat game also has a few fictional/prototype planes that the player encounters and usually is allowed to fly himself later in the game or through NG+. Some of the planes are unlocked naturally as the player progresses through the game, others are by completing the game on certain difficulty, completing a very specific task or shooting down specific enemy planes hidden throughout the game.

CWPvLXT.jpg

The most common weapons featured in Ace Combat games are missiles, guns and special weapons.

Missiles: basic weapons that the player is given an ample supply of to use (usually over a 100). They have very poor tracking and low damage. The player needs to engage the enemy head on or be directly behind it to hit it. Most enemies take 2 or more missiles to take down (helicopters or small ground vehicles generally need only 1).

Guns: machine guns mounted on your plane. Most of the guns in the game are identical but a few are more powerful, for example the Avenger canon on A-10 Thunderbolt II. Aiming and hitting with guns requires a fair bit of practice but the advantage is that they can be used against enemies flying at virtually any angle, provided they fly straight.

Special weapons: these weapons have quite a limited amount of shots compared to standard missiles but they are also significantly better. Depending on the plane they can be for example for fighters: ultra-long range missiles, missiles with better tracking, missiles able to target multiple enemies (like 4 or 6); for attackers it is usually bombs (guided and unguided), long range anti-ground/ship missiles, that sort of thing. A new addition to Ace Combat 7 are laser gun pods, which fire short laser burst like in Star Wars (looks meh but maybe it will be fun).

FiKPDAe.jpg

There are also other special weapons unique to individual aircraft like machine gun pods, laser cannons, super rockets that can target a huge amount of enemies, rail guns, etc.

You're really not missing much. It's a pretty bland costume that just has the Ace logo on her shirt. No where near the same amount of effort was put into as the more recent crossover costumes.

I'm a bit of a completionnist. The fact that I can't get this costume anymore will drive me nuts every time I boot the game and take a look at the Store.

The new character looks ok. Love her cutesy-wutsey fighting stance. lol. Not a big fan of her costumes. At least if she comes to Steam, I can fix that.
The new stage looks ok. Too devoid of life for me to be a big fan of it. It wont be on PC anyway, I suppose.

Yep, they already confirmed it on their facebook page: on PC two weeks later (without the stage obviously) on March 29th, same price as on consoles.

aw sweet. I'll have to buy her then. I hope she has plenty of JF's or difficult to execute moves. I know stuff like that made Honoka and Raidou more fun for me to use.

Nioh is a third person action game for PS4 with emphasis on melee combat and punishing difficulty.

Ranged combat is provided as an option as well as spells, ninja gadgets and a plethora of other items.

The story takes place in a fictional world of 16-17th century Japan where legendary and mythical monsters are commonplace. It is based on an unfinished script from a famous filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.

The player assumes the role of an Englishman named William Adams, who shares similarities with a historical person of the same name.

2AHgtXa.png

14Lg2QF.png

Apart from standard bandits, rogues and other low-life of Japan you get to fight mythical monsters of all shapes and sizes. There is a huge variety of Yokai in Japanese mythology and a number of them is brought to life in Nioh. If you wish to learn more about individual Yokai, I suggest visiting http://yokai.com/.

fe6pUA0.png

The game controls are very simple but allow players to develop their finesse and skill leaving a colossal gap between beginners and masters. Since the game is designed to be challenging the player needs to control not only his opponents and environment but also needs to master the controls to achieve victory. This game just won't hold your hand if you struggle. Either you get good or you go home (and if you already are home then congrats).

The gameplay itself is very straightforward: fight enemies, gain experience and equipment, improve yourself through leveling and getting familiar with the mechanics of the game and progress through the level until you reach the end, which is generally a boss or a gauntlet of enemies.

Weapon classes available in the game are: swords (one in two hands or one in each), axes, spears and a sickle with chain, ranged weapons are bows, rifles and hand cannons.

When wielding melee weapons you can switch between three stances:
AIQK8yo.png
High stance: deals the most damage but is also the slowest, ki is also consumed at a very high rate, dodging and blocking are affected as well.

oGbPkpx.png
Mid stance: the middle ground between high and low stance, higher damage than low stance and faster than high stance.

VcSG1bs.png
Low stance: attacks are fast, consume the least ki but also deal the least damage per attack. Blocking and dodging is the fastest in this stance.

The game primarily requires patience. Enemies deal massive damage and are relentless in their attacks. Thus the player needs to assess the situation, strike with precision and, if needed, disengage quickly. And if you die it's usually because you're too slow to react. So remember:

Change+the+speed+to+15x+you+ll+thank+me+later+_9c6592bd93edf7df4c4ac13fd7ccf837.png

One interesting feature that makes Nioh stand apart from other third person action games is called "Ki Pulse". In Nioh, stamina is ki (which is used for attacks, evading and other activities) and this technique allows replenishment of said ki during combat with a precise press of the block button at the right time. If the Ki Pulse is performed properly then the player can restore a portion of its stamina without significantly slowing his offensive actions.

UnrulySillyImperatorangel.gif

Enemies can be put into a stunned state by depleting their ki. Heavy attacks and some special attacks excel at depleting the enemy's ki. Once the opponent's ki is depleted any attack will stagger the opponent. At this point, summoning a guardian spirit or engaging with maximum ferocity is advisable.

Another unique feature of Nioh is the ability to summon guardian spirits. Each guardian spirit provides different stat boosts when summoned and also provide unique effects simply by having them on stand-by. These guardian spirits can be changed any time the player visits a shrine. Also, the moment they are summoned William's HP/ki bar are replaced with a special power bar that depletes slowly by itself or when William takes damage.

Nioh-GIF-02.gif

Shrines are placed around the level that serve as checkpoints, if William falls in battle he is restored at the last visited shrine. At the shrine a player can sort his equipment, spend points to level up, change his guardian spirit and do other activities. Also, players can summon other players to help them out on missions from shrines.

After leaving a mission the player is returned to a hub menu where a significantly larger amount of services are available than at the shrine. Here the player can pick a new mission or re-play an old one while retaining his equipment and level.

Lastly, the player is able to use onmyo and ninjutsu. Basically onmyo are spells in form of talismans and ninjutsu are special items like smoke pellets or throwing stars. These skill sets can be changed while visiting the shrines.

pDJDCmb.png

Amrita serves as the game's xp system. Every time an enemy is defeated the player is rewarded with amrita that can be exchanged at the shrine to permanently increase William's attributes or, as they are commonly known, stats.

SWGLeN0.png
BODY: increases life, damage with spears and resistance to paralysis and poison
oEMp6kZ.png
HEART: increases ki and damage with swords and bows
2zXdUCu.png
STAMINA: increases life, carryable weight and damage with hand cannons
wjS4t6K.png
STRENGTH: allows you to gain bonuses from weapons and armour sets and also increases damage dealt with axes
gjQfLNL.png
SKILL: allow you to gain bonuses from skill based weapons and also increases the damage death with dual swords and rifles
1ti5lge.png
DEXTERITY: improves the effectiveness of ninjutsu and its capacity
4gZFkQR.png
MAGIC: improves the effectiveness of onmyo and its capacity
VS8WDT9.png
SPIRIT: increases the power of guardian spirits

When improving your stats William gains skill points that can be spent on unlocking new skills, onmyo talismans and ninjutsu items. Each weapon group has it's own skill tree and each skill can drastically change the way you play. Some are more defensive in nature, while others allow players to attack with new, devastating combinations.

A COMPREHENSIVE AND DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE SKILL SYSTEM CAN BE FOUND HERE

7nXxIAX.png

Coop is available quite early in the game. You can only participate with someone in a coop if you yourself have already finished the mission you are trying to help with. That means that two people can't play the same mission without at least one of them having it done already.

Basically the system works like this:

"I need help": go to a shrine, select "summon" (which costs 1 ochoko cup which can be gathered from revenants/player graves) and the game will start searching for another player to join you.

"I want to help": in the mission select screen, highlight the mission you want to help with, press X to select it and then square to "become a visitor". Or you can go to the "starting point" menu and use the option called "torii gate". Here you can either pick "yokai realm with a companion" (in this mode players can revive each other) or "random encounter" (the same as "become a visitor").

"I want to play with a friend": this mode requires players to set the same password so that the matchmaking pairs them together.

A COMPLETE GUIDE AND EXPLANATION CAN BE FOUND HERE

701Y4n5.png

Clan battles is an online component of Nioh which is available once the player unlocks the "hidden teahouse". Here, players can swear allegiance to one of the clans. Each clan provides different benefits to the players and allows them to purchase special equipment, gestures and skins for "honour".

Honour can be gained by defeating revenants/player graves around the game.

By participating in these clan battles, players rank up, thus improving the benefits the clan provides.

A list of all available clans as well as their benefits can be found HERE

jkwksQb.png

A complete comparison can be found in this Eurogamer article. A quick overview, however, is in order.

The game comes with two options: action and movie.

Action settings emphasises performance, while on the other hand movie settings puts emphasis on visual quality.

PS4 CLASSIC:

Action - 60 fps at 720p (resolution increases in less busy scenes up to about 1728x972)

Movie - 30 fps at 1080p (almost never drops)

PS4 PRO:

Action - 60 fps at 1080p (rarely drops as low as 720p)

Movie - 30 fps at 2160p (occasionally drops as low as 1440p)

In general, adaptive resolution is much more significant on the PS4 pro.

One thing that both systems have in common is the fact that loading screens after failure/death are almost non existent, they usually take lees than 5 seconds (so now you can die in record times).

A MESSAGE TO ALL EDF PERSONNEL!

We have confirmed reports of alien sightings in orbit around Earth. For the moment we are unable to determine whether these aliens pose a threat or not, however, all registered EDF personnel must report to their CO without delay. All further orders will be broadcast by regional EDF Command Bunkers, those are: Nagasaki (japan), Alice Springs (Australia), Dubai (UAE), Kinshasa (DRC), Trento (Italy), Colorado Springs (USA) and Puerto Montt (Chile).

oQtfnEE.png

All EDF personnel must understand and remember these basic facts about the EDF:
  • EDF is a third person army corp, we only play from third person and will for the foreseeable future
  • EDF troops are very mobile and responsive (with the exception of the fencers), no cover techniques have been trained, our troops put emphasis on dodging. Also, coupled with the 3rd person camera there is no danger of feeling sick even after thousands upon thousands of rolls.
  • Vast majority of EDF weaponry (including vehicles) has an inbuilt bandanna for infinite ammo. Reloading is still necessary however.
  • EDF troops are chill dudes (and dudettes), never forget that! We like to sing and charge the enemy without a care in the world.
  • EDF troops are hard as nails so we don't take fall damage. Don't be afraid to jump from the tallest mountains and buildings. Try it out yourself!
  • We have (un)confirmed reports that the aliens are actually BUGS, giant enemy frogs, robots and Godzilla wannabees. Lucky for us we got tons of guns, helicopters, planes, naval artillery, precision artillery and giant mechs with which to punch these fake Godzillas in the face!
  • We plan to deploy on 110 missions, so be prepared for a long war, boys and girls, the longest we have ever had (we had a war before??)!
  • we will be deploying underground so pack at least 4 sets of underwear.
  • You will need 19gigs of FreeSpace on your PS4 to fit all this awesomeness in!

Major new additions in EDF5:
  • Each class starts as a semi-civilian with a special armour design to reflect that
  • New enemy classes
  • Each EDF class now has an extra slot for bonus equipment that improves the soldier's performance. For example Rangers will run faster, Wing Divers will store more energy in her reserves, etc.
  • You will pick up weapons for all classes during missions. Picking up duplicates will increase the stats of the weapon up to a certain maximum (once a weapon reaches peak performance it will be marked with a star).
  • Tunnel exits will no longer appear on the battlefield. They are replaced with teleport tethers.

8Luk0cd.png

EDF forces are divided into 4 classes:
  • Rangers
  • Fencers
  • Wing Divers
  • Air Raiders
Each of these classes has a drastically different gameplay style. We will now proceed to delve into the specifics of these classes one by one.

VMf9Sf0.jpg

  • Easiest to play
  • standard 3rd person shooter experience (sans cover shooting)
  • no unnecessary animations, snappy controls all around
  • managed to learn to how to sprint (but you can still roll around like a lunatic)!
  • Can carry a very wide variety of weapons ranging from assault rifles to sniper rifles, rocket and missile launchers, grenade launchers, healing guns, acid guns, flamers etc. etc.

3OuT42u.jpg

  • Big boys with big guns and I cannot tell a lie, those guns really ARE BIG!
  • extremely clunky movement compared to Rangers, still super smooth compared to Red Dead Redemption 2
  • uses jet boosters to move faster across the battlefield
  • can carry oversized weapons which dish out obscene amount of damage if the Fencer is skilled enough to get into a good position to unleash all his ordnance
  • uses both ranged and melee weapons in two sets of two which he can switch on the fly

XC31mWy.jpg

  • By far the most mobile of all EDF troops
  • uses high powered flying suit and high-tech energy weaponry
  • has the least armour
  • her weapons and flying suit use the same energy reserves which recharge periodically; which means you need to balance your jet suit and weapon usage

bALajOM.jpg

  • Hardest class to play
  • requires very high amount of skill and cooperative teammates to perform at 100% efficiency
  • specialises in deployment of vehicles of all sizes including tanks, mechs and helicopters
  • he can also deploy very strong defensive stratagems that heal, protect or improve the firepower of allied units
  • last but not least, Air Raiders have the full might of the EDF's off screen heavy arsenal at their disposal which are, for example, off-shore artillery, high altitude gunships, air strikes, missile artillery and many more

The game is currently only available as a digital download (19 gigs) except for Asian version sold on play-asia.

Now go out there and kill me some alien scum! And don't forget our anthem (to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic):

To save our mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces
We won't cut them any slack
The E.D.F. deploys!

Our soldiers are prepared for any alien threats
The Navy launches ships, the Air Force sends their jets
And nothing can withstand our fixed bayonets
The E.D.F. deploys!

Our forces have now dwindled and we pull back to regroup
The enemy has multiplied and formed a massive group
We better beat these bugs before we're all turned to soup
The E.D.F. deploys!

To take down giant insects who came from outer space
We now head underground for their path we must retrace
And find their giant nest and crush the queen's carapace
The E.D.F. deploys!

The Air Force and the Navy were destroyed or cast about
Scouts, Rangers, Wing-divers have almost been wiped out
Despite all this the infantry will stubbornly hold out
The E.D.F. deploys!

Our friends were all killed yesterday, as were our families
Today we may not make it facing these atrocities
We'll never drop our banner despite our casualties
The E.D.F. deploys!

Two days ago my brother died, next day my lover fell
Today most everyone was killed on that we must not dwell
But we will never leave the field, we'll never say farewell
The E.D.F. deploys!

A legendary hero soon will lead us to glory
Eight years ago he sunk the mothership says history
Tomorrow we will follow this brave soul to victory
The E.D.F. deploys!

They are the meanest, most badass space Indians (as in native Americans) there ever was. They are the elite of the elite, the strongest, bravest and most experienced warriors of the Empire. Their faith is their shield and their fury their sword, nothing can stand before the might of the Deathwing company. They wear the heavies armour known to man but not primarily for protection but to wield insane amount of ordnance. Rapid firing, twin-linked, mini-rocket launchers, huge rotary canons, plasma guns, massive flame throwers, back mounter missile launchers (think downscaled Katyusha artillery) not to mention huge array of melee weapons including power gloves, power swords, chain fists, thunder hammers, lightning claws and many many more. Basically anything that appears even for a micro second in front of them turns to ash, dust or pile of gore, no exceptions.

They are part of a brotherhood called the Dark Angels who mostly wear green with few exceptions one of which is the Deathwing company (the banner on the left is the standard of the Dark Angels and on the right is the standard of the Deatwing company). They used to wear all black but one fateful day, when their recruitment planet was about to fall to the Tyranid menace the bravest of the brave decided to lead a suicidal attack against the Tyranid hive mind commander. But since none of them expected to return alive they painted their armour white to symbolise they are dead men walking. The raid was a success and most of the battle brothers have fallen but a few survived to tell the tale and in honour of the glorious sacrifice of their brothers all Deatwing members painted their armour white.

Space hulks are generally ancient (or not so ancient) ships of varying numbers and size all bunched up together. Some are just single ships lost for a century or two, some are so massive and old that it's hard to see where one ship ends and another begins. Imagine taking 50 huge space ships, crashing them all together and you basically have it. Now, what is inside is what is important. Sometimes they can be empty, ghost ships completely abandoned and lifeless, drifting across the universe unnoticed for thousands of years. But some, especially those trapped in warp (hell) can become twisted beyond all recognition. Have you seen Event Horizon with Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne? They can become living, hellish organisms that devour anything that comes inside of them. But if they don't become trapped in warp and turn into living monsters they might be used by many of the other alien species living in the universe. Orks most commonly or worse by the Tyranids. Tyranids enjoy hitching a ride on these massive junk heaps and use them to travel around the galaxy without being bothered most of the times. Luckily there are those who actually care about the safety of the galaxy and Deathwing are one of them. Deathwing enter these massive monstrosities for varying reasons: destruction and salvage operations being the most common.

It's literally hell. Since space hulks are massive, dark and treacherous fighting enemies on them is a literal suicide...unless you are the most badass space marine company there ever was, is and will be. Enemies can come at you from every direction, from the walls, around every corner, inside every room, nook and cranny. And if we are talking Tyranids then we are talking serious business. The most common tyranid type on space hulks are the genestealers. They are the ninjas of the Tyranid army, dead silent, 100% deadly, lightning fast and never screw around. They go for the head and rip your brains out before you can say "but my 2+ save".

Warriors fighting aboard Space Hulk must cooperate with 100% efficiency or death is assured. Not covering your backs = instant death, not covering your sides = instant death, not coordinating your fire perfectly = instant death. Space hulks are the worst place to fight in so doing any kind of heroics is absolutely out of the question. As you can see below, you make one little mistake (not covering the fucking ceiling) and you are deader than disco.

If you were shitting your pants as you were reading this OT you can rest easy now because the game isn't really as insane as I said. The developers went for a more power fantasy feel so you are almost invincible and enemies fall by the dozens in front of you, now for some bullet points to get the idea across:

  • first person shooter
  • singleplayer and multiplayer options
  • coop play for up to 4 players
  • 4 classes to choose from (medic, trooper, heavy weapons guy and wizard)
  • singleplayer story campaign that can be played in coop
  • very nice graphics and gore
  • large selection of weapons both ranger and melee
  • missions have multiple objectives and the maps are generally pretty large with multiple routes available
  • leveling up during individual missions which unlocks special abilities and new weapons to use
  • runs on Unreal Engine 4
  • if you have played Left 4 Dead then this is very similar

Click on the picture above to see the release trailer. Space Marine wizards always paint their armour blue so he is still a Deatwing (I hope). You can find plenty of beta footage online but here is a link if you want to see some actual gameplay:

Yep. Same price as the characters from Ultimate.
At least she's the last character before DOA6 this time...

edit: whoops, Azuardo faster than me :p

If the trends follow, there will also be a debut pack tat is her + some outfits that they release for her for a bit more. If you're into buying outfits (and face it, most of us are) it's economical.

been trying to get into a 3D fighter, tried TTT2 Wii U but it really didn't click with me

tried the f2p version of this on a whim and surprisingly enjoyed it a whole lot. the systems are really accessible off the bat, the graphics are bright and fun and the IQ / frame rate is solid (playing on PS4.)

so now i have some questions, figured this was a good place to ask:
-good beginner characters to get a feel for the game? been playing Sarah bc of that VF love but i usually don't rock stance chars too long.

-what is everyone's arcade stick set up? i rock a 6 button set up... does this make sense? i like having throw as 2 buttons, but this makes my preferred sidestep command (p+k+h) kind of unwieldy.

p strong p guard-hold
k strong k power blow

-any other tips for a beginner? i'll likely be playing this as a fun, offline romp to unlock stuff while SF V is my more 'serious' fg

thanks!

I have a stick but I mainly play this on pad.

As for good beginner characters, Hitomi and Momiji are really good the start off with as a beginner as is Misty (Kasumi) Tina could be ok but you have to know when to grapple. Hayate is fine too. Rig is also a strong beginner character. Everybody else needs some familiarity. Main characters for a beginner to stay away from is Ayane and her sisters Honoka and Phase 4, Lei Fang Tommy and Lady Kstoute.

tell me if i have this right: is the power blow command different for every character but universally can be pulled off by hitting r1 for any character?

What Shin said.
The powerblow command is usually pretty simple though. R1 is used for tag/sidestep though. L1 is usually the button used for powerblow (since it's doing P+K).

As beginner characters I'd say most are pretty well-rounded.
Just avoid the ones that can be either pretty slow or "weird", like Bass, Akira, Alpha, Phase 4... but I think the best think is to honestly focus a bit on whichever you like too!
The VF characters are actually pretty close to their own game versions. Unlike Shin though, I would say that Momiji is not as easy as she looks, and Tina is easier.

The tutorial is also surprisingly deep, and doing the command challenge (not the combo one yet) is really useful.

The default controls, yes. Depends if you switch them around, like I do ;) I prefer to have all my hit buttons accessible with only my right hand.

1- Hitomi is pretty beginner friendly.
2-
I use that and add 1 for p+k+h which I rarely use. I play mostly on pad tho.

Ahah yeah, obviously! SFIV is probably the only game where I use a custom layout.

My layout on a stick is:
X - throw
Square - punch
Triangle -kick
R1 - hold
L1 - p+K+h

I hold the joystick like a wineglass, it works pretty good for me.

As for a starting character, i used Kasumi in the beginning and then switched to Brad Wong when i got tired of her. Hitomi, Tina, Kasumi and Christie are good starters i think.

Good luck and have fun :)

Real men players go with Hold, Punch, Kick and that's it like the VF basis intended!

It's weird to have a macro for throw, since the ease of pressing more than one button at once is one of the best things about using sticks.
