Dead Rising 2: Case Zero |OT| A Taste of Whats To Come!

Because everything is on a timer, even if you save at some points,it doesn;t really help you,in fact it can mess you over...so you need to restart an earlier save....at least there`s 3 save slots now,not like the...well let`s not get into that now about the first...

I just don`t like the gameplay of this game because of those things...can`t get use to them.
That is the whole point of Dead Rising. You aren't supposed to do everything in 1 run and this encourages re-playability. If you got rid of the timer in Dead Rising, you would lose all the tension and suspense the game is known for.

Exactly so, the tension would be non-existant if time just went by how you dictated, as it is you have no control over it and have to decide how to spend your time in an efficient way.

According to Kotaku, Frank West is confirmed to be in Dead Rising 2. There's a blurry picture of him and Chuck ffighting zombies together on the viral marketing site.

Question is: playable or not?
I figured, but I didn't want it spoiled. :p

Are there any weapon tricks in this yet? I mean, the infinite chainsaws combined with 3 books in the first game made it so much more enjoyable for me. Is there anything like that at all here? :) Sure, it's pretty easy to find nails and baseball bats lying around, but still ^^

Just finished this and now I'm really pumped for the full game. I wasn't too excited before Case 0 came out even though I loved the first one.

Kudos to Capcom for releasing this and I hope more publishers take note and follow suit. Best 400 points I've spent by far.

You have 9 recipe in Case 0.

Spiked Bat - Baseball bat + Box of Nails
Drill Bucket - Drill + Bucket
I.E.D - Propane tank + Box of Nails
Molotov - Newspaper + Whiskey
Air Horn - Traffic Cone + Spray Paint
Beer Hat - Beer + Hard Hat
Boomstick - Shotgun + Pitchfork
Paddle Saw - Chain saw + Paddle
Electric Rake - Leaf Rake + Car Battery

The most usefull one is the Beer hat, who give about 7 shot of beer before breaking. Watch out to dont get sick.
There 2 manual in Case 0
1 to make the items more durable
2 to make food heal more.

Eh....why is the PC version already $20 cheaper than the consoles? That shouldn't scare me off of that version, should it?

No Physical DVD, Case to pay for.
No Shipping.
No Reseller.
Smaller cut than Microsoft or Sony, to distribute on the console.
The fact that PC user are known to pay less and buy more.

There doesn't seem to be anything like that in Case Zero. Then again, there's no real bookstore. The hold alt-fire for the "Boomstick" is infinitely badass. Uses a couple more shots, but the prestige point tradeoff is well worth it.

Unless the PC version is going digital only, your first few points make no sense. Even DVD versions of PC games cost less.

I could have sworn I read an article a while back with Capcom stating the PC version would be either a really limited release or digital download only. Of course I can't find that article now that I need it though. Go figure.

Looks like on the Capcom store they are only selling the digital version. Interesting...

Amazon seems to have a boxed DVD copy for pre-order though..

And you're still completely wrong. It will be limited but that doesn't magically make it DD only.

That's great. The more retail space that DR2 sees the more chance it can sell, which is just fine by me. Sorry to talk out of my ass without double checking first.:D A lot of my confusion is from the capcom store link and the dead rising 2 official site not having a PC version for pre-order. My bad.

It is hard to find any info out about the PC version though. I really want to know how it will be compared to the console versions.

Capcom ports have been really good this gen so far so every one is hoping it will be the same. The PC version is pretty much always the definitive version anyhow so unless you're computer is weak it will still play console version or better most likely.

The hard copy is going for $39.99 on Amazon, and that's not a discount but the LIST price. That's why I'm asking, why is this discounted ahead of time instead of the normal $49?

Plenty of PC releases are $40 these days, its nothing new.

It has full multiplayer and achievement support through GFWL so I can't see exactly what it could be missing. Since its a GFWL title it'll support a 360 controller so I can't really see how they can make it worse than the console release, it takes some real effort to manage that. Even the sloppiest PC ports are still generally the definitive version these days.

Well to be fair, it is not a port from the MT framework like past Capcom games, it's a whole new Blue Castle engine. Hopefully it ends up being great.

Also, my friend went to comic-con and said that they were demoing Dead Rising 2 PC with 3d effects, yet I have heard nothing about that from the gaming press. I would also like to know if there might be a chance of more zombies on screen due to PC's greater available memory.

I just want to know what does the PC version do that consoles aren't doing.

@Brain_Stew, I hope the PC version has controller support. Bioshock 2 is a GFWL game and does not support a 360 controller, the first Bioshock did though.

Well both Dark Void and Bionic Commando performed fantastically on PC as well (they're probably the closest comparison) while having serious performance issues on consoles. They weren't as feature rich but still absolutely the definitive version of the game on any PC with a dual core + 9600GT or better.

So even when working with partners, Capcom still haven't managed to put out a bad PC port this generation and since we know full multiplayer support is in, i really don't know what there is to worry about. Its not as if the engine's performance on the 360 is a particularly high watermark to match, considering just how horrific the performance in Case Zero was.

Edit: I know about Bioshock but that's an FPS title, since this is a genre that absolutely demands the option of a controller then Capcom have no option other than to support the 360 pad or it won't get the GFWL certification. Every PC game from Capcom this generation has supported the 360 pad and its worked flawlessly in all of them, and yes, that includes the titles developed outside of the studio.

I am still skeptical as Dark Void is UE3 which is proven on the PC. GRIN's Diesel engine also saw previous PC releases before Bionic Commando, like GRAW.

The lack of any info regarding the PC version of Dead Rising 2 is really disappointing.

Look, I'm not expecting a fantastic PC port but it doesn't have to be. Even a clusterfuck of a job will still be better than the console version and $20 cheaper, so what's to worry about? We know 360 pad support is in, we know full multiplayer support is in, we know achievements is in, what does it matter if it isn't the most optimised game on the platform? It'll still perform and look better than the 360 release on middling modern PC hardware even if its terribly optimised.

The 360 supporting DirectX and 360 controller support becoming pretty much ubiquitous has meant fucking up the PC version of multiplatform releases has become incredibly difficult and very, very rare. Even the worst of ports are still generally best on the platform through sheer brute force since botched controls are no longer an issue.

Nothing to really worry about other than the lack of information about it. I do have some faith in Capcom that DR2 PC will be just fine.

If they are doing things like 3d effects though or anything else exclusive to the PC version, they really should be getting that information out there.

From what I remember DMC4 and RE5 has modes only on PC, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is the same for DR2.

What I really want to see is cross-platform co-op and terror is reality between PC and 360. That's never going to happen though.

I'm not expecting anything special like that, there'd have been a press release now by one of Capcom's partners touting its support (usually Nvidia). The point is though even without that its still going to be the best version and at 1/3 off, well there's little to complain about really especially since its coming day 1.

Edit: Cross platform support in coop games and titles where a mouse isn't an extreme advantage is something I've been pushing Microsoft on in these recent community chats Ive been doing with them. So I'm definitely in full agreement there and I don't think the door is completely shut on the subject yet, it just needs to be better thought out in future.

As far as I see it, adding cross platform support to something like Dead Rising is just going to benefit players on both platforms due to the bigger community it'll create. No one has an inherant advantage and no platform needs to be gimped in order to balance the game either, everyone wins. It worked fantastically well in Lost Planet: Colonies for instance which would have been completely dead on PC (and possibly 360 as well) if not for the cross platform support. I think the fact that Lost Planet was more suited to a controller than a traditional FPS and relied a lot more on navigating the environment was why cross platform support was a positive in that game whereas it wasn't such a simple win-win scenario in ShadowRun.

Just finished up getting all the achievements which was fun and easy(the way they are suppose to be). Great game and definitely worth the 400 points after sinking so many hours in it. I just wished the people you saved talked instead of having to read what they all say.

Hoping to the PC version turns out good so I can pick it up day one to continue the story.

I beat it today. Was great aside from the motocycle part at the end man the control were awful for that part. Twice I got stuck in some garbage and I couldn't even reverse out of it :lol . Is it possible to do a NG+ with my save since I'm missing some scratch cards. For the 100 000$ achievement and the 1000 kills one, must they be done in the same playthrough?

100,000 achievement can be done with multiple playthroughs but the 1000 kills has to be done in a single playthrough. I suggest using the sniper rifle on top of the gas station by the air conditioning units. Get a couple of those in your inventory and you'll get 1000 in no time.

:lol :lol :lol I don't know if you used the sniper yet but, if you haven't, you are in for a treat. That thing is POWERFUL. Definitely my favorite weapon so far.

I've picked it up but never bothered to use it. I use mostly melee weapon (loved the shotgun + pitchfork one) on zombies and use guns on the boss. Gonna do that tomorrow. I guess it will go quickly if you don't bother to build the bike and rescue everyone. Can I use a completed save file to do this and restart form the beginning? Guess I can since on the leader board some guy have 900 000 pp.

Hey guys, I am late to the party. I bought the game yesterday and just beat Jed and saved 'cause I wanted to watch some football. I read through most of this topic last night but I have a few Qs.

1) Aside from the Zombrex in the pawn shop and the Zombrex in the ambulance by the quarantine zone that is found via cutscene, is there any additional Zombrex anywhere else?

2) I know it has been addressed but what *exactly* is transferred over via save file to DR2? PP, clothes, and money?

3) I've seen you guys mention combining milk + milk or juice + juice.... very dumb question but I guess this is done with the blender? How do I do it just walk up and examine the blender? :lol Don't mock me. :(

Mission Zero is a lot of fun but I am undecided on whether to get DR2 for PC or 360. $20 cheaper and will probably run better on superior master race PC version versus the convenience of playing on my couch and XBL. Choices.

nope but the store doesn't run out of Zombrex. you can buy as much as you can afford.

pass. i know your level does, aside from that i don't know.

you need to have out whatever you want to put in it. so you get out your orange juice and when you walk up to the blender it'll be B to put it in (similar to how you hand food and weapons to survivors).

you just pop in your two food items and then pick up whatever shake it spits out.

PC versions can be played on the couch, and it's a GFWL game, so all achievements go to your gamer score and your friends can see what you're playing and still message you.

however, Case West is going to be 360 exclusive and requires DR2 on 360 to play. that's really the main reason to think about getting it on 360.
me, i'm saving $20 :)

Call me crazy but the load times seemed to have shortened.

Was that what that update did? I was playing it yesterday and got prompted to update. Didn't really notice a decrease in loading times, but unless it was drastically improved, I wouldn't have.

Really? I thought it was going to be a separate stand-alone XBLA game like Case Zero. I have to say I'm really looking forward to the
Chuck-Frank co-op
in Case West. I wish that was in DR2 as well. :/

Aw crap. I pre-ordered the PS3 version, and I knew Case West was exclusive to the 360, but I didn't know you needed the DR2 disc to play Case West. Too late to change the order on Amazon. :(
