Dead Rising 2: Case Zero |OT| A Taste of Whats To Come!

I’m glad to see that this surprised a lot of you guys and that it’s getting a lot of love here.

I downloaded and played Case Zero a bit earlier... and wow, this is a rather substantial downgrade from from the original Dead Rising in terms of visuals, especially considering it's been four years since the first one came out.

It really lacks a whole ton of polish... Tons of texture pop-in, weird graphical glitches, very low framerate, awful, ugly shadows. The textures are super low-res as well. While I was downloading Case Zero I played the first game, and it's crazy how much much better it looks than DR2.

I actually played the original yesterday after not touching it for like two years.....and whilst it does indeed overall look better (the motion blur is a HUGE loss for Dead Rising 2), the mall felt empty.

I don't know, I remembered the game having much more zombies. I suppose Left 4 Dead and Case Zero spoilt me. Another thing I noticed was that not being able to run and gun felt really wrong.

Also.....the character models in the cut-scenes still till this day look fantastic and slaughter Case Zero's! BUT, if you can look past the technical issues, Dead Rising 2 is going to be the better game.

Dead Rising 1 actually gets pretty packed with zombies later in the game. Around Day 1 or 2 it will be pretty empty. But near the end, you will find it much more packed.

Spoilers about Bob's Daughter.

After you beat the psychopath boss, go out and go up bob's roof. He'll tell you that het has found his daughter. This is the only chance you get for rescuing Bob and his daughter. So make sure you assembled the bike by then, if you want to finish the game with the good ending and all survivors saved.
Not necessarily:

This triggers when it gets dark and the cut scene plays (I'm assuming you have to do the other rescues first, but the soonest this will appear is when it turns dark). This is when the mission appears that requires you to bring Zombrex to your daughter. I had one bike part missing (I completely missed the hint about the key) so I just brought Bob and his daughter back to the safehouse as I was on my way there to deliver the Zombrex anyway. Killed the boss, went and got the key, etc. for my last part. I cut it pretty damn close, but yeah, you can do this on your way to the boss fight instead of after

Yeah i did it before the boss fight with 3 mins to spare before 8pm to give Katie her zombrex

I know, but I still remembered the original having more zombies even later in the game. And the survivor A.I is worse than I remember. Thank God they fixed it! Huge plus!

I understand people's frustration with the time limits but it's pretty awesome when you barely pull off a mission. I just barely assembled everything in time and it was pretty rewarding. I was also on the other end of it because like I said, I missed the hint about one of the parts and it was driving me insane trying to find it.

I advise anyone who's either going to play this game, or, anyone who is playing the game and having trouble to read the achievement list.

I was thinking I was just gonna get the full game for Xmas but I'll most likely cash in my Amazon credit for a day one purchase.

Dead Rising is the most fun I've had with a single player game on the 360 to date, so my expectations were pretty high for Case Zero. Luckily, it delivered and I can toss my worries for Dead Rising 2 aside. As soon as I finished CZ, I pre-ordered the sequel.

As for the framerate issues, I didn't have a problem with that at all. I am playing on the new Slim and wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Do you have to build all the combo items in one playthrough? Because I have all the cards but no achievement. Thanks.

No. You might have earned a card from saving a suvivor or beating Jed, but didn't build that yourself.

Hmmm weird, well guess I'll have to try them all because I could have sworn I'd made them all before.

Edit: just made an IED and got it, weird because I know I'd made one before.

OK for the savior achievement, the one where you have to save all the townsfolk, do I have to do all the bike parts too? Because I really don't want to in this playthrough, I'm feeling lazy. Thanks!

The survivors are so much better this time around. I found myself never having to stop and save their asses, they move through the hordes very well now.

Also no, you can save all the survivors and not give Katey her injection and still get the achievement (it unlocks as soon as you save Bob's daughter)

Cool thanks, that frees me up to do fun stuff in between.

Alright guys, I need some help.

I need to get the Leaderboard stats for the game -- I was already set to get them myself, but unfortunately my second account doesn't work if I'm using a different Xbox with my HDD.

I need to have someone go into the game with a second account on their Xbox and get the minimum PP they can. this is usually done by hitting one person with a regular baseball bat at close range -- you'll probably get 25PP for the one hit.

Once you get 25PP, run back inside and save. You should now be on the Leaderboards. If you could tell me the position on the Leaderboards, I would be very grateful.

Got my 200/200 this morning

My 2nd XBLA/PSN title to completely 100 percent. First was Flower...

End of the month can't come soon enough :D

has the developer said anything about the full game having a decent framerate?? case zero looks like it's running in the mid teens to low 20's... definitely makes the game feel sloppy compared to the first.

The mall felt empty? At the beginning of the game it is but the closer you get to the 72 hour mark the place is literally swarming with them, especially the section that has the grocery store in it.

how is your PC? i'm hoping PC fixes the framerate. it's still fun as is though, but I wouldn't expect any large engine differences between case zero and the full dr2.

Used the Sniper Rifle the other day on flat ground...So satisfying to see rows of zombies being blown away because the bullets travel really far. Awesome weapon.

Got ending A and all the achievements except $100,000 and 1000 kills ones, will use a fresh playthough for those.

I thought this was a great little taster for DR2, it wasn't really very long, but lots to do and fun, hyped for the full game now. I've warmed to Chuck too, he's just as dumb and fun as Frank was, even if he hasn't covered wars. :D

"Daddy can fix anything." is the new "I've covered wars."

Probably I'm not the first to notice, but just realized that Chuck's clothing brand is called IJIEK, which is KEIJI (Inafune, I presume) written backwards.

By the end of the game there will be like 5x more zombies in the mall, their number keeps increasing throughout the game.

Also, yeah, DR1 models were nice and they also had a very good skin shader for Frank, not just for cutscenes but ingame also; you won't notice unless you get the camera very close to him though.

I really like this whole $5 dollar-unique-content-extended-demo concept. I'm hoping we'll start seeing more of this. As for the game itself though, it already feels tired and dated. Graphics, HUD, mission timers..... Rental at best.

Well I think the same will happen with DR2. So I'm not worried. About the amount of zombies when the days progress I mean.

I showed this game to my impressionable young niece and nephew (7 and 4 years old, respectively). They loved it although the especially gory cutscenes (like the one that happens at 7pm where it shows zombies eating someone) I had to skip. They were especially engrossed in the scenes with Katey, and they thought it was funny when I crossdressed.

Yeah, I'm a great uncle!

I think Frank will come back in DR2, just wanted to say that. What better way to hide the secret of him coming back for co-op mode?

Has this happened to anyone else? :lol
I entered the bowling alley and looked at the vending machines to find this:

I have no idea how that happened.

played through it three times and got EVERYTHING.

was fun but seemed more like a short demo then something i should have had to pay for.

Hopefully other companies don't follow suit and start charging us for demos now too.
now that everyone knows if they just make the demo carry over to the actual game we all will pay extra for it.

:(

It's not, but if you just focusing on killing zombies on one run without getting distracted the achievement doesn't take that long.

I almost missed it yesterday when trying to get the achievement, I had broken my last sword with a few seconds left, 980-something killed and I was too far from the hunting shop to get new weapons... I managed to grab the heavy wrench near the shelter and frantically clubbed enough zombies before the end of the timer (yes, Kathy died, but I killed 1004 !).

once again, the trial of this XBLA game is larger than the demo the original Dead Rising had.

once again, there is a free demo, bigger than the free demo Dead Rising 1 had.

No joke my friend. I did have some level of parental permission, also I monitored them closely to make sure they didn't start freaking out. They loved it and were talking about it long after we stopped playing. Of course I made sure to impress upon them zombies weren't real and it was all just pretend.
