Dead Rising 3 PC Steam pre-load is live

Is it really supposed to take 2 hours+ to unpack pre-load data? :/

No, but pre-load data is both compressed and encrypted (this is why Steamworks games don't leak prior to release), so it does take longer than simply copying data from one area of the drive to another. Also, in some cases, Steam may download more data while decrypting.

Can't wait to try it! Just decided on a whim to buy it, hope I did the right choice and that my PC can even run it at at least 1080p 30 fps.

If anyone could possibily give me a hint as to how these specs could do with the game, I'd really appreciate it:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.40 GHZ
RAM: 16,0 Go
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Ti OEM

I'm hoping to just lock it at 30FPS, and have fun with it visually.

i7 3770K, GTX680 2GB, 8GB RAM. I hope it's optimized, but early reports seem to suggest otherwise...

The game isn't releasing in Germany so I cant check the Steam store for when it will unlock, its not a problem I have a VPN but I am just wondering if anybody has a clue when it will unlock over here?

Interesting. The unpack time suddenly jumps to 4 days+ when i open a webpage but goes back to normal when i turn it off.

I find it unbelievable though that it is locked at 30fps and you need to unlock the framerate it also no supporting other monitors and that you need to make a file. Yeah i am not buying it because a pc port like this is just lame. After watching TB video it's just even more stupid we have to do this to even make it work.

Hmmm I kinda expected my GTX Titan to play this better at 1080p

Getting about 40-60fps

The game ran at what, 25 fps at 720p on the Xbone's suped up 7790. The titan is very roughly 4x faster than a 7790 (unless I'm looking at the numbers wrong, lulz). Therefore, you running it at over twice the resolution as the xbone and probably close to double the framerate is logically consistent with what you should expect out of your card vs what the xbone did with its hardware.

Think of it like last of us ps4 vs ps3. Sure it's the same game, but it's also running 2x the res and framerate, which takes an enormous amount of extra power to pump out. Your card is a full console generation better than the xbone, and it's performing exactly like it.

Lucikly for me, I don't care for 60fps in this kind of games. As long as it isn't a racing game, a slasher or a fighter, I can play at 30fps just fine.

30fps@3200x1800 and no drops.

GTX 770 4GB
i5 3570@4,0GHz

Thinking about buying it but its banned in Germany, can i just unlock it via VPN or are there any problems (region lock)?

No, Capcom had the game regionlocked for a few days before release but Capcpom being Capcpom they just removed it without further statement. German here, I unlocked it just fine. No issue whatsoever apart from the abysmal performance.
I received it as a gift and activated it without issues, not sure about keys.

Okay, danke :)

Whelp still can't play this game. Just constant long load and then it hangs with a complete computer crash afterwards. Awesome.

How do i change resolution without starting the game? I want to play in windowed mode.

Not sure what you are asking for, but you can use Alt+Enter to go into Window-Mode and resize the window by dragging around the edges. Game apparently doesn't support custom windowed resolutions... :c

Blech, game crashed when I tried setting it to 1920x1080 144hz in gsync mode :/

Guess gsync is probably out for this one.

I see. So there's no way to change the resolution by editing an ini file?

I have to say that the game looks really nice even if it isn't optimised so great. I'm using nvidia 337.50 drivers for a while now with my. 780.

I redownloaded the entire game on my SSD last night. Just tried it again. Same lameass problems. Loading takes forever, so it's definitely not a drive speed issue. Performance feels pretty iffy considering how crappy the game looks. And when I quit the game, it doesn't quit properly! It just crashes! Terrible impression so far. Lol.

Strange how immensely different this game performs for everyone.
You have an acceptable rig for this game and everything fucks up.
I have a laptop that is even below the minimum requirements and it works like a charm (with really the sole exception being the framerate).

Quite interesting.

Whats the cheapest place you can get this at?

Buy 10 TF2 keys from the market and then use them to buy a copy from here. At current prices you're looking at roughly $24.

the VPN is not working with me for some reasons
any PPTP VPN to use ?

FlyVPN should work if TunnelBear isn't. The service has 20-minute session limits, however.

Edit: The game unlocks for the rest of the world in 4.5 hours, so if nothing is working then you don't have long to wait, anyway.

Edit edit: Make sure you're not logged into Steam on your mobile or another system. Concurrent logins will stop Steam from picking up on your IP change.

Does it feel smooth in this game? I got a Swift, worried though because drops below 30 are bad.

In game? Oh yeah. I seem to hover around 40-60 pretty persistently on my 780, max settings at 1080p internal res. I imagine 1440p you'll have to drop some settings though to keep up unless you have a monster set up.

Cutscenes I get the normal sub 30fps shimmering that seems to be the Achilles heel to gsync displays atm, though. The game crashed on me earlier after about an hour and a half of play, but when I get back into it I'm going to try disabling the scatter effect that seems to be the fps hog and see if the cutscenes improve.

The TunnelBear method worked well for me.

- Go into your Download settings in Steam
- Change your location to Japan
- Steam will prompt you to restart it, don't do that yet
- Start TunnelBear
- Set it to Japan
- Turn switch to ON
- Click "OK" on the restart prompt to restart Steam
- After launching it double-click on Dead Rising 3
- It should now unlock, so you can turn TunnelBear OFF again.

It will take some time though (apparently anywhere between 10 to 90 minutes).

My old motherboard ceased to function properly, so I got a new one a couple of days ago. Anyways, while I was at it, I decided to get a copy of Windows 8.1. Well, apparently I'm an idiot and somehow ended up with the 32-bit version of the OS, which means that I won't be able to play this game when it launches in the morning. (Guess I'll call Microsoft as soon as possible and see if I can get this sorted out.) Anyway, really looking forward to playing this -- whenever that may be.
If Win 8.1 is like previous Windows versions your key should be valid for both 32- and 64-bit installs (though not at the same time). You'll still need the files for the 64-bit software though, which I'm guessing should be obtainable through Microsoft's official site in some way. (Try http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only, unless it assumes the same architecture you're visiting the site from).

Man, Capcom's PC ports from last gen were mostly impressive. What happened here? New engine?

Can't say for sure but all of the Dead Rising games weren't exactly good PC ports.
DR2 had issues, DR2:OTR had even more issues. I'm really not surprised that DR3 has issues too. I guess Capcom Vancouver just isn't that experienced with PC ports, I could of course be wrong though.

Capcom Vancouver?

The good PC ports last gen from Capcom were all running on their MT Framework engine developed in Japan. The ports were good due to the quality of the engine.

My 770 runs this game fine at 1080p and 30fps, only thing is I can't get these crashes sorted out no matter what settings I put, so playing the game is frustrating. I'm really hoping for a good day one patch.
