Dead Rising 3 PC Steam pre-load is live

i7 4770k @ 4.3 Ghz
GTX 770 4GB
8GB RAM

Everything maxed out at 1080p gets me around 40-50 fps.

I find it odd that the highest preset still gives you the 720p option that makes everything really blurry.

It's also unfortunate that the option to play at higher than 30fps isn't easier to enable, considering it's not as unstable as they seem to think.

It's been said the achievements won't work until the game is available in all regions.

I'm not sure what the reasoning behind that is, exactly.

Are cards dropping yet?
Achievements have been working for me, and I haven't played long enough to receive any cards yet.

You can finish War and Peace between missions on normal mode, why worry? Nightmare mode is where I spend 99% of my time though, mega man x gun is rad.

Is there a point when texture quality is limited to 1080p? Or does it actually go beyond?

It kind of just upscales it in most cases. Some games can look bad but they're usually fairly dated. Textures can appear somewhat less detailed but its nothing major. Recently played through Far Cry 3 at 4k and the detail was incredible. In particular the trees and just seeing each and every leaf on them.

Holy shit, this is taking a long time to unpack.

Here's hoping it doesn't run like complete ass, I guess.

After a blue screen of death crash last night, the game isn't working for me at all today.

I start the game and nothing happens. deadrising3 is listed in my Task Manager processes, and Steam says I'm playing it, but no application actually launches.

I did a livestream on twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/xecutar/b/565237317

The game ran at 60FPS when there was less than 100 zombies on screen at once. Once it hit that peak, the framerate dropped to honestly, nothing really lower than 30FPS. The game would be nice if it was constantly 60FPS, but the game it's playing atm is perfectly fine for me. Btw, I'd suggest playing this game at 720p render.

He did raise one interesting discussion: does the quantity of zombies and objects justify the game's performance challenges?

looking from the perspective of someone who has put ungodly hours into DR2, yes

the sheer number of zombies and interactables that you can actually interact with are mindblowing

keep in mind that in DR2 generally you could have about 30-50 zombies interactable with at any time and after that it would LODify the rest of the zombies alongside making them look really terrible

i am strictly speaking on FPS dips with large crowds btw, the performance when the streets are pretty clean being sketch is definitely not justifiable

Hmm. Not having any huge problems (aside from minimizing once in a while randomly, need to see if that's my card overheating.

GTX 760, stock I5-3570k, 8 gigs RAM.

Running at 1080p, no idea on the framerate yet. I need to get FRAPS back running.

Man, I really hope they can sort things out with this game, at least to be a little better than where it is at now. Game is so much fun, I'm surprised by how many interiors I've been able to get into so far.

Also, I love how zombies fall out of random building windows haha.

Performance is meh for me. Got an i7 4770K OC'd to 4.2GHz, 16GB RAM and a GTX 770 2GB. Everything's at max except rendering resolution (900p instead of 1080p), DOF (turned off), Shadow Quality (medium quality) and ambient occlusion (turned off). Generally get around 45-60 FPS depending on the amount of shit on screen. Some cutscenes drop to 25fps, the part early on with the dark area and shitloads of zombies brought performance down to mid 30s. Really hope they release a driver update which improves performance.

Out of curiosity how hot does it make your laptop? Do you play with kb/m? Does your area where you put your wrist become incredibly hot?

I'm thinking about going intel/nvidia this time instead of amd/amd again. Two times amd/amd and 2/2 overheat.
It's getting fairly warm, but far from hot.
I'm also playing wih my 360 gamepad.

Also i totally recommend going intel/nvidia.
My regular PC is amd/amd and I hate the random slowdowns and other shit that happens for no apparent reason.
At the very least don't get a amd cpu.

I've only played the Xbox One version, but I did feel the amount (and quality) of zombies, effects, and physics objects going on at any given time, combined with the number of seamless detailed interiors throughout the city, justified the hardware. The game did not at all feel like something I could play a similar form of on 360.

It's entirely possible that this is a sloppy and unoptimized port, I don't know. But I absolutely expect a game like this to require notably beefier hardware than any cross-gen title.

I've played maybe 2 hours now. I have a 780ti, 4670k @ 4.5ghz, 8gb ram. Game has all sliders maxed including AA/blur/AF, at 1080p (rendering at 1080p), vsync OFF.

The vast majority of the game I'm above 60fps, often into the 90s, with dips into the mid 50s when there are tons of zombies/explosions in the game. Also, I can't understand why cutscenes tank the framerate into the 30s-40s when my in-game fps is decent. I've gotten a couple CTDs but that's likely due to me unlocking framerate. It performs well for me, but then again my rig is pretty hefty so I can only imagine how it performs on mid-range PCs.

The thing regarding the cutscene may be caused by it using higher quality models than in-game. I think TB mentioned it in his video.

I was all pumped to play, visit steam, launch at midnight and locked....

THen I read it unlocks sometime in the afternoon for me.

Really Capcom? I wish i still had my VPN service.

Are cards dropping yet?
Cards won't drop until the game's general release status has changed to "released". This wasn't the case in the past, however some developers began using release state overrides to idle for cards and sell them to badge collectors (whom I like to call "badgers") at relatively high prices, so Valve changed the system such that cards only drop once the app is available generally.

.

Use TunnelBear. Free accounts are limited to 500MB, though, so you just have to make sure nothing is downloading while you're connected. Unless Valve's changed something the data decryption process should continue unabated even after you kill the VPN.

Due to the wildly varying frame rate of this game, it might be a good candidate for GSync. Anyone here tried it yet?

I'd try it myself, but don't have the game.

I get similar with my 780 (non ti but OCed) and 4790k.

I really don't see the point of unlocking the framerate at this point. 30fps + motion blur > judder. G-Sync could be great though.

Everything else high / max

The frame rate really suffers in the cutscenes can go Lower than 30fps for me.
Playing, the starting area in doors when there's hordes of zombies in cages the frame rate went as low as 35 , went outside where the plane crashed and the game was stable at 60, strange considering number of zombies here.
Driving section, off course the frame rate dips into the 30's.....
Might try 900p or lower or get a new gpu and CPU.

god this post is depressing

I've been getting an issue when using a controller where when I aim with the Left Trigger the aim will constantly zoom in and out as if I'm mashing the LT. Super annoying and at times it was near unplayable. Is anyone else experiencing this and have a solution?

I figured that's the case. But also considering games that are many years older in similarly open worlds have similar if not better models, it's a bit shocking to see it dip so badly.

What are you going to upgrade that to that you think will matter. Its obviously the game not your rig.

My old motherboard ceased to function properly, so I got a new one a couple of days ago. Anyways, while I was at it, I decided to get a copy of Windows 8.1. Well, apparently I'm an idiot and somehow ended up with the 32-bit version of the OS, which means that I won't be able to play this game when it launches in the morning. (Guess I'll call Microsoft as soon as possible and see if I can get this sorted out.) Anyway, really looking forward to playing this -- whenever that may be.
