Dead Rising screens

this is about the only game right now that would get me excited for revolution.

Imagine chopping down zombies with the rev controller.

The newest clip of this on gametrailers is pretty lame, has extended footage of zombies being chainsawed without satisfying effects. This is from the company that brought us Shadow of Rome; they'd better get an outstanding dismemberment engine in there by the time it's in my hands.

The new lighting does a world of good for this game. Some other devs should take notice. It takes that grocery store picture from "meh" to looking just pseudo-realistic enough to be exciting.
Yeah, I wonder what they are doing with the lighting. It makes some of the environment look photoreal which also makes the poorly textured zombies stand out.

Holy hell, I think I saw about 2 screens of this game before and had zero interest. Interest +1000 now, just from these screens. When is this game coming out again?

The most improved x360 game

kinda sad when this comes from a developer that gave the big FU to the xbox

Times are changing! Japan developers know they need to support Xbox 360!

Nice lighting change and DoF. But the game looks FAR from done, at least I hope it is......

Considering the jump in visual quality from E3 to TGS, and the fact that it does come out until some time next year, I'd say there's plenty of time for continued improvement.

Looks pretty nice as it is.

I'm definately interested in this, but i hope there's some 'hard mode' where 1 zombie bite = death.
This is something all games involving zombies do wrong; heck, everybody knows it only takes one tiny zombie bite to turn into one of them !

I personally would have made the game slightly different. To balance things a little, they could have introduced some energy gauge quickly depleting as you fight with zombies when they've grabbed you to avoid being bitten, make them even slower and as i said, 1 bite = death, to preserve the atmosphere of the movie and increase the 'tension'. That would have turned this into a real zombie simulator ! as it is, it looks more like a beat em up with living deads, which could end up being a little monotonous...then again we don't know anything about the way it's structured.
Btw, Blimblim's movie already shows a few problems with the camera : \

Hope this turns out good, but i think the concept should have deserved longer development times and a bigger effort; I've been dreaming of a videogame based on romero's movie for years.
There was actually a decent spin off on Amiga
This one

Woah, wait, wait, stop the bus. Cut. Time out.

When did this game start looking so cool?

Jesus, don't make me but a 360, don't. I was happy not buying it until I saw this.

this could be THE reason to own 360. Whos with me!??

The animation on the tgs trailer was the absolutely worse crap ever. People move like puppets.

But they're Zombies. Aren't they meant to move like that.

It'd be nice to see more variety in skins for the zombie baddies...a simple randomized set of zombie physical and facial features with a check for re-rolling clones would be nice. If not, no big deal as long as it's not too obvious during gameplay. After all, people never really bitched about the same ten villagers for RE4 or the same five zombies in any of the other RE titles. Hell, the chainsaw guy always looked the same to me despite the fact that you fight and destroy lots of them during the course of the game. And that doesn't even come close to the exact clones for a lot of the other, non-zombie/cultist types in the game. I'm more worried about animation in general...especially if the crowds start animation sets at the exact same time altogether...looking more like perfectly choreographed Thriller dance extras than a chaotic, writhing mass of undead flesh lashing out.

I'm just hoping that the story turns out interesting.

At E3 they promised to explore morality and other serious themes.

Land of the Dead IS one of the best social commentaries in a while (even though very blatant) so I'm hoping they have something like that in Dead Rising too.

After checking the gameplay video at gametrailers, interest in this game went from 100 to 1.

Looks boring as fuck. I was expecting something more along the lines of Dawn of the Dead Remake.

The room full of zombies only attack when the main character is like 6 feet away. Lame.

Exactly. It looks great in stills, but holy fuck @ the seemingly poor AI and botched animations. They would've been better off cutting the number of zombies down by a LOT, making them smarter and more lethal instead. But I guess that would've made the limitations of the controls even more evident...

Maybe they wanted to throw a bit of Shaun of the Dead in to the mix. :lol

Bleh.. Theres plenty of power there to improve AI, Animations & Collisions without cutting zombies. They just gotta stop being lazy and do it (which I know with that many zombies will not be an easy thing).

yeah, it looks MUCH better

it went from this

to this

in 4 months.

gameplay vids made it look boring as hell, but i am pretty sure it was the player's fault
Btw, there's a new gameplay vid up Chez Blimblim i haven't seen linked yet
Here
haven't watched it myself
Interesting comparison...

The difference is actually rather minor, but the new lighting, depth of field, and AA add so much. They didn't even go all the way here. This is exactly why I continue to question why so many other 360 titles seem to be taking an archaic approach to lighting. Lighting can have a massive impact on the overall visual impact. Switching between the HDR and regular lighting modes in Far Cry demonstrates this very well...

They would've been better off cutting the number of zombies down by a LOT, making them smarter and more lethal instead.
I dunno, I think part of the appeal they are shootin for is a massive city under assault by an army of zombies.

disagree on the 'smart' part. They don't need to make zombies smarter at all.
In fact Zombies are not meant to be smart, they are supposed to slowly move towards you and attack when they're near. Completely harmless individually, deadly in large groups.
Then again i thought Dawn of the dead remake was utter garbage compared to the original. Running zombies. Bah !

The still screens are damn impressive, but that trailer is a big letdown. Nasty animation and questionable gameplay.

Still, I love me some Capcom, so I'm hoping it'll get cleaned up on release.

I think the game looks awesome. But I'm really worried about the whole 100 enemies on screen at once. I would really love to see it happen in a lot of games, but I can't really see it working when the game appears to be using 5 character models. It will honestly take away from the fun of the game if I'm killing the exact same zombie every 5th time.
I know it's a lot of work to make everyone look different but I think it's a huge deal.

Almost every game I have played since the atari days have had this problem. Resident Evil. Same few character modles through the end of the game. Halo....same. Ninja Gaiden....same. GTA...same. And yet none of those kept me from enjoying them. This game just does a lot more characters. I'm sure they'll change models as you go through the game. But when you want to have a game like this, no developer is going to sit there and model that many people. You either need to have a "speedpeople" engine for develoeprs or deal with repetitive corpses.

They can still convey that feeling without packing the rooms full of zombies, IMO. RE2&3 pulled this off quite well despite being on inferior hardware...

This game has more of splatter feel to it (see Braindead and the lawn mower in action).

yeah, i think this is a great example of what some postprocessing, shaders (although quite basic) and lightning effects can do.
The difference is not major, meaning assets are the same, characters' models were not touched, geometry is the same. A few textures were redrawn (these pics should be of the same area unless the the 'vegetables' sign appears more than once throughout the game which wouldn't make sense) but that's all.
But while the first pic looks very "current gen" (despite the remarkable number of polys, which however slips almost unnoticed because of IQ) the second one's overall look and visual impact is definately an big improvement over current gen games.
A lot of X360 games still retain this 'current gen' overall look, unfortunately.

I think Dead Rising, Kameo and PD0 are just a few examples of games that looked crap early on, but are being polished up VERY nicely for 360 launch. There will be more... OH YES!

Loooks very nice! I love the lighting and yes the game has a Blue Stinger feel to it which is a good thing for me :D

DCX

What kills it for me is the attacking animations. There's (apparently) only one attack/swing for each weapon; watching the character use a bat looked exactly like GTA, one swing over and over.

It's really odd, marketing-wise, that Capcom doesn't slap the Resident Evil /Biohazard name on this one.

Not really, as the Biohazard name limits a bit--this is much different in tone and style.

LOL

Yes, lol at the people saying "the gameplay looks boring" after watching a shaky cam 20 second clip w/no sound.

This is a totality based thing. You get the feel of the game after playing it for a little while, understanding what you're against. Not by watching a clip for a few seconds, and saying to yourself "he's not juggling any enemies with dual pistols, omg teh boring!11!ZZXxXC!!"

Next, if you would bother to watch an interview, they said in terms of animation, they are only 50% done.

And finally, c'mon guys use some of those brain cells you have...

if the game made such a drastic jump in 4 months...why in the hell do you doubt the game with the 4-5 months it has left before it ships?

Wow. That video.. the graphics are great, but wtf.. worst player/enemy interaction ever. What's with the crappy animation? Bleh.
