Dead Star is one of April's PS+ games

The help section says the Specialists are involved with modifying augments, but I don't see how. Anyone figure that out? It's kind of a bummer to receive Specialists as rewards when the components are more immediate concerns.

Fully upgrading any single ship trait will take some real doing, it seems, let alone multiple. Progress really slows once you hit level 2 or 3.

I'm reviewing this game on PC. Really glad it has crossplay and was on PS+, because otherwise I'd have no one to play with...

We're working on a fleshed out plan but for now, we have two ship expansions planned for the near future that we already mentioned elsewhere. The Kurg (if you played the beta, you'll remember them) and a brand new race, the Quaz'l. Each will come with three new ships and new pilot portraits. There are other things we have in the works but frankly we want to accommodate what the community wants and less about what we think is best. We're a pretty small team (around 10), which allows us to be agile!

A more streamlined co-op experience is a frequently requested item and it's something we'd like to do!

It's a cracking game fella but ridiculously addictive, please patch that !!!! ;)

This is seriously addictive. My hands hurt.

oh yeah, what's the deal with augmenting ships?
there's this recycling thing as well
Augments are permanent, slight enhancements for the various ship traits. Spend the components to acquire them.

If you're not getting the components you really want for a specific upgrade, you can basically trade three in to get a new one. If you do three of the same type, you'll get that type back at one level higher. If you do a mix, you'll get a random type back, which will be leveled one higher than the lowest you traded in.

#surprised

Read about the game involving Metroid Prime devs a few months ago so it was on my radar, despite not knowing what the hell the game even was lol. Then I found out it was a "twin stick shooter MOBA." i love twin stick shooters, but have never played a moba before. I wanted to only play for half an hour, just to give it a shot yesterday, but ended up playing for 4 hours. Game is so goddamn fun.

I like this game and I hate space shooters. Well not hate, but getting tired of so many developer creating them. This one did something right, I really like the objectives of the game.

Don't know where this game came from, but it's the best thing I've played this year.

Augments either buff existing abilities or add new ones. Recycling lets you scrap salvage to make different or better types of components for augmenting.

I'll be singing the praises of this game to my friends. Though I admit I only played the Tutorial so far this morning before work, I have not had a chance to sit down and have an actual match. But from the mechanics I learned from the Tutorial, and watching some youtubes, I get the general idea and I love it.

i'm not even sure this can be qualified as moba

I don't want to call it a Moba either... can you be a moba without Lanes and minions? This game has a Moba inspired upgrade system, but that's about it. You take AI ships with you as squad members, they are not pushing forward and you are carrying them through (from what I gather from the tutorial). Also the maps are procedurally generated, and not something that you can memorize and master.

Hi! One of my friends would play from PC while the rest of us would play from PS4. Right now is it possible to invite him into our squad? From the quick check I did this morning, you can only invite PSN friends, correct?

I cringed a bit at "As an added bonus, the theme you received will remain yours."

Wow, thanks for not disabling it!

I didn't preorder the game though, but this digital ownership thing is beginning to frighten me.

Hopefully when we get "new release" promotion that will help spike Steam users.

Woo I thought it was another space shooter. The one last month bored me to absolute tears. PS+ sub for this month justified.

We really appreciate the kind words! I'll say it again, as it is important to us, we really want to hear what you like and what we can improve upon.

When will they start giving triple A games again?I don't mind indie games now and then but nowadays that's all we get.

this over and over..
I mean, they built ps+ on the success of ps3 ps+ which was incredible..
quality games release and given out for free? thank you!

ps+ on ps4 has been disappointing so far, with just a few exception every now and then..
indie is nice, don't get me wrong, but we're getting months and months of indie-game only...
get a grip..

Played some last night, and I enjoyed it. I did two of the three tutorials before just jumping into a couple of online matches, so forgive me if any of my questions are answered in the final tutorial:

Can I switch ships without needing to die?

Does the main weapon for the mid-sized mining ship (the one the charges up the shot and then shoots out a little orb thing) not damage rocks? In other words, do I have to upgrade that ship to get another weapon in order to mine?

Other than that, I liked just trying out various ships, seeing what I liked, and getting into some dogfights. I actually killed quite a few of the large ships as a small ship because I was fast enough to dodge their weapons and my missiles were long range whereas the big ships' weapons were pretty short.

Yes, if you go back to a base, you can deconstruct by pressing X to bring up the menu, then holding Square. You can also select a different ship at launch by pressing Cricle instead of X. This doesn't change the ticket counter or give you a death.

Yes, the Warden does damage the Ore Asteroids. Total DPS for the Warden is higher if you don't charge the shot. The Warden is not the best of the Raiders for mining. It's abilities are much more lethal in combat (very underrated ship).

Finding a balance between scouts, raiders and frigates is crucial in combat. There is a rock-paper-scissors process to each ship and their counters. Finding them is what makes you a top-tier pilot!

That's extremely helpful. I have been using the Warden almost exclusively and I didn't figure out the DPS point. The plasma trail ability is amazing in confined spaces (and for creating them). It also appears to block some missiles, which is even more amazing.

Pleasedon'tnerf.

The Plasma Trail is also a speed boost for your teammates. The Sabotage Pulse and Defense Probe should not be ignored.

how does augmenting work?
like for example if i augment my core into level 1 from my current level of 0, does it mean when i spawn the ship at the beginning of the game it's already level 2 core as if you've leveled up and chose to upgrade core? seems kinda OP

I think the augments are just a base level boost that makes you a few percentage points better at all times?
Correct.

Augments are the incremental permanent changes you can make to your ships' systems.

Upgrades are the big things you implement in battle.

Just had an epic match. It started out as a standard 10vs10 but then all of sudden a capital ship jumped in and its crew joined the fight turning the match into 10vs10vs5. Total chaos ensued and we almost managed to destroy the capital ship before it got away.

I'm really liking the game so far. Balance is also good in my opinion. Some people complain that the bigger ships are always better but actually the smallest ships can beat them easily in 1vs1. Especially the Razor is really good against bigger foes.

It kills me when I see people focus on mining in the big slow ships, or waste time battling around the opponent's shielded home base. You're not helping!

With a souped up Marksman I can run circles around big ships and wreck them. That's generally what I do. With a speedy ship and some competence, I'm ready to contribute to whatever needs help in the moment.

This game is so damn fun. I can't stop playing it.

Marksman for life. Max missiles and max core.

God I can't wait to try the mode where you warp through different players games as you try to warp to safety. That sounds so crazy.

haven't seen any capital ship yet

How the hell does this game only have like 10 people playing on PC?

This was shown during a big Sony conference, wasn't it?

How are people not more aware of it?

Played some of this after luckily managing to get in a game with my buddy on his PS4.

It's fun, definitely not the game I was expecting. There needs to be some kind of party system for PS4/PC players considering how small the PC userbase is though.

The devs are making them more common next week so hopefully everyone gets to experience them.

That'd be great since that was one of the more interesting concepts I saw while researching this game. It's still fun though. Have played it a bit with friends and having a small squadron in fights is a really great time.

Some things about this game feel a little unbalanced (e.g. grouping up with Justicars and spamming the heal AOE), but other than that I really like this game. A real surprise this month.
Only one mode suits this game well, too.

The game has gotten me hooked for the past few days, but lately it has started to annoy me due to the grindiness for resources and lack of modes. Not to mention playing with randoms is beyond frustrating.

This isnt starcraft people! You dont have to gather resources for your base for the first 5 minutes. Too many playing this as a tdm as well.

As for fixable issues, when a point is under attack , you should slow down the respawn timer at that place. It becomes too easy to defend when you can mash x to respawn indefinitely. Its too hard to turn the tide of the game once the center base has been taken.
No exaggeration, nearly all games , the winner is the one who takes center first. There is no way to recapture it and there is too much teamwork required for randoms.

We significantly increased the rate for Escape Run contracts.

Person who plays frequently will get a couple a week. You only need ONE contract to start a run with 4 other people.

1. Challenge One - We want to see pictures of the first team to SURVIVE an Escape Run

2. Challenge Two - We want to see pictures of the first team to SURVIVE an Escape Run with only three people.

And go!
