Death by Degrees - Gamespot Review

"Death by Degrees tries to be a lot of different things, and it fails at all of them. The adventure is reasonably lengthy, and you'll even unlock a few additional minigame modes, but the game simply isn't worth completing, even if you're the sort of Tekken aficionado that wants to see some character development in Nina. The best thing that can be said about Death by Degrees is that it comes with a playable demo of Tekken 5, though the demo is limited to one player and two characters, making it too short and shallow to make up for Nina's failure."

Heh, not surprised.

So, which two characters are playable in the Tekken 5 Demo? And anybody mind throwing out the console release date for me again? Febuary, right?

This was consistently the empty play area at E3. No one wanted to bother. Game looked like crap, played like crap. I'm not surprised.

Ninja Gaiden, for one...heh.

Not sure if you are serious (I hope you're not), but saying Ninja Gaiden is a spin-off of DOA is like saying Mario Sunshine is a Spin-Off of Super Smash Bros.

Yeah, the Gamespot score sounds about right. I'd rate it a 6/10 myself. The game play isn't bad, however; it's just that the terrible use of camera angles kind of negates it. :/

I also got Nanobreaker but haven't really tried it out yet. The game play seemed pretty cool, but it looked very bland. Kind of reminded me of Project Altered Beast.

It's REALLY disappointing to hear that the Tekken 5 demo is only 1P. BOOOOO Namco. :(

Do you mean next gen? Is so, since when has any new generation of hardware/platform ever eliminated mediocrity?
round, generation, same thing. And if development costs do rise as expected, companies will have to tighten the belts and a game like this wouldn't have lasted in development very long.

Don't be fooled into thinking companies will only fund large budget, high profile titles come next gen. There will always be room for small budget-line products and everything in between the 2 spectrums. Mediocrity will be plentiful across the board when next-gen is in full gear. Mark my words. :D

This game was doomed when they announced it used that right analog stick fighting system. I hate when developers try to be cool like that...fucking Rise to Honor.

So you played Project Altered Beast? What is it like?

I didn't have much of a problem with DbD's use of the analog stick fighting system. It makes it easy for anyone to play the game, but still lets you have a large amount of moves to make use of. Again, it's the camera really messes things up.

I only played a little bit of the game. Despite its mediocre look, the game seemed fun enough. I really need more play time to see how the game really is. From what I could tell, it's a straight-out beat-em-up game, and I got to one part where the screen was FILLED with enemies and there was no slow down, so I'll give Sega points for that.

When you transform, you get access to more combos/moves (which look to have to be purchased somehow?), and one of several different FMV sequence showing the gruesome transformation from man to beast. (really GORY/nasty-looking) It also looks like you keep all your beast forms and can change into any one of them once you've earned them.

I think I'd buy it for a budget price should it get released over here. Right now it's only scheduled for a European release.

Thank you! Someone needed to say it!
