there's something fun about exploring it all fresh again without all the stuff built. seeing the world as this unexplored wilderness of hills and rocks and things i had forgotten about because i spent so long in the postgame. the act of connecting new knots and re-building the world is so gratifying! it is cool that he made the main theme of the game so rewarding to do.

i thought cosplayer was funnier this time through. he looked better in 4k. it makes sense that he would be in a post apocalypse. love the jokes they make. hah this is the first set of deliveries after you meet the cosplayer.

btw if u are in a car and get into a small accident from a drop or something u may see damage but it will probably be nothing to worry about. I was just doing my first delivery to the cosplayer in a truck and jumped and ended up seeing red. later I checked and only had 1% damage and they gave me an S rank, all playing in Very Hard.

Taking on the MULE camp south of the Distribution Center on Very Hard is tough I was blasting away at fools w my bola gun and ran back to my truck only to find that one of them was in it!

I tried chasing it but a bunch of em surrounded me and they knocked me out as I watched all my shit get driven away. Lol

If you can stomach it to get into chapter 3 and still don't like it after that, definitely flush it. There are people who love everything about it, and I think they're crazy. There are people who hate everything about it, and I think they're missing something. I really enjoyed some sections and hated others. It's an extremely unbalanced game (lol @ that pun).

ah....and it crashes before i can continue playing.

this is the 2nd time it has crashed for me on PC . not one crash on PS4 Pro.

yeah thankfully it didn't crash the second time. so i beat him twice.

here's what i got:

- keep an eye on your odradek because BB will tell you when someone is sneaking up behind you.
- aim for headshot on all enemies. with Cliff it seems like there is a delay between him registering hits, so you may be wasting ammo if using an assault rifle. in that case shoot him in spurts.
- after the first phase you need to climb over the hill with the whale on it to find them.
- cryptobiotes are your friends and can instantly refill your blood/health. during a shootout, duck around the corner and pop a crypto.

i was picking up on a lot of things this time around, now that i know the ending ;-)

I found being very aggressive to be the best tactic. Storm ahead, and use a route where you can pick up as much weapons and bloodpacks as possible.

What does the difficulty affect? Does it just ratchet up all the numbers (more damage, faster timefall, stamina drains more, etc)? I'm playing on Hard and haven't died yet (except for the cutscene in the intro). The game is very accommodating if you play it on its terms and go along with the "simulation".

Yeah I, parked it up to charge, but they deteriorate over time which is a bitch. I've gotta say I kind of feel bad for them stealing their stuff when they're hopeless addicts, but not enough not to give them a quick kick in the nuts in case they get any funny ideas about trying to get loose whilst I ransack their encampments for my goddamn resources.

I guess Kojima must be a big fan. Hugh designed Adam Jensen's clothes in Deus Ex: Human revolution and he does a neat line in futuristic looking work wear, though the prices are pretty wallet straining: -

This game left me in awe. It is the most creative AAA game i have played in a very, very long time.
Hideo Kojima is a true auteur, and this is the best work he has done since MGS2.

The game is slow, deliberately slow, frustrating at times, deliberately frustrating at times, fast and easy, then slow and hard, all of this meant to create a contrast between a separated world and a connected one.
It's a risky choice, (ironically) it will divide, test our patience, but it's incredibly bold, ultimately satisfying and memorable for those trully willing to embark on the journey and see it to the very end.

The more you find out, the more possible "roads", "paths" open, and you begin to wonder more and more where will all this lead to, how will all of this connect...And you will only find out at the very end, if you have what it takes to stick with it.

The entire narrative is extraordinarily well planned, with bits and pieces slowly being glued together the more you advance in the story. This is Kojima's greatest strength as a writer: the ability to manipulate the audience, to fool it without saying a single lie, and then completely disarm it when the time comes for everything to "make sense". And boy, this game is a perfect example of this.

The entire Death Stranding event and all elements tied to it, are ultimately just a background for the real, intimate, heartfelt story of family, fatherhood, personal loss, love, life and tragedy.
This is so typical for Hideo Kojima, to create this larger than life, completely outlandish yet somehow completely believable context, and then slowly reduce it all to the most basic, deeply human, deeply personal arc.
There is a persistent ominous feeling throughout the entire game, that slowly but steadily grows in intensity. And this happends so naturally, so under the hood, that is an achievement by itself for such a long, multi-layered narrative.

There are moments where heavy story elements are lightened by a quick, unexpected yet effective, lighthearted moment. Hideo Kojima is the only auteur i know that can make this tonality shifts work so well, it's become a 'Kojima' staple.

I'm not gonna talk much about the graphics, motion capture, performances, they're all really as good as it gets, and then some. There are at least a couple of instances where character performance is beyond anything ever done in gaming. It's almost unbelievable it's all running realtime.

As cliche as it sounds, this truly is one of those gems that you can't be 'told' how amazing it is, you really have to experience it yourself.

It is great to see other people enjoying it so much too. Not a game for everyone, but a great game indeed.

Still unsure, on how to replay it at the moment. Waiting for PS5 or getting it on steam. For me, one of the best Kojima games of this generation.
 
I'm just shy of 40 hours. Still on Ch. 3 - Fragile. I've built most of the road that cuts south, and then I'll start working on the road by the Craftsman (I'm at 5* with him) and the spooky Resident Evil mansion near him. I like taking it slow and doing a lot of standard orders and MULE raids in between main missions. It's an open world that I enjoy traversing, which says a lot because I'm pretty sour on most open world games now. As a plus, those standard orders unlock so many extra things, it's crazy. I'm a courier rank 178. Dunno if that's high or low for this spot in the game. Not really in a hurry anyway.

Got my copy in the mail a couple days ago. I'm about two-thirds of the way through Spider-Man, and I'll probably shift to Death Stranding next. I'm curious to see what my reaction will be. I've never liked the MGS games, at least the ones I've played (not big on stealth, so it wasn't my cup of tea), and my general impression of Kojima was that he was a pretentious writer and surrounded by sycophants. So I've held off for a while. I've also been both drawn to the game -- because of beauty and solemnity of the setting -- and put off by the gameplay, which does not seem very engaging, at least the way it is described. But I understand you have to experience it to really make a judgement, so I want to give it a try. The game certainly has a lot of fans, so obviously there is something there.

Just started this game 2 days ago after picking it up on sale for $20 (PS4 Pro on OLED)..... and it is fucking glorious! I told myself I would never buy a game full price again but man this one deserves it. I 5-starred all the knots as went along but accidentally skipped Port Knot City as I immediately jumped into Central Region after the boss fight so I will have to go back and finish it but man I am enjoying Central Region and the preppers too much.

One QoL I just figured out a bit late was that you can check the contents of any postal-box or base from the map screen. Before I was trying to juggle all the contents in my head and back tracking (probably lost over 10 hours to doing that). If anyone has any more noob QoL tips like that, let me know!

Something I have also been doing at every base is to check the shared box and grab everything (both deliveries and items). Then I will immediately entrust or recycle all of that. I feel this could be automated to some degree.


I do understand the criticisms but its quite clear that you have to enjoy the "chore" to like this game. Its kind of like gardening in real life where you actually have to look forward to all the little steps in the journey vs trying to mass farm and get to the harvest asap. I was telling my wife while playing that I wouldnt mind being an Amazon delivery driver in a post apocalyptic world (obviously besides fighting MULES/BTs, just the delivery aspect) if it was anything like this lol.

Well, just started the game. So far I like it, although I feel like I'm watching a movie, occasionally interrupted by walking. The movie is intriguing so far. Sometimes, I get impatient with the feeling of being trapped in a cutscene.

I love the landscape and the feeling of wandering alone. I prefer games set in natural, open areas, as opposed to city environments. I just came off two months in Spider-Man's New York City, so I am relieved to be "outside" again. The visuals are beautiful, of course.

I've had a prejudice against Kojima in the past, but I'm trying to let that go and give him a fresh chance.

I have to say, I didn't "like" the tally of likes at the end of the first delivery. Who the f*ck cares how many "likes" I got? Is this Facebook the game? How much money did I make? That's what I want to know.

Uh boy, I just discovered that Death Stranding has over 11 hours of cutscenes. And that nearly all of the first two hours are cutscenes.

I haven't watched a movie in years, because I just don't have the patience to sit through a 90 minute movie. I get bored after 20 minutes or so. So, I think I'm probably out. I can't stick with a game that includes 11 hours of movie. That's more movie than I've watched in the past 3 years, combined.

I'm not blaming the game. I've never played a Kojima game before, but I've heard about his penchant for long cutscenes. I just didn't realize how heavy it would be. I should've done a little more homework on the game, before purchasing it. Oh well, I only paid $20, no biggie.

p.s. I know I have the option to skip cutscenes, but I wouldn't want to do that. I value story and characters in games. I don't like operating without context or motivation. So that's not really an option for me.

I don't spend more than a minute a day on it, max. I'm not one of these people who is tethered to their phone -- not even remotely.

I don't have trouble focusing attention when something interests me. I just don't find the vast majority of TV shows or movies interesting. I haven't watched a normal TV show or movie for over 5 years. I try to do it occasionally, but I get restless. I quickly become aware of all the other things I'd rather be doing. It feels like a waste of time.

It's just something I've seen in basically every single person I've grown up with along with some family members, so that's what it sounded like. Everyone used to be able to watch a good TV series, or a movie, or sit down and just enjoy something.

But now, everyone has become so used to short-format internet shit that they can't even watch a movie anymore. Before covid, they wouldn't even go to theaters because they hated that it was socially unaccepted to look down at their phones once every 15 minutes or so to type out a message or click Like on a picture. If we try to watch one together in one of our homes, they see maybe 30% of the movie, have no idea what happened in it, and also couldn't tell you what they had even done on their phones the whole time.

It's like watching everyone turn into a zombie or something.

I trudged through both MULE and BT territory in the timefall, no ladder, my cargo was quickly deteriorating, BB stressed, was cornered into a rock face until I shattered my last grenade at my feet. Then I finally emerged onto a cliff with a sunny, majestic view, the rain let up, and the music swelled as I ran down the green hill to the shimmering lake where my compatriots were waiting for me.

I can't stop thinking about it and I end up listening to the soundtrack while I work. Listening to it as I type this.

This is an atmospheric gamer's dream.

They are long, but I've just come off of months of Yakuza games and I'm in like cutscene heat mode right now :messenger_bicep:

Yeah, finished it not super long ago.. Everytime I logged back in I had heaps of notifications of people using my infrastructure & likes by people, my lost cargo found by others.

It’s truly remarkable how this game works. So solitary and alone, yet connected. I always laughed at the hyperbole that Kojima is a genius, yet here we are.

been coming back to this after getting distracted by new games. so relaxing to go on these solitary travel journeys. just now expanding into the final map area, but i know there is still a ways to go. just unlocked the ziplines which is already making things fun. right now i'm building roads across America!

I pulled this off the backlog a few days ago and just got through chapter 2. It's such an innovative and interesting yet cohesive and well-executed game that I think Kojima actually earned the label of genius here more than he did with Metal Gear.
I just don’t know how he can top this game.

I'm sure he will figure it out... I give major props to whoever wrote this guy a blank check to make a fedex simulator. The tone, the look, the way the mechanics tie in... it's an incredible game. And I know one that is not appreciated across the board.

Lately I've really been enjoying open world games that try something new beyond Ubishit, LA Noire is another fantastic game.

Also the sheer detailed richness of the world with BBs, Chiralium, Q-Pids, voidouts, timefall, beaches, etc. They could easily be seen as ridiculous, yet the game manages to make them convincing and consistent. You end up feeling like you're really living in that reality.

Yeah, we saw MGS2's storyline become completely true as well (with tech companies becoming the GW that controls the flow of information and programs people to believe what is convenient).

Death Standing may not be for everyone. But for those that it clicks, it’s probably a game for the generations. Any gamer that misses out is worse off for it.

Also the sheer detailed richness of the world with BBs, Chiralium, Q-Pids, voidouts, timefall, beaches, etc. They could easily be seen as ridiculous, yet the game manages to make them convincing and consistent. You end up feeling like you're really living in that reality.

yeah plus imo the actors sell the emotions of dealing with this harrowing life and death stuff. the models look great and the voice acting is excellent across the board. i know some people think otherwise but i find some of the story quite moving. i just played Moma's section (carrying her now to be reunited with her twin sister) and the story is desperate and sad but also hopeful. it's weird, bizarre, but that's sci fi. as for Mama her situation is sad but not entirely unrelatable to us if you sub a ghost baby for a real one. the trauma inflicted by war and terrorism on multiple generations is part of her story as well. because Kojima's games deal with these modern themes. the voice acting and camerawork and was very well done.

good show, can't wait to see the next one.

Can’t Git Gud
Any news on the DLC or was it just a rumor?
This is one hell of an amazing game an my gotg probably. Finished it twice on release date on ps4 slim.
Now gearing for pc 4k60 replay, so better performance, graphics and I've heard You can even skip the odradek animations now!

I am wondering how it would be to play the game off-line? Is it even possible to turn online off on steam?
Also - I kinda wanted to to "all lethal" run. How does that work ?
