Whoever at Sony thinks it's a good idea to have mundane and boring sections in their games needs to get fired

I'll admit the pacing could have been better, it really was a bit longer than it needed to be. I don't think it's the colossal problem that people are making it out to be either though.
Well I think it is so there you go.

You’re now the second person on this forum who told me that this flawed game was actually really great if only you ignore huge chunks of it.

Stay away from the latest Monster Hunter if this bothers you. MHW’s story might be the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. Maybe I’m judging it too harshly because I want to get to the good stuff, but that stupid little fucking kid and all these remote idiot tribes are keeping me from constantly fighting. And the only way to get to the meat and potatoes of the game is to go through its god awful story.

Look at this turd. LOOK AT IT!!!!! You will be forced to talk to it all the time.

It haunts me in my dreams.

the best part of uncharted 4 are when you climb around and observe the amazing details.
Slow time is as important as action.
Games need good pacing, slow, fast, strory etc. I don't understand this recent hate towards story and characterization in games. If it's good it only serves to move the game forward.
Look at armored core 6. There are cutscenes and some bad exposition... but without it, the game would be meaningless mission after mission. Games need story

I've not played shitman2

Persona games are basically visual novels/video games. That’d be like complaining about a puzzle game having too many puzzles. However, one could complain there are too many puzzles in Zelda games (and I’ve seen that complaint). Same way I wouldn’t complain about cutscenes in Life is Strange or Until Dawn.

Also, they sometimes do go overboard with the incessant dialogue and repetition. That they explain the metaverse every single time to every new party member is incredibly annoying.

Sony's games are like Blockbuster movies though. I think there's a good balance to be had in the style of Uncharted 2 or Spider-Man 2

Yeah, there will be some down moments, but they are minutes long....not half an hour or an hour.

God of War Ragnarok and UC4 are big offenders, as well as TLOU2

SM1 replays grind to a complete halt the moment I get to an MJ mission. Uncharted 4 is even tough early on at flashback sections and stealth mission. Dad of War also poses a problem unless it’s been multiple years.

Agree 100%

They are boring rhe first time… but the totally destroy the whole experience upon replays - makes me not want to touch the majority of Sonys after the first run through

Recently replayed some game that were BETTER on this playthrough: Metroid Dread and Prime. They have none of this shit

Even Doom Eternal has "downtime", but it's more like walking through areas without combat. If it was purely shootingtcombat for 20 hours straight, it would get boring. Or maybe boring isn't the best word. "Tiring".
I think it has the perfect balance IMO.

I don't mind downtime in games.

I just hate it when it drags on unnecessarily, or when the main character is grinded to a halt.

Sometimes it sounds like sony is the sole purveyor of video games around here.

You don't like them ffs. You already know that. Go try assasin's creed and see if it's just sony or the whole genre.

I don't disagree! Downtime is a tool in the dev's kit.

Contrast how Doom Eternal does downtime versus, say, the hour-long segment with Atreus and that girl farting around in a forest in GOW: Ragnarok. Both are downtime. One suuuuuuuucks.

and usually those are skippable, so any dislike of them is already catered to. I think what OP dislikes about these boring sections is they are mandatory.

Yes and no. For example, I'm playing Trails through Daybreak II currently. Sure, I can skip all the dialogue and exposition, but that defeats the purpose of playing the game. I'm playing the game and devoting 100 hours into this long ass JRPG because I'm invested in the story. So I don't want to skip the dialogue and story exposition.
