Deathsmiles |OT| 360 Cave STG

I really enjoyed Deathsmiles, with the exception of the somewhat clunky menus and interface. It's only $50 right now on Amazon for the LE, so that's pretty awesome.

I really wish Aksys didn't go so crazy with the marketing (again).

I did ask my local games stores and they said they have sold a couple copies, which is cool.

Anyway, if you don't buy this game you're not a hardcore gamer. CAVE is about as hardcore as it gets. Just sayin.

That's how much it costs everywhere. But, yes, it is pretty awesome. :D

Holy shit, no words.

I will read this as I'm interested in a female perspective on scary child rape themes in Japanese gaming. :p

I know it's been standard for a few years, but I really miss the space ship / aircraft / vehicle shmups.

Which side of the LE box contains the game? I haven't opened my copy yet (got it super cheap from a friend). I try to open sealed games along them seam so the plastic stays on. Thanks.

The box opens from the left side,if you hold it horizontal and the faceplate is at the top if you like, with the game in a little enclosure under that...you only have one way to open it is what i`m saying...

That review is pretty good actually,at least it`s not riddled with `OMG Loli pedo porn`stereotypes many think these games are only good for.

Thanks.

Wasn't sure if it was one of those boxes with the little fold out cardboard bit to keep the game from shifting around.

It does have that, under the faceplate area but you can`t really fold it out I think ;)

How am I supposed to beat the final stage without dying every five seconds? I think I've been spoiled by shooters with a slow down mechanic, or the fact that the previous stages in no way prepare you for the 'shit goes crazy!' finale. I wasn't even using bombs on the previous stages. Here I'm running out quickly.

Watch out for enemies that try to trap you with bullet streams. Try to lead them away from where you want to go. Also if you can get to Jitterbug, activate your power (so you do more damage) and then use the lock shot on Jitterbug. If you can beat him without dying you'll get two lives.

Carefull start you power-up mode in critical moments, you will destroy the enemies and recharge at the same time.

360 mode? The difficulty gap between the normal stages and the final stage is only a leap if you're playing the entire game on Rank 1 or 2 prior to that, which is something that only the new modes let you do. If you play Arcade mode where you're forced to play Rank 3 a couple times, you should be a bit more eased into things.

Thank you, thank you, whoever mentioned being able to turn off suicide bullets. Level 1/2 is too easy, but lvl 3 becomes too hard when suicide bullets are added to the equation. Now I can just lvl 3 everything. The extra + final stages are a lot of fun now, without having to dodge all those freaking suicide bullets, those crappers.

One of these days I'll open this box of videogame fun that I paid $50 for, and maybe it'll be before it costs $19.99 at Gamestop.

Don't worry Dave, that new price point is for the non-LE.

Nice! So you're saying keep it in the shrinkwrap then? LOL!

I really love shooters. I need to bust this out soon. My life has just been upside down lately though and I'm either too tired or there's no time.

Oh no.. how are you going to top the leaderboards with that kind of attitude?:D

So, this is old news by now, but this is my first time seeing it and I figured it was worth posting here:

Got talking to Ben from Aksys Games today. Better known as Belisarius on the Aksys Games Forums. I asked him about a possible slowdown patch now that RSG is releasing an un-fucked version of DS. Here's what he had to say.

From Twitter:
We are currently testing a patch to implement those adjustments to the slowdown. Don't have an ETA right now though, unfortunately.

Hopefully it'll be out soon. I'll try and remember to let you know once we get a date.

Someone asked CAVE about a slowdown patch for the NA region on Facebook and this is the response from CAVE:

We are hearing early February from Aksys, but it's best to ask them.

This is awesome.

I had heard about that. Really cool of Cave to listen to the community, and Aksys as well, assuming they have to deal with the XBLM overhead. Can't wait!

Adding slowdown to a game via a patch hehe, who would of thought :lol
Well it isn't unprecedented. The same thing happened with Starfox 64 on Virtual Console. Of course, that wasn't exactly a patch; the speedy version was de-listed and replaced with a version that more closely resembled slowdown from the N64 original.

The slowdown difference makes it a different game, not a worse one. There are a bunch of reasons why arcade accuracy is of the least concern to NA gamers, but whatever.

Bought this quite a while ago but didn't pop it in until this afternoon and have to say it's a really fun game and a really good shmup. It's a shame more people aren't playing it although I'm assuming they may have been turned off completely by the art like I was initially. Really cool game, glad I got it. The bosses are pretty cool looking/fun to play.

WTF, Last level is so much harder than any other. Holy shit.

Try the canyon before saying that lol

If you played all the stages at rank 1, the palace looks much harder than the rest of the game, but if you choose rank 3 in some stages you'll see it's not that different. Go into training mode and play it for a while, it's quite easy to find a safe route through the stage (not optimal for scoring, of course).

Yeah, it can't be said enough. If you're playing 360 mode and just doing all rank 1 (something impossible in the original arcade mode), you're playing a weird-ass version of the game.

Even normally (rank 3 -> final stage) there's a bit of a difficulty jump, but a rank 1 to the final level would be significantly worse.

I am finally sitting down with this game and really wanting to dig into it. I have done a few credit feeding clears on Arcade, usually rank 2-3. What would you guys recommend doing in order to training myself to 1cc this game? I have been using Rose.

Play some runs without continues and see how far you can get, then play the hardest parts in training mode. Plan a route through the stages, your counters are carried over from one stage to the next and this opens up a lot of different strategies. For example, you may want to play a stage at low rank just to max out your item counter and then activate power up mode in another stage to score high or ease your way through a difficult spot (power up mode makes you invincible to enemy contact and the higher firepower lets you quickly dispose of most enemies).

Hopefully I can finally play it next week , mine will come in this kind of box though :

I'm pumped !

Whether it's all a psychological effect or the patch actually made an difference I'm not quite sure.

I do know however that MBL 1.1 has suddenly become a lot more manageable for me.

Son of a bitch, now the DS patch is out? I've got too many god damn games to play. DOJ Black Label has been sucking up my STG time lately, and thankfully I'm very close to 1-ALL'ing it. But I digress!

Gonna load this up and check out the patch later tonight.
