Deep Silver PR guy receives drugged drink at E3 party (intended for a girl)

Reading the stories of Gafers in here who have experienced this personally is really fucking scary.

Also, saddened but not surprised by the skeptics in this thread.

Absolutely disgusting. At an industry event no less. I suppose in any event where there is alcohol, there are opportunists lying in wait. It shouldn't come as any surprise but it is never an easier pill to swallow when you hear about it.

And to people who lash out at real victims or even unintentional victims: saying "shame on you" is an incredible understatement. Fuck off.

As far as I know it's not really possible for people to tell the difference between being "drugged" and simply getting more drunk than they expected due to exhaustion/mood/stress/empty stomach/etc.

Then I have no idea how anyone would intuit who the drugs were for, especially if other people were also drugged.

What does it matter who it was intended for? The point is that there was at least one asshole present who wanted to rape an unconscious woman. If he was instead talking about a bullet grazing him, would you still wonder who the intended victim was?

And you would be wrong.

That mixup occurs with people with no/little drinking experience. It's very easy for someone to know the difference once they know what heavy drinking feels like to them.

where did you get this information because it's ... it's bad information

It's very very different. Specifically for me, whatever I got dosed with gave me prisoner syndrome and I couldn't communicate for help or even move on my own.

I mean the point of drugging someone is to impair their judgment and knock them out. You're not going to get a whole lot of rational decision making done while roofied.

yeah sorry I meant after the fact. Could have been anything in there I wouldn't want to take chances even after feeling 'better'. I guess we have enough threads about people being incredulous about americans not going to see a doctor but still I hope he got checked out.

Rape culture is real, and it's a particular problem in the gaming industry. I mean, look at all of the bans that happened on NeoGAF this week because of perverts--that one guy in particular in the E3 cringe thread, ugh. A woman was wearing a pretty conservative t-shirt and he went on a deranged rant about how she was "exposing" herself.

Are you kidding me? Having illicit drugs in your system is completely different from getting too drunk. They are designed to incapacitate you as soon as possible.

Oh yeah I gotcha. Yeah hopefully, it would be bad to have some delayed reaction to it or something.

Yooooooooo what. The. Fuck!

Follow moms advice: serve your own drinks, don't leave your drink unattended, never accept drinks from someone and don't take opened drinks.

The Wikipedia on "Data Rape Drug" references a 2009 study:

"Results: Of the 97 alleged drink spiking cases included, there were only 9 plausible cases. We did not identify a single case where a sedative drug was likely to have been illegally placed in a drink in a pub or nightclub. "

My sister was drugged when I was a teenager. She was lucky in that it must have happened not long before she'd left the club, and she'd been dropped home that night by a friend before the drug had even kicked in properly. Even by next day she was completely unable to speak, and could barely walk. When I was old enough to go out on my own, her experience certainly made me completely neurotic about keeping an eye on my drinks+anyone I was out with, or buying new ones instead. Hyper-vigilance, such fun.

I remember it being horrifying to watch, I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through that. I'm so sorry.

Do you feel that's an accurate and charitable summary of the section you read?

Have you ever been drunk before? Because that's not really true at all

Can't say I'm surprised. When you've got people using VR to blow and hump each other, and groping girls at events, it's pretty clear you're dealing with a group that's desperate and pathetic.

Makes me sick.

Jeez, wtf?!
And multiple people got drugged? I wonder if it was just one stupid individual drugging as many drinks as possible in hopes of drugging one girl or there were other scumbags attempting the same thing. ugh...really hope they somehow manage to catch whoever was responsible.

'As far as I know'

Have you ever been drunk before? Being on drugs is completely different and you would be able to know something is wrong.

Denial?

The fact that people do this still astounds me. It's disgusting.

I hope everybody's alright.

Well, shitty people doing shitty things doesn't astound me, but it does sour an otherwise wonderful event like E3.

The game industry's filled with shitty people, so it's no surprise.

Milo is one of the worst people on the web. He's like some demon that shows up to feed on darkness and human suffering.
It's almost unimaginable what a self promoting shitbag he is. This week he had a speech in Orlando to smear Muslims and complain about Twitter briefly suspending him.

anyway I don't want to distract from how horrible the actual situation here is but yeah fuck that guy

What is scarier than what happened to this guy is the amount of targets that predators might have successfully drugged at E3... I truly hope that number is zero.

I'd say it's almost certain there were multiple people. I don't know how common this is in the US but in the UK this has been a problem for a long time and was at one time at least disturbingly common. Given the thousands attending, just one person seems a low estimate.
