Def Jam Next Gen pix...

It's annoying that the next-gen leaks are for franchises I don't give a crap about. I'd kill for some proper leaks of DMC4 or MGS4. If it has to be an EA leak, then why can't something about Burnout next-gen come out, or even a new Strike game (one can keep hope).

What on earth is wrong with the models? I see near perfection, hehe. Look at the faces, jewelry, clothing... looks awesome.

So I take it anything less than photo-realistic is "meh" material for the GAF collective?

These next 5 years are going to be awesome to watch.

WOW IT"S LIKE A SIMULATOR FOR BEING BLACK! IM-A GIT ALL CRAZY, KNOW WHAT I MEAN, GANGSTA? TEE-HEE JK! :P BUT SERIOUSLY, I GET TO BE HARDCORE JUST LIKE 50 CENTS OR WHATEVER! It depends on how it moves. Next-gen I want proper clothing movement. Not just on long flowy bits but on everything. I want T-shirts that deform and fold in relation to the body underneath them, creases and folds that form when the character moves. I want every inch of every bit of clothing to give the impression of being a separate entity, not just the baggy bit of trouser flopping about in an unconvincing jello/jelly like way while the rest of it stays static as though 20 cans of starch have been sprayed on it.

BET man, BET.

It's MTV for wiggers and 'black' people

These screens look great IMO. They're scans so you don't get all the detail, but from what I see it's going to look good. Now, about the fighting mechanics...

wtf is wrong with you people that arent impressed by this? i could understand not being interested in the game and design, but graphically, its pretty damn amazing IMO.

time to lower your standards a bit.

Eh, still screens just don't do anything for me anymore. It needs motion.

Peoples ultra high expectations will mar this next gen the entire way through. =/

I think I have finally pin pointed my problem with most pics coming out for Xbox 360. It seems like all the next gen oomph is being put into backgrounds and textures and all the character models are still this gen.

Not really. There's more than one way to be impressed by a screen, other than for its technical prowess. But frankly this could be any number of a dozen different games. It's fairly generic overall, with little artistic flair, which is a step back, imo, given how the previous Def Jam games had a distinctive over the top style that was instantly recognisable. You could tell me it's from a next-gen 50 Cent game and I'd believe you, or it's from True Crime 2, or any other urban free-roaming GTA-a-like and I'd believe you. Hell, could tell me it's a screen from a new 'rough-up-the-competition' mini-game in the next Need for Speed Underground game and I'd believe you.

I actually meant in general, not for this game. ^^ I get your point, but through my readings and observations in the forum...whoa.

this is what's wrong:
DefJam2_9.jpg

compared to:
4414620050816_234625_0_big.jpg

The latter shows a marginal improvement but the first pic would be really damn close if it had better lighting

It's the march towards realism then I guess. The problem is that videogames at the moment seem to be polarising towards two styles. Bright primary colour cartoons or bland grey realism.

Developers are looking increasingly to movies, but it seems to be only for licenses and settings and an excuse to have lots of cutscenes. I think videogames could benefit from taking a more involved approach to other areas of cinematic presentation such as direction (and an end to characters standing around statically, as mere talking heads) and cinematography (capture light and colour so as to be realistic without turning everything into a wall of greys and browns).

you are fucking insane. there is an incredible difference between the two. from the models themselves, to the awesome lighting and shadowing. the textures, which were almost nonexistant before, now looks amazing. look at that denim. to top it all off, the background looks really really good, and looks incredibnly vast as well.

Yeah Mr_Furious, you're insane. There is a substantial difference between the two games. Again, WTF are you expecting?

I'm telling you people...diminishing returns!

Despite the much much higher poly count, the crazy razor sharp textures (not only in the bgs, but look at the jeans you fools!), and far better lighting...people don't see a big improvement.

Razoric claiming otherwise in 3...2...1...

... maybe i'm easy to impress, but even if this is the best next-gen can offer, it is a CRAZY HUGE jump over current gen IMO. looking at these pics, it is hard for me to nitpick any flaws (admittedly, maybe being scans, some flaws are hidden). bigger jump then PSone to ps2 if you ask me.

No, just no. And yes you are easy to impress.

EA is seriously going to own next-gen. they got a ton of money, huge teams, the licenses, and renderware. they've already shown off easily some of (if not) the best looking next-gen games (this, madden and fight night).

like i said, IMO, and i'm sure i'm not alone. i feel sorry for people that arent impressed by this. maybe its time to look into a new hobby?

I see the jump but in regards to something like PS1 to PS2, I wouldn't say that big, we are talking about the first mainstream generation here, the lack of even simple graphics stability from texture filtering, texture warping, or even reaching simple t.v. resolution was the norm for PS1.

I agree. Based on a couple of grainy assed scans, I thought Def Jam 360 looked pretty damned impressive. The character models look CG quality, the T&L is far superior, and we know for a fact it will be 720p. It's a stupid thing to do, to compare a semi-passible scan, to a higher resolution screen grab, possibly taken directly from the console. All I can say to the naysayers is: Wait until the official screens and movies are released, before you pass judgement. I'm not saying that everyone will change their tune, but it will at least make them think twice.

No, I agree, it's incredibly impressive! EA finally got one looking good (and Fight Night).

People who don't find this impressive are either suffering a mental ailment, or are blind.

The screens look nearly pre-rendered. But because of diminishing returns, and the fact some gamers are...well...lack the intelligence and physical capability to see differences between 2 pictures, it's going to be harder and harder to convince gamers that a PS3 game looks better than a 360 game. I'll notice it, many people here will...but many gamers won't.

To the ones calling me insane,

You are too easily impressed. The DJ3 characters lack detail. How can you not see that?

It may look better in motion but from that shot, all I see is rounder models textured with little detail. Maybe there's some crazy cloth physics happening but until I see it in motion...

Who would of thought AKI could produce one of the best looking next gen titles so far?

psst...Aki isn't developing this title. It's being helmed by the Fight Night folks, EA Chicago.

Speaking of which, Fight Night looks really good. I love how they're trying to do away with all onscreen guages.

For the love of Mike.

I think it looks great. Excellent detail, texturing, and most noteably, the shadowing on the face. Very well done, I can't wait to see it in motion.

The characters are lacking detail? Care to point out something, because everything seems pretty damn detailed. I guess the wife beater could use a bit of texture tho, as was mentioned earlier.

This is damn near CG quality stuff. Looks simply incredible.

No. No. No. No, no, no.

:)

Take a look at the jewelry, the rings, the watches...that's detail, isn't it?

Hey, how about the guy in the black shirt, take a look at the bottom-most red stripe. Can you see it's wrinkles? In the second shot, it is wrinkled differently. Obviously, such wrinkles are made apparent from lighting, and that shows you that it's lit very well, it could be just vertex lighting, but still that's an insane amount of detail.

Still not enough? How about the thread dangling from that guy's white shirt?

If that's not enough detail, then there is not enough words to describe how appalled I am at anyone who doesn't consider this impressive or "next gen".

No Aki? Wha.... What the fuck are EA doing?

THQ GET AKI BACK NOW YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKERS.

I assume the scans have been taken down. Either that or I'm a retard. Any hints where I could find them?

EDIT: Nevermind.
