Hearing that the mechs' design are just ripped from every other Hollywood robot really killed my hype for this. :\
Where'd you hear that? Do they kind of look like gundams or something?

Yes, I designed the robot (Jaeger Conn-Pods) head interiors - the physical sets. Do look for Macross references! I tried to inject as much Japanese Anime sensibilities as I could get away with anyways! Unfortunately, the exteriors were already conceptualized before production started and all the LA concept artists seem to come out of the same school of rendering so everything looks like every other American designed robot. Plus its ILM doing the visual effects, so we've got a bit of that "Transformers" vibe going on - but much better ;-)
Then there is no point. No, I mean they wouldn't look like Gundams, they'd look more like the mechs from the Matrix or Avatar or something. In other words, real robots instead of super robots.
I expected something closer to a Sentai mech ...
Ugh, if ILM shits up this film with their generic Transformers CGI Robot shit I'm gonna be so pissed.
They do? Why do the designs of Battleship, Transformers and Avengers look so similar than? You do know ILM just renders whatever the directors want, right? They don't make the designs, they just create the CG based on the designs supplied to them.
Fuck no.The robots in Real Steel looked pretty anime-ish. Something like that but a little bit more serious-ish wouldn't be too bad.

Looks like some GI Joe shit.
Show something at SDCC please!
That's the first thing I thought of. I don't think they can tell that story in a single movie, though.I wonder why I didn't notice this move before! The premise sounds fantastic. Also, the plot summary reminds me - indeed - of Evangelion, which I just started watching, after GAF brought it up. Love the whole idea and concept of Evangelion.
But how come there is so little known about this movie project? Not even a teaser trailer as far as I can tell. I hope the movie release isn't getting delayed.
The robots are real machines rather than movie machines - gorgeous and functional at the same time. Each of the robots, when they step in, has their own personality. One has a huge spiky mace made of iron, and another has a giant battleaxe. You don't go, 'I wonder what his fighting style is?' You immediately understand what his fight style is!"
Guillermo actually went to his official fansite and clarified that quote about the spiky mace and giant battleaxe. He says, "Alas, the battle axe and spiked mace are misplaced quotes (my damn accent, I'm sure) I wont clear more for fear of spoilers- but the weapons are both melee and ammo. Anyway- The "cutlery" we have is pretty cool."
"We had a Tokyo scene that we shot here in Toronto. We had several Hong Kong scenes and a few scenes in Australia, through the television. We briefly see the kaiju take over San Francisco. The whole Pacific Rim needs a sense of danger."
"We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view."

WB have a three hour presentation. I'm sure they'll find time for Pacific Rim.
Is he saying there's a first person sequence? Because that sounds amazing for this. I need more of that in my life ever since Kick-Ass.
First-person or just a long shot, that sounds awesome.

I'm not really a fan of del Toro. Thought the first Hellboy was mediocre, didn't see the second, and hated Pan's Labyrinth. But I like what I'm hearing about this movie.
Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and Marvel Studios are readying a marathon of presentations for tentpoles that include "Man of Steel," "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "Pacific Rim," and "Iron Man 3," that will all take place July 14 in the San Diego Convention Center's Hall H -- the facility's largest presentation room that seats 6,000.
