Demon's Souls |OT| Power was granted, so the world could be mended

I've always felt 4-2 was one of the most sadistic areas FromSoft ever made. Strong melee enemies, strong magic enemies, several enemies that pelt you from a distance while trying to get by, and cliffs everywhere. There's only two ways to get through that place: painfully slowly and carefully or break-neck speedrun fast. No in-between.

I find the Dark Silver Shield makes the area much easier, primarily because it 100% blocks the giant lasers. I would doubt too many people run through 5-3 before 4-2 though.

Man, I'm having serious issues picking the build I want to go for. I decided to go mage originally, but I'm not having fun with this one, I feel like I need to get up in some faces. Currently deciding if I want to reroll as high DEX bow + fast weapon character, or a polearm/spear based STR/FAI hybrid. On one hand, I really like the free aim that bow allows for, but on the other hand I really want to use the Large Sword of Moonlight again.

Thoughts GAF?
Who says you have to play a mage that doesn't melee? I like the BATTLE-Mage, myself. Besides, if you get the Talisman of Beasts you can do both miracles and magic with it. It is actually STRONGER when you have faith and magic at the same level and it also starts outperforming the insanity catalyst at about 30/30.

Bottom line, Large Sword of Moonlight takes 24 faith. Not a huge deal. The Lava bow only requires 14 str and 16 dex and hits HARD. You can always get your magic and or faith up there and then start adding some vitality and dex or strength even. That's the beauty of this game. Play it how YOU want!

Goddam Maneaters.

The boss itself doesn’t seem all too impossible but that fucking red mage on the stairs is doing my head in.

The mage is best despatched with either magic or arrows. Melee is dead risky, given how easy you can fall off on the right. Do you have good long range attacks? Soul Ray does it.

You should get summons quite easily at the archstone.

I figured heavy arrows initially since that’s the only ranged thing I have, and took out the base mages in 3-1 but this red one is super strong

Yes, he’s a bitch. His aggro range is limited though. You can hold off from him down the stairs a bit, wait for him to turn his back on you, then get in heavy attacks, before backing off again when he turns to spam the green lighting and soul rays at you. Slow, but pretty safe.

Died my first death. Second archstone. My game was stuttering like crazy. Thought that switching to fidelity mode and back could fix it. I had a similar issue with spiderman.
When I came back from the menu a red phantom was right next to me and killed me before I could react. Nice.

bought the hide miracle, that helps somewhat. He still does spot me when right next to him so I need to kill him but at least he doesn’t see me

I’ve gotten so close to taking down the False King. Literally one shot away several times, but I keep getting greedy. Several of those deaths ended with a soul suck. Dude has sapped 3 soul levels at this point!

The black phantoms are easy to sneak up on and backstab if you use the graverobber's ring.....just sayin'.

Yay! Got platinum!
Had to modify a bit the offline guide I used for the ps3 version years ago because of no duping and different trophies (plus the 2 online trophies).
If anyone needs a simplified step-by-step guide I can post it here.

for my 2nd run i did a faith build, i wanted to try out the Moonlight sword. best decision i made. that sword rules! unblockable and does tons of magic damage. it tears through the Latria enemies even Maneater. you can have your magic and melee together.

also, these miracles... Second Chance? damn, Demon's has Sekiro mechanics in it!

God fucking damnit! I need a PS5. I miss Demon’s man and I don’t want to play it on my PS3 again. It’s my favorite souls game together with bloodborne. Hopefully around March/April their on the shelves but I am afraid it won’t.

Live from NeoGAF, it's Friday Night!
Nothing. Turn console on and launch Demon's Souls. Get stuck on splash screen 75% of the time. Reboot and launch again and it works. Then I can close and reopen as many times as I want until I turn the console off again.
Realy weird.

I modified wikidot PS3 platinum guide for the PS5 remake.

If anyone wants to try it, here it is:
DEMON’S SOULS (mostly) OFFLINE PLATINUM GUIDE (with tons of save scumming)

PART I – ONLINE TROPHIES (and 1 offline trophy)
1. Create a Royalty character

2. Do 1-1 , collect Thief’s Ring, (optional) Cling Ring

3. Go to 3-1
  1. (optional) collect Wooden Catalyst & Ring of Magical Sharpness
  2. Get to the ballista (at low level you can kill the Mind Flayers with 5 or 6 casts of Soul Arrow, with the Thief Ring they lose interest in you if you run away after each cast, or you can run by them), backup your save, roll by the arrows for a trophy (restore your save if you fail), when you are behind the ballista walk up the stairs with your shield up until you see the red phantom, if you keep a certain distance from him he keeps shooting at you with a crossbow, just move to the side and cast Soul Arrow every time and get the Black Eye Stone when he dies.
4. Now it’s time to do some online MP for 2 trophies. Go to 1-2 and invade until you manage to kill a player. Then help a player kill the boss (harder than it sounds… they all die to the dragon fire, it might be easier to get all the way up to the fog gate and put your sign there).

PART II – OFFLINE TROPHIES
Create a Royalty character with the Providential Ring as starting gift. I recommend collecting as many Stones of Ephemeral Eyes as you can, you are going to need 20+ of them , and I recommend making a backup of your save at every boss gate, to save you the time of having to run back there if you die or in case you screw up a trophy requirement (like hitting a clone of the Fool’s Idol by accident).

1-1
  1. Collect Cling Ring, Thief's Ring, Jade Hair Ornament ( give to Stockpile Thomas for a Ring of Herculean Strength ) & Lead Demon's Soul
  2. Rescue and protect Ostrava
  3. Kill Phalanx
  4. In the Nexus, say YES to the Monumental
  5. Suicide in 2-1

3-1
  1. Collect Wooden Catalyst and Ring of Magical Sharpness (go back to Nexus)

4-1
  1. Collect Crescent Falchion+1 (go back to Nexus)
2-1
  1. Collect Ring of Poison Resistance, Kris Blade (use it off-hand to boost magic power), Official’s Leggings & Official’s Gloves
  2. Turn on the elevator to Blacksmith Ed
  3. Kill Armored Spider
  4. Suicide in 2-1
2-2
  1. Collect Hands of God, Ring of Disease Resistance, Ring of Flame Resistance, Official’s Clothes & Searing Demon's Soul
  2. Free Patches the Hyena
  3. Kill Flamelurker
  4. Suicide in 2-1, and since you are in 2-1, give the Searing Soul to Ed (you might have to talk with him a couple of times)
2-3
  1. Collect Master's Ring, Dragon Demon's Soul
  2. Kill Dragon God with the Hands of God (sooooooo annoying if you don’t have the stats to use them)
  3. Suicide in 2-1
3-1
  1. Collect Clever Rat's Ring, Doll Demon's Soul
  2. Free Sage Freke
  3. Kill Fool's Idol without hitting any of her clones (the worshippers are always facing the real one and the real one shoots a bigger Soul Ray than the others).
  4. In the Nexus trade the Doll Demon’s Soul with Sage Freke for the Soul Ray spell
  5. Suicide in 2-1
3-2
  1. Collect Ring of Avarice, Gold Mask, Mixed Demon's Soul
  2. Free & Kill Yurt the Silent Chief
  3. Kill Maneater
  4. Suicide in 2-1
3-3
  1. Collect Yellow Demon's Soul
  2. Kill Old Monk
  3. Suicide in 2-1 (world 2 should be Pure Black now)

3-2
  1. World 3 tendency now is Pure White, Go to the top of the first tower where the chain dropped, pick up a key
3-1
  1. Free Rydell using the Key, Collect Dull Rat's Ring
1-2
  1. Collect Ring of Gash Resistance, Iron Demon's Soul
  2. Rescue and protect Ostrava
  3. Kill Tower Knight without killing any archer (you should be more than powerful enough to do this easily now)
  4. In the Nexus trade the Iron Demon’s Soul with Sage Freke for the Warding spell
  5. Suicide in 3-2
4-1
  1. Collect Regenerator's Ring, Graverobber's Ring, Talisman of God, Grey Demon's Soul, Swollen Demon's Soul
  2. Free Graverobber Blige
  3. Kill Vanguard
  4. Kill Adjudicator without knocking him down (Soul Ray his head, easy!)
  5. Suicide in 3-2
4-2
  1. Collect Ronin's Ring
  2. Free Saint Urbain & Patches the Hyena
  3. Kill Old Hero (he is blind, just cast soul ray when he is away and slowly move to side behind the pillar when he gets close, keep doing this until he is dead)
  4. Suicide in 3-2
4-3
  1. Collect Storm Demon's Soul
  2. Kill Storm King
  3. Suicide in 3-2

4-1
  1. World 4 tendency should be Pure White now, talk to Satsuki

4-2
  1. Collect the sword Makoto, don’t send it to storage, don’t equip it!

4-1
  1. Show Makoto to Satsuki, he will attack you , kill him (no effect on character tendency, don’t worry)
5-1
  1. Collect Ring of Magical Dullness, Wriggling Demon's Soul
  2. Kill Leechmonger
  3. Suicide in 3-2 in Human form three times, you need to use 2 Stones of Ephemeral Eyes

3-2
  1. World 3 tendency should be Pure Black now (read the note about suiciding at the start in the next section), collect the Sodden Ring, it will be very usefull in 5-2
5-2
  1. Collect Cat's Ring, Eroded Demon's Soul
  2. Kill Dirty Colossus
  3. Suicide in 4-2
5-3
  1. Collect Ring of Sincere Prayer, Pureblood Demon's Soul

  2. Kill Maiden Astraea without killing Garl Vinland (easy to do from the right with a bow and arrows, kill all the worshippers first, they will attack you as soon as you start damaging her)
  3. Suicide in 4-2

5-1
  1. World 5 tendency should be Pure White, collect Istarelle
1-3
  1. Collect Official's Cap, Iron Ring of Keys, Silver Demon's Soul.
  2. Free & protect Ostrava
  3. Collect Bloody Key, Ring of the Accursed, Ring of Magical Nature
  4. Free Biorr, Free Yuria
  5. Kill Penetrator with Biorr help. I recommend using Flame Toss instead of Soul Ray, Biorr can easily get hit by Soul Ray if he is too close to the boss and if Biorr dies you will very likely screw up your only chance of getting the Ally’s Ring.
  6. Suicide in 4-2

Pure Black World Events & Getting Pure White Character Tendency
Note: When suiciding, the world tendency only refreshes after warping or dying, so if you suicided the mentioned times and the tendency doesn’t seem to be Pure black, just use the archstone to warp to where you are to refresh it.
1-1

Suicide in human form 7 times
Kill BP Miralda.

2-1
Farm the Fat Official at the top of the elevator for a Gold Coin (ignore the Primeval Demon at the bottom! DON’T KILL IT or you can’t do the next step without dying in human form 3 or 4 times again)

2-2
Kill BP Scirvir.

3-1
Kill BP Lord Rydell.

4-2
Suicide in Human form 4 times
Farm for one Pure Bladestone

4-1
Kill BP Satsuki.

Go to Sparkly and trade a Gold Mask for a Colorless Demon Soul, a Talisman of God for a Colorless Demon Soul, a Gold Coin for a Ring of Uneven Scales and a Pure Bladestone for a Ring of Longevity.

5-2
Suicide in Human Form 7 times

Now you have 2 options depending on how many Stones of Ephemeral Eyes you have left (you can buy them from the Filthy Woman in 5-2 for 20k each, but she only sells one until you die in human form again and she is in a horrible place to go just for that. You can also buy 3 from Patches for 30k each or you can farm them from the giant Abominations in 5-1 and 5-2 or from the Plague Babies in the pit of 5-3

You have less than 4 stones left
Backup your save, kill the Primeval demon before the first fog gate on the left, then kill BP Selen after the fog gate on the right.
You can’t screw it up! If you die to Selen the tendency will change because you killed the Primeval demon and she won’t be there when you spawn again so restore the save and keep trying.

You have 4 stones or more
Kill BP Selen, go to 2-1 and suicide in human form 3 times, (this Primeval demon usually spawns one death before Pure Black, if it isn’t there after using the archstone after the last suicide, then suicide a 4th time in human form), Kill the Primeval Demon.

You should now have Pure White Character Tendency, go to the Nexus and talk to the Monumental, he will give you the Ally’s Ring.

Learning all Miracles
Backup your save, go to Saint Urbain and learn all the miracles for the trophy, restore your save

Learning some Spells
Go to Sage Freke and learn all the Spells

Going to the dark side
Backup your save!
You are going to get Pure Black Character Tendency. Kill the Crestfallen Warrior in the Nexus, the vendor's in 1-3, 2-1, 3-1, & 4-2. That should be enough. Kill the 5-2 vendor if Mephistopheles did not appear after those. Head up to the middle level of the Nexus and you meet her. She gives you assassination tasks. Remember that you have to talk to her after every assassination and be handed the next task to actually receive the individual rewards. You should also be careful to kill each of these NPCs in the Nexus (except Ostrava)- she may not give you the next assassination if you kill them in the worlds they're found in.
  1. Kill Saint Urbain. Collect Ring of Devout Prayer.
  2. Kill Sage Freke
  3. Kill Patches the Hyena
  4. Kill Biorr. Collect Ring of Great Strength
  5. Go to 1-4, kill Ostrava WITHOUT talking to him!
  6. Kill Yuria. Collect Foe's Ring.
  7. Kill Mephistopheles. She attacks you after you collect the Foe's Ring.
  8. Go to 1-1, kill Old King Doran in the Mausoleum, get Eternal’s Warrior Ring (and the ring trophy!!)
Restore your save. (Note: You could continue after this without restoring and doing the needed backtraking, but then your NG+ would be harder because you would start with world 1 leaning to black tendency and with Pure Black Character Tendency, if you don’t want to restore your save ignore the next 1-4/1-1 step.

1-4
  1. Talk to Ostrava and Collect the Mausoleum Key.
  2. Do not kill the final boss yet. After you did all the above, return back to the Nexus, head to 1-1.
  3. Go to the Masoleum, talk to Old King Doran. Attack him until he says it’s enough and collect the Demonbrandt.

1-4
  1. Kill False King Allant and collect the False King Demon's Soul
Below The Nexus
  1. Kill King Allant
  2. Collect Soulbrandt
Warp back to the Nexus straight after you collect the sword. Either use a Shard of Archstone, Nexial Binding, Evacuate or even quitting and loading the game works. Take Soulbrandt & Demonbrandt to Blacksmith Ed and forge the Northern Regalia.

Backup your save!

Warp back to Below The Nexus, kill The Maiden in Black.

Restore your save

Warp back to Below The Nexus, walk away from The Maiden in Black.

New Game +

You don’t need to collect anything besides the bosses souls and rescuing Yuria.
So speedrun through world 1 (except 1-4), 2, 3 and 5
Get all spells from Yuria for the final trophy!!

If you don’t like to save scum, use this guide:

DEMON’S SOULS (mostly) OFFLINE PLATINUM GUIDE (without save scumming)

finally defeated Old King Allant and went with the nonviolent ending this time. i immediately went into NG+ and started playing all over again, died a few times to some scrubs but kept my souls every time, made it to Phalanx and my Moonlight sword utterly melted him and his buddies, by then i had saved up around 180k souls.

then went back to the nexus to level up. first i spoke to the monumental, then i purposefully killed myself to get into Soul form.

then i accidentally killed myself like a doofus in the nexus fucking up the walk on the way back up to get those 180k souls.

bye bye 180k souls.

(this is where having played many Souls games and having pretty much this happen over and over again prepares you to deal w loss. i ragequit, but i didn't get mad at all. i just laughed.)

I made "pure mage" as I have done in all souls games (never played melee)

Feels harder than any souls game, mainly because there are so narrow spaces and some annoying enemies + I dont have many spells yet, just spamming fire + soul arrow.

30 int+magic and had 10 vitality (other stats on mage base), now added 4 to vitality so I dont die in every single hit. Still most boss fights are 1-2 hits = death. KIlled maybe 6 bosses now, just exploring stuff in random order as it is my first time on demons souls and I try not to read too much of guides.

Maps are definetly more "anxiety inducing", like "I wanna get the fuck out of this sad place" kind of feeling.

Gotta get that stupid huge monks hat for more damage, then I think that my mage is pretty hard hitting glass cannon.

I just cast
death cloud on Doran and I’m writing this post as he dies.

NOT EVEN ASHAMED A LITTLE BIT.
I used Poison cloud, I would fought him fairly but the guy has waaay too much health and basically can one shot me.

This is why I like the actual boss fights more than NPC fights like this.

Boss fights have proper attack pattern that way can take advantage of but NPC fights are just PVP fights with bots and with ridiculous stats.

Finally, I think I'm on track to beat a Souls game. Finished the first area of each world.

One exploit I've been using though:

Quitting and saving before every boss then uploading the save to the cloud.

If I lose, I re-download it. Saves a lot of backtracking and I don't use up my healing items either.

I don't know if this works for dying at bosses, specifically, but you can save scum by simply closing the game and returning to the PS5 home screen the moment you die. As long as you do it before the screen fades to black, you should be fine.

NG+ is so hard! all my OP weapons are barely doing anything, its like NG all over again. magic isn't even a cheap option anymore.

if you aim to do 100% i suggest getting the Black Phantoms during NG as everything is more difficult the more you play.

Get yourself the northern regalia. Even in NG++ common enemies are 1/2 shot and bosses are easy too.

After my grinding issues for bladestone, I tried again earlier tonight and got 2 pure ones plus enough chunks to get my secret dagger to +5. I feel like I can finally continue my run now haha

Was I supposed to get a soul from the maiden? I beat the knight, and went up to her, caught the plague(!?), and took something from her. There isn't a soul in my inventory though.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid.

Goddam Maneaters.

The boss itself doesn’t seem all too impossible but that fucking red mage on the stairs is doing my head in.
LIke others said back stab, but I would add that if you do it at the right angle (it turns as you apprach as it hears you at the last minute) you can kick it off the stairs ...feels good although you dont get the drop LOL.
. Second Chance? damn, Demon's has Sekiro mechanics in it!
LOL...I get what you were saying...i.e. that Demons has stood the test of time and they still use some of the original ideas in other games.....but so many people whoa re playing demons for the first time seem to get confused that other games have DEMONS mechanics in them not the other way around . Demons was the orginal folks! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

finally defeated Old King Allant and went with the nonviolent ending this time. i immediately went into NG+ and started playing all over again,

bye bye 180k souls.

(this is where having played many Souls games and having pretty much this happen over and over again prepares you to deal w loss. i ragequit, but i didn't get mad at all. i just laughed.)
Happened to me also...so instead of pouting and going to easier levesl I did adjudicator skip first thing, 3 shot adjudicator with hyper mode and started farming the reaper and skelly right away with ring of avarice and silver bracelets on...got the souls back in 20 minutes. 25K souls per run (would have took less time but I cast my blue stone each time just in case there were other level 90 characters there..no luck. I guess it was 4am in my draw area as well lol.

Make sure to upgrade the Kris blade to +5 and if you relaly want to be a glass cannon consider hyper mode with clever rats ring and morion blade in off hand instead of Kris. Here is Hyper mode taking down Phalanx in NG+.

For sure chese for cheese is the only way to do Doran, no one has the patience to sit there and fight one on one. Hyper mode might work better without fire magic as his armour is the best fre resist in the game, but still went down faster than most would have to do I think.
Heading into the tower, any tips?

It's amazing how much I have forgotten lol.

Beat 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 4-1 so far
I love the tower. One of my favourite atmospheres in any game. Advice? Go slow, watch your step and dont stand in front of the mindflayers...ever. Only approach them from behind. THief ring is your friend.

Managed to beat Maneater, thankfully.

Thieve’s ring and a bit of levelling allowed me to mash quick attack on the red mage to deplete all the energy, and Thieve’s ring made Maneater much, much easier.

Cleared 4-2 boss on first go. Now battling the 1-3 knight, seems this will be another long one:, here Thieve’s ring does nothing :D

Ah really? Thanks man, I'll give it a try.

I put 1-3 down earlier. Maybe I'm overleveled (~55?) with my pure DEX build, but that boss fight was surprisingly easy. I died a couple times in the level itself, though.

I think the Maneaters are my next target. That, or go back and finish 4-2. If my COD addiction wasn't so strong right now, I'd probably be in NG+ by now.

Getting close to be done a lot faster than I thought. After playing the most recent ones I'm really noticing how Demons Souls boss battles are less difficult and gimmicky than newer versions and I'm not dying that much playing.

I had this plan to be maxing out weapons and grind for stones until the end of december if needed but looks like I'll be done well before that.

I think I'd like this Maneaters fight more if it wasn't so glitchy. Their animations are so broken and they just fall off the ledge and get caught on shit constantly.

Doing this with a dagger is a bitch.

Have to say, I’m kinda with you on this. I found all bosses extremely easy, especially with a magic and melee combo. First timed most of them, and I am by no means a great Souls player, just someone who’s played and beaten every other game at least twice.

This might sound like sacrilege, but maybe Bluepoint should have tweaked some of the bosses to bring them more up to modern From Software levels.

Can i make weapons from bosses'souls in this one? for now i only have the magician who can teach me stuff using these souls but no weapons, the guy in the forge doesn't have the option to do it.

yeah some of them. You need to give the boss soul from flamelurker to the 2nd smith. Then you need the correct base weapon leveled up to the correct level to combine with the soul. Bit of a PITA really. Guides help.

it's alot more convoluted then later games. You gotta go to Blacksmith Ed and give him the soul from Red Hot Demon's Soul from Flamelurker. From there you'll be able to craft from certain boss souls. I would suggest a guide for the combinations for the weapons as each requires a different base weapon and some have to be leveled up to a specific level.
