Demon's Souls Slayers . . I’m Going Blind Here.

Captain Hero

The Spoiler Soldier
I played Bloodborne and I really enjoyed the game, yes it gave me headache but it's fun and challenging. Now let's talk about DS. Is there something I should know about before jumping into the game?. Should I read about the lore before going there? And if there are tips I'll appreciate it. Is there any similarities between Bloodborne and Demon Souls?

Never played the game, so I'm going blind here.

The only thing I can really tell you, because I think you should figure it out yourself for the full experience, is that it's less focused on staying offensive/agressive than Bloodborne. Definitely possible, but not the main focus.

Just go for it, don't search anything.

Just play it! I would love to experience the whole game again without knowing stuff. It's best way to play the Souls series!

If you enjoyed Bloodborne then you'll have no problem with Demon's Souls, as both titles are pretty similar in the sense that they are both Miyazaki games (same game design) and both have a hub area from where you go to different regions of the world.

And no, don't read about lore stuff or look out for tips, everything you need to know about the game you'll learn it along the way.

If you want us to give you tips how can you still be "blind"?

Just play the game, read item descriptions and you will be fine. You'll not do everything of course and there will be tons of stuff you will not understand but this is part of the genuine experience.

Beat the game then come ask us again anything you want for your 2nd playthrough.

Take 5min to research/learn the Tendency system, and explore every corner!
After doing 1-1 a lot of new areas open, you don't have to do them in order, if an area is too hard, try another one and return later.
Don't forget to return to the Nexus after every boss to store items (assuming Carry load still exists)

My Demons Soul platinum trophy is the one and only trophy I'm proud that I got. It took me several play throughs over a period of three years but I finally got it. Great game, great great game.

The only thing I'm afraid is that after all this years the game results too easy. Go blind and enjoy the experience and soak in the world. Its amazing. Edit: you guys that didn't play it. I'm jealous I wish I coul go fresh into it again.

I believe it is better to go without hints.

About BB and DS... the gameplay is very different... DS is slower with focus wait block and attack at the right time... more a chess game.

BB is more action focused with fast dodge and parry taking the initiative to attack the enemy.

I haven't played it either but I saw someone say when you think you should attack you should actually defend.

Seems like a lot of people here are also saying something similar about being more defensive and methodical with the combat.

Apparently magic helps a lot too.

Demon's Souls is probably the least "Focus on offense" of the Souls games. But you definitely can, it's just a lot more punishing. I'm probably going for a Knight or Mage build first then a Dex build.

Demon's Souls is the blueprint, so expect slower, more methodical combat. Expect magic that is actually viable. Expect maybe more difficulty due to you having to mange your weight and the game being much slower and more punishing for mistake made.

Demon's souls is not a continous world either like Bloodborne or the Dark Souls games. It's a hub based game. So there different monuments within the nexus that represent different areas of the game and you just go to the corresponding monument. You unlock later stages of that level as you go along but can do the levels in an order that represent some freedom. Think of the monuments like Chalice Dungeons. Except they aren't randomized, their actual levels. The weapons and items you get may divert you to a certain paths to make the game's content a bit more doable as you progress.

In Demon's souls you're using plants and herbs to regain health that you can find and farm for. I don't believe you get the equivalent of blood vials or flasks like in BB or Dark Souls. Being dead in Demon's Souls means a health nerf, but the inability to summon or be invaded.

The two games are very different.

When this game released on PS3, nobody had a f$&@ing clue what they were in store for. And now that Bloodborne and Sekiro have been released, we've been reconditioned to the point that DeS will be tough again. Even if you beat it way back when.

I really appreciate everything you said, but the reason I ask about tips or hints it wasn't because I want help to play the game but it was for the clarity I seek for a smooth walkthrough when it comes to story or some hidden advices when it comes to the build. As you said I must go blind even with story or builds and I'll do that.

Whatever you do, just don't go into it thinking it's in any way like Bloodborne. Demon's Souls is a methodical game that rewards patience. If you're after a fast hack and slash with lots of hectic gameplay, just don't buy it. Go pick up Sekiro.

Yeah. Go in blind. Demon's Souls story is as obtuse as the rest of them, but it's definitely worth experiencing it blind first time, before you replay, and spend hours watching Vaatividya.

Dude you're scaring me...they haven't talked about this at all?

Ok this is promising
To be fair, I'm not the best person to ask. I'm not getting a PS5 at launch, as I played DS to death on PS3 for hundreds of hours, so I haven't really been paying attention.

I have to assume that if there were any confusion about the online aspect being in the game you'd be inundated with outrage threads.

Right. Yea the site says PS+ required for online play and that online play is optional. It's weird they don't mention the multiplayer aspect. No screenshots or videos I've seen show the players summoning another player or being invaded. Given that it's bluepoint, they do take some creative freedom with some traversal mechanics.

To be clear I'm not having any luck finding a PS5 either. however if I were to get one at launch, it would be for this game.

I'm excited to see the differences between the original and the new one. Loved the original, but never beat it. I would recommend you just enjoy the experience and read the notes people leave behind in the world. This was one of my favorite aspects of the game, very original at the time.

DS has the maiden in black, which makes it superior to all other souls games

... so the world might be mended

Given how hard Sony are pushing all the new integration features of the Ps5 UI - most notably the multiplayer, community stuff - there is absolutely no fucking way Demon's Souls won't feature its full multiplayer component. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's likely to be much greater than in the original game, given how much more advanced the Ps5 is. Expect it to be very easy to be summoned into other worlds for jolly co-op or invasions.

When i first played i thought every level was linear, and you should finish it before going to the next. Nope, discover the world as you like, and kill crystal lizards.

it's hard to say because we don't know what has changed from the original. does it still have world tendency, character tendency, are there limits put on healing items like Bloodborne? was magic nerfed?

Thanks everyone for your replies I really appreciate it. I'm so excited about starting the nextgen with a soul game.

OP was it so hard to write Demon's Souls REMAKE in the title? Also isn't it a bit too early to ask about a Remake that no one has played yet?

When you find yourself in a prison-like place, resist the temptation to open every cell to grab items...

I'm having Maneaters flashbacks already.... Grrrrrrrrr

I would be absolutely floored if blue point somehow made the world continuous like Dark Souls, but I know I'm asking too much.
