The links below should help you. Basically, anything is going to progress you up to 265. Past that is where it can get tricky. & by anything, I mean literally anything - strikes, lost sectors, public events (be sure to make them heroic if possible). Just do what you enjoy.
Rule of thumb is to AVOID any activities that have a "powerful engram" as the reward. Those scale past the soft cap (265), so you will want hold off on those until you are at/past 265, or do them right before reset (reset is every Tuesday) regardless of your PL.

Yeah, i kinda wished i had done the same because those blue drops were getting rarer as i got close to the 240s and at times it felt like an eternity before i got a decent drop.
That said, i had heard from several folks how 259-265 was a grind and i didnt want to put myself through that after last year's terrible 250-260 grind to get raid ready.
i also never grinded anything like i had to during the last three years of Destiny. I did adventures and loot caves on every planet and still had several adventures left before i hit 259.
The real issue is going from 270-280 IMO. I am doing all four exotic quests at the moment but other than that there is really no way to level up. the mods are locked at 280 so all of the hundreds of mods in my inventory cant be traded in for legendary mods until 280. exotics no longer drop like they used to, but then again i didnt know about the bonus xp and loot tokens until last night. i just wish there were legendary adventures that gave better loot than 265. There is zero reason to run strikes, do public missions, loot caves, adventures and crucible after 265. unless of course you run them with the buff to see if an exotic drops. it feels very much like vanilla destiny instead of the great smart loot system introduced in the April Update last year.
A simple solution would have been to add something like weekly or even daily bounties to the game. do five adventures on every planet and get a guaranteed legendary engram over your light level. do flashpoints on every planet instead of just one. add heroic challenges to strikes that guarantee higher light level loot. right now, i dont know why anyone would go and do public missions after hitting 265 and doing flashpoint for the week.

She gives you tokens that you can then in for engrams like everyone else. Not exactly sure of what's in the engrams, but I know the gear sets you start the game off with are in them. You probably get shaders & mods as well.

Man, 260 is a wall if you don't say screw it and just use the "powerful gear" milestones. At this point, it seems none of the blues I get are 260+ yet, meaning I have to just farm for purple gear and hope it is for the slot I need.

Ugh this sucks, this was my weekend to play but the Irma knocked out my power and Internet and now everyone is gonna be way ahead of me. Only at 255 light, gonna be a while before I can tackle the raid or even the nightfall for dat rat king...

I'm really enjoying the wealth of activities once you finish the primary campaign. I'm hoping I can comfortably just enjoy the content without too much grinding and be able to start the raid next week (only LL 235 now but saving all my tokens/turn ins).

Agreed. Clan rewards and tokens. Can't inspect those engrams but you could conceivably get the whole set without ever doing the whole raid (or any if the clan rewards contain it all).
Assuming the prestige raid will have its own set and that will have to be earned.

Personally I think that raid gear scaling and not being any different to regular gear already devalues it anyway.
Everything that I saw drop in there does look amazing though.

Gross exaggeration because you were killed (and I don't even use the mida these days).
I really enjoy it. Lots of people annoyed at the difficulty of the mechanics.

So? Outside of epeen waving, does it even matter in the end? A big problem with a lot of MMO's is tier gating the population, as not everyone can spare a few hours to raid/do high level stuff, and yet, those players do want to play with their friends/etc and enjoy the game.
At Least D2 lets the more casual players / people who work/ have kids/etc still partially keep up.
And Raiders still get better compensated, as they get multiple bites at the apple gear wise, while a non raider gets one a week.
When I get a chance, I'll give my thoughts on the raid. I'd like to finish it though before giving more concrete opinions.
I like what Bungie is trying to do with this raid. You can be level 300 and have a hard as hell time with it so far due to the mechanics.

Yes, once that activity is completed your clan gets the reward.
Clans really could have been capped at like 50 players because we finished the 100k cap before the maintenance outage this week, which was before most of NA and EU actually play. There is no real incentive for larger clans, so they could keep small clans relevant. Catch-22 for sure.

The raid clan reward is not gear from the raid, only a powerful gear engram from Hawthorne. If you want gear from the raid, you have to do the raid.

anyone else getting a black screen after loading back to the tower? ps4. I can still use Options and look at my inventory/logout.
This is a known bug. Go to character select or something and reload.
Might as well send the full gear set to your postmaster then.
If you give it time, you should zone in. Or you can just restart the game, which always fixes it.
I said it before, but honestly, I probably wouldn't raid with someone who didn't have a mic. There's a big need for communication. In other raids, you can pretty much get by w/o a mic as long as some folks did have a mic, but in this raid, I think it's pretty hard to do that, at least until it's on farm status.
