The thing is theres hardly that much spread between the "pellets", even at long range they pretty much all land in the cross-hair.

Case in point:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RnNmQLgOLU

Guy is practically sniping with it. Also the rate of fire & ammo are insane.

stuff like this is why this game is going to suck in pvp. what they need to do, and i know this isnt halo, is to make it more of a arena shooter and remove all this crap. also just imagine how much of a shitfest iron banner is going to be when people with their insanely powered guns are duking it out.

its sad that the creaters of some of the best multiplayer experiences are doing this to their game

So would I be wrong to assume the longevity of Destiny will be in the competitive multiplayer department and not so much the PVE "raiding" or "strike" hopping?

Do we have any indication or idea what end game will be like yet?

I've played a good 8 hours or so of Destiny so far and there is a lot here I like but I'm not a PvP player in the least and my interest in day 1 Destiny is starting to wane.

the longevity will defo not come from pvp imo, its too imbalanced and people will grow tired of it. the game shines in pve when played with a team

The ships do look cool, but it may be best to save your money. I hear upgrading your weapons and armors will end up being costly (if you continually upgrade everything you have).

Saved me from a in-game impulse buy lol

Going around the internet, it's surprising seeing the reactions to the Beta. You either love it or not, is the consensus I've read.

I'm actually super excited to see how the iron banner actually plays out. seems like it will be fun.

Iron Banner has some advantages though:
Now Fusion Rifles/Snipers/Shotguns 1-hit kill ONLY if their Attack gets through your Defense, which means if you have really good Defense, you'll take much less damage
Level 1 Auto Rifle is now actually worse than a Level 8 Auto Rifle

Not many people I've come across have changed ship so far in the beta. Saw a few in the alpha. I changed mine to a fancy one and have seen a couple of others with mine but that's it. I just changed my emblem to some cat thing :D

Some impressions (Ps3):

- The biggest, superfluous and probably only complaint I have to give about this game is the fact that you can't change colors on your gear. They made a big show of how much customization goes into the way your character looks, and then on PVE and PVP all characters looks the same. I was on a match on Venus and for a second four players were camping on a control point: four titans, all red and white.

- What strikes me about Destiny is how much isn't immediate in terms of impact, and yet the more I play it the more I like the way it looks, feels, and sounds. I can't get enough of this game.
I'm going to seriously food-binge once this beta is over XD

- Soundtrack is pure awesomo.

- Still on the fence about what version I'm going to get. I'm playing on Ps3 and I also pre-ordered the Xbone version, but seeing how the Gaf-clan alone is ten times the size of the others I'm tempted to get the "full experience" on Ps4.

- One thing that bugs me though is that I can't have custom soundtracks on Ps4 and the Bone. I like the soundtrack and the way the music seamlessly works itself in and out of the gameplay, but I know for a fact that I'm going to pour hours and hours on this thing and sooner or later I'll get bored with the same bgms.

- Every weapon looks and sounds great. Still haven't changed my mind about them being too big though: you become a sitting duck when you reload because the animation obscures the ENTIRE field of view, especially on PvP. I'm already harmless because I can't shoot, if can't even see what's coming at me that's a bit of an overkill.

- I love the melee XD

- PvP seems balanced. Honestly I feel like the players who top the scores must have host advantage: watching them play I don't really see much awareness of the maps or the gunplay.
I also like how the powers "mess" with PvP: I have played as a Titan and let me tell you, blowing to kingdom come two-three players camping on a control point, jumping out of nowhere, always gives me a sick laughter. Can't wait to get the Defender sub-class and go "nope" with a gold bubble.

- Still teamWarlock though ;D

- One thing I don't get. I thought that the Alpha was limited to Fallen and Hive in order to not "spoil" every aspect of the game before the Beta. But Cabal and Vex are nowhere to be seen: is each planet limited to a specific faction, or couple of factions?

- Speaking of factions: any real difference between the factions in PVP? outside of logos and such.

Me, but only because the limited content of the beta. I think the two will balance out more, in my eyes anyway, when there is more challenging and varied PVE things to do.

Oh, and Destiny needs to step its loot game up. It's not to the point where I think I could get addicted to it. I want Diablo levels of variety and amount, with loot raining down from Septik Prime's ass once he finally goes down. It's just not satisfying in it's current state (to me) though I'm willing to chock it up to the beta.

It's not just the beta, but the design philosophy of Bungie toward loot games. It seems they just aren't fans of showering the player with constant loot like in Borderlands or Diablo.

Just finished the strike and it was harder than I expected. In the alpha, I barely broke a sweat while doing it. This time, it was a struggle since I went in with my crappy scout rifle as my best weapon. Its seems my random team members had worse gear than me, so I had to do most of the killing. It's chaotic once enemies just swarm you all over the place because we can't kill fast enough. XD Finished the strike with a team of 2, but it was fun anyway. :]

I started playing this again. I can't stop. too good

How can you be having fun!? I just read in the other Destiny thread that there's judderz in teh beta! In a beta! Can you believe it? Also people now talking about a downgrade in graphics.

How can you be having fun?!?!?!

:p

I'll be having fun too when I get on to playing next week. Can't wait to give the game a try. Looks like some great fun.

true but then it comes down to who has played the game the most and who has the best gear. not really my cup of tea but some might enjoy its madness. i just hope halo 5 pvp is really good because its the last hope i have now

Keep posting videos and impressions so I can live through osmossis. I will be lucky if I can get to this on the last day of beta. Looks like it is mostly the Alpha with a few more goodies.

why would the Cabal and Vex be in these early missions when they are supposedly mostly located on Venus and Mars?

The opening cinematic, with the shifting star map, when the narrator describes the Traveller's enemy is sooo Cthulu. lol

Awesome game so far, even if some of the environment textures are shitty.

Iron Banner is a limited time thing, ya know
Also based off of Halo: Spartan Assault, Halo 5 might suck

That is what I think. The core game is pretty boring and those "side missions" in free roam are a joke. Since the SP missions aren't very long - it will most likely get old quick.

I guess its just too hard to tell yet. I guess my cynicalness from MMOs is the fact that what they have given us so close to release so far is such a small sample I don't have any indication of how much team focused PVE there is in the game. Would have been nice if not only they gave us PVE level cap to 8 but also 1 stock level 20 character to help test a smaller sample of the later/end game stuff as well.

I really do like the PVE stuff when grouped up and ripping through but at the same time I wish they took the social end a bit further. I still feel disjointed from people when I play this game unless I'm prearranging a group beforehand.

I think at the moment I'm going to sit back and wait until closer to release for more indepth previews outside of what they are showing in beta before I decide if I'll day 1 this or not.

Most of the armour's colours in the game can be changed with Shaders.

bungie always adds loads of playlist as time goes on and if they receive positive feedback iron banner will defo become a permanent playlist when the game releases. halo spartan assault is a top down shooter, i wouldnt look into that game at all. the snipets of info we have on halo 5 sound good so far so im pumped + the beta is this fall so we find out soon enough anyway

Do we know If PS3 progress will transfer If you pick up the PS4 version later?

I believe it will. I was reading a state of the game type thing, and it was mentioned that your Destiny account was tied to your PSN/Live account instead of your specific console so that your character can span multiple games across multiple generations of consoles.

Text from bungie.net:

Claude Errera Apparently, characters created on the PS4 are available when the same account logs in on a PS3. Am I allowed to say that?

You’re allowed to say whatever you want, Mr. Errera. How are you today? You’re certainly looking well.

Your question points to a very interesting truth about how Destiny will work. As you’ve discovered, as your Guardian evolves it will be able to travel from one generation of console to the next. Just like hopping worlds, you can use the same Guardian on Next Gen and Legacy Gen consoles – so long as you stay in the same system. Ergo, you can move from PlayStation to PlayStation and from Xbox to Xbox, but not across product lines.

According to David Shaw, our self-professed Chief Pyrotechnical Officer, this was the plan all along, as we set out to build an adventure that would span generations. “Our service is built with flexibility in mind. As a player of Destiny, you have a Bungie account that’s bound to your PSN ID or your Xbox LIVE Gamertag, instead of a specific generation of device.”

Are we able to level up our character abilities further in the beta compared to the alpha?

I don't remember starting the progress to unlock the 3rd grenade type in the alpha, but now mine is about 25% completed. Same with all the other skill trees. Titan's Lightning Grenade, Shoulder Charge, etc.

Found the woman in the tower that sells shaders.

Looks like can't color our armor till level 20? Kinda a bummer.

By level 8 my warlock looked horrid with mismatching armor.

Also: please let me buy some sort of companion ghost app that tells me when I am near a gold loot chest!

And to any gaf I played mp with yesterday; sorry for sucking so bad. Auto rifles rule pvp and I was gimped.

We were able to do it in the Alpha at level 8, but the other person who sells them does not have them anymore.

Then find better armor that matches!

Nah, it's cool Badger. I had some horrible games, too. Auto rifles are pretty strong, but I'm starting to use scout rifles and am learning that I need to play a more cautious game and not run n' gun 24/7. It's helping a lot.

Oh, I just remembered. Yesterday I had a party chat full of GAFfers. When we went into Crucible, for some reason we got split up and half of us were on the other team. It was pretty funny talking with each other and trying to coordinate even though that meant giving the other team our plans. Killing each other and then hearing reactions in chat was hilarious. Fortunately, backing out of Crucible and then re-entering fixed this.

So will we be able to carry our beta characters over into the full release?
Apologies if this has been asked a million times.

No.

The PvP is super fun (PvE is super fun too, the story is at least).

Only complaints about the game so far coming from the Alpha:

1) The Hunter's special in PvP is really OP. You get three one-hit kills that you can use when you want and at extreme distances.

2) Even including the Alpha I have still yet to experience the Devil's Lair strike from beginning to end. Every time I join a strike it throws me (usually) into the fight against the walker, or if I'm a little bit lucky the part where the ghost brings down the three barriers.

The only time I've gotten into a strike at the very beginning, we were all disconnected less than a third of the way in.

Otherwise, for sure keeping my pre-order. Don't think I'll go for the Guardian Edition, though I might change my mind who knows.

Btw, Venus is amazing.

AFAIK It's still up in the air, I thought

Hunter Special lasts 10 seconds

Quick question guys:

I've started transferring game content in the beta client, but it's going painfully slow. Is it ok to turn off my PS4 to take it downstais and direct connect my router? Safe as in the data that's already been downloaded becoming corrupted of needing to be downloaded all in one go. Thanks for any input.

Will Bungie take into account not everyone lives in America and that 7am in the morning for a two hour event is not very convenient for rest of the world... or just Australia in this case? Hopefully they open events like this twice in the day to give everyone a chance of participating. Other than that have enjoyed the beta. Bring on September.

Stashed some level 10 gear and material into a vault just in case it carries over.

Also: glad I tried warlock for the beta. It convinced me Hunter all the way for full game.

May start a new Titan just to have tried them all.
