Destiny House of Wolves Reveal Thread

Is this the new horde/firefight/whatever PvE mode?

Now that's something I want to see in action.

As somebody who does enough work day in and day out I don't look to my games to make things more difficult when it comes to the simple act of playing them, and wasted time is the cardinal sin.

And there is enough content to do that.
Nothing wrong with making somethings a extra challenge to test yourself extra and extent the longevity of the game.

So wait, Trials of Osiris doesn't have matchmaking? Lolwut

"We find your enemies. But you have to find friends yourself"

You form a party of three, after which you get matchmade with other parties of three. Similar to raids, the nature of the game type kind of demands that type of commitment / cohesion.

These livestreams have all been so fun-- is tomorrow the last one or will they do one more before launch?

It's the last announced live stream. Prison of Elders and the new strike are set to be revealed tomorrow, and something else shortly after.

Matchmaking should be in everything, with no difficulty adjustments. Give people the option.

Just add a disclaimer saying "this content heavily relies on communication, etc. and may not be suited to random parties".

Then it's up to the players to decide if they want to leave it to chance. They could have a lousy time with randoms, or maybe luck out and find a decent group.

You know what you're getting into.

And aren't LFG parties basically glorified matchmaking groups? A lot of the time you don't know anyone there and have no idea how it's gonna be, outside of knowing what gear people have due to all the "Gjallahorn / weapon of the week only, everything else need not apply" people.

GAF is kind of an exception because most people are nice, but outside of here that's the way I see it.

Yup. I'm sick of not giving us a fucking choice. If I want to match make for stuff then that should be my goddamn choice.

Matchmaking for Trials would be a nightmare. It's an elimination mode based on wins and considering it's 3 losses and you have to start over, playing with randoms each match would be awful.

The way the end game activities are set up do not lend themselves well to matchmaking. Weekly heroics only have it because they are low commitment and don't offer high level loot. Bungie has to come up with an in-game LFG / party up system in Destiny 2 because just straight matchmaking is not the answer.

Because that requires more work then just hitting a easy button.
Making you "work" for it results in that people are more commited to it and really want to play it.

Yes and you would be the first one to be on the forum complaining that matchmaking is terrible, I think that an ingame lfg should exist if anything and not matchmaking unless it was optional.

No because imo things are made easy enough already. It a high level content so you need imo to do some work to get a good fireteam to get that special event or Raid. That high tier of Destiny content. Adding matchmaking to everything totally kills that.

My point was having mm doesn't hurt anyone. You can still bring your own fireteam.

Raids don't have matchmaking. I really don't get why people complain so much about matchmaking, seeing it takes 2 min to get a group.

He's probably saying raids in other games like wow. Ehh I'm tired of arguing with people about this. Bungie's going to do what they want. I can solo crota normal anyway. Hopefully poe will we soloable.

2 minutes? more like 2 hours

All you have to do is go to the Destiny OT, post what activity you're looking to do, and watch the replies come in immediately. It's that simple.

I feel bad for anyone who doesn't regularly go on GAF / Reddit / LFG sites because they're the ones who really need a system to find people to play the game with. If you're a gaffer you really have no excuse because the community here for Destiny is always active and there's always people to do raids/nightfalls/etc with.

now that most of the community's issues have been addressed (for better or for worse), i would hope bungie has a plan for adding social features and/or matchmaking to the end-game content in the works.

And then the people who actually spend the minimal amount of time and effort it takes to form a 3 man squad get to suffer because we get matched against teams of AFKers and rage-quitters? No thanks.

Regular Crucible still will have matchmaking. Trials of Osiris is for hardcore PvP play that requires coordination and skilled teamwork. There is absolutely no room for random teammate matchmaking there.

Wanted to bring this post over from the community thread:

Yeah definitely different doors for each enemy type, looks like there's something next to each one that signifies which one is which

Cabal shield next to this one:

Hive barnacle / egg things next to this one:

Fallen crate next to this door:

Some additional observations:

The trailer has us spawning into that room with the multiple doors, so that appears to be the central hub/staging area.

The servitor that appears in the doorway might not be an enemy. It's there when both the Hive and Cabal themed doors open. My theory is he's the care taker / guard of the Prison, so he's the one letting us into the different areas.

Like I told you in the other thread Ghaleon, I set myself up to be disappointed. I have faith in Bungie has enough skills to steal the basic idea from another game.

I know. I'm just trying to stop you from setting up other people for disappointment. :p

Lets not forget that Bungie provided their own Horde mode in the form of Firefight, for both Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach. They don't actually need to steal from anyone besides themselves.

But the more replayable the new mode is, the lower the rate of quality loot I'd expect to drop. Could hardly be Destiny without a new currency or resource along with stringent caps.

I know. I'm just trying to stop you from setting up other people for disappointment. :p
Hah, damn good point.

I can imagine the Servitor 'Teleporting' you to different areas(unless the Arena is a huge area) because some of the places they showed off are extremely huge.

I'll take everyone down with my maximum the hype levels~ Alright I'll stop until tomorrow. Oh god the streams tomorrow, we're going to find soon aren't we.

And from what I hear Firefight was pretty damn fun.

lol people will always complain about this game. The improvements in house of wolves are going to be awesome, don't care what haters say.

And come on people, it's seriously sad if you can't find TWO people to group up with for the trials.

I just realized the reason we might not be seeing Vex in the Prison trailer is because you can't exactly lock Vex up. They'd teleport right out. But they could always teleport in during a battle with other factions.

We haven't seen Vex ships either have way? It'd be sweet if like the Hive they can have teleportings hips.

I've said it a million times, but it's really not that easy on Xbox. It's better recently, but the PS4 people have their view of this extremely skewed.

PoE will have match making, according to this
I guess we'll find out tomorrow if true.

It is rumored to have three difficulty settings. Yeah I wonder if the highest difficulties have the best loot and don't have MM.

Kind of disappointed because this probably means it is a vanilla horde mode that doesn't require any cooperation.

Edit: yeah that press release quote makes it really sound like the higher difficulty does not have MM.

Huh, that sounds exactly what I was wishing for:
I hope there's matchmaking. Hopefully it will be a fun PvE mode that GAF will come to like, but if not it's going to be a bitch to find a group to play with.

Just wishing here, but 2 versions would be grand:
  • no matchmaking, higher difficulty scaling and longer time limit
  • matchmaking, with truncated time limit.

There's still the problem of how the difficulty scaling will go. If it's just bullet sponges instead of dynamic/smarter enemy movement in the final waves, it won't be nearly as fun as I'm hoping. I'm expecting a Destiny version of Reach's Firefight, but with hopefully less predictable enemy movement over multiple playthroughs.

I think there is basically no chance that they added better AI algorithms for this DLC. The only possibility is higher level scalings based upon the existing rules.

You never know~ Crotas End has some interesting..AI....tendencies compared to the main game. What this means is that, the first dreg you encounter will just teleport and kill you.

World of Warcraft has raids that are far more complex than anything in Destiny's "raids", and yet Blizzard includes matchmaking for their raids.

Bungie just being stubborn.

WoW players are already hardcore enough to pay a monthly subscription fee. It's not really a fair comparison.

Yeah, it's good if you are on PS4, X1 not so much :(

We're being progressive, we added an XBO player list to the first page of the Destiny thread!

WoW players are already hardcore enough to pay a monthly subscription fee. It's not really a fair comparison.

Actually, it's Blizzard having an incentive for players to keep paying. The difference between Destiny and WoW, is that WoW has to have things that keep making people come back. Because that directly affects the profit line. So having more stuff for casual players to do-LFG Raids with a staggered release schedule, matchmaking for everything, Garrisons-for casuals it's a way to be engaged into the game and to keep playing. You're always going to have your hardcore audience there(Unless they royally fuck up-Like WildStar), but you want to attract the casual to it. Thus LFR and easy Legendary questlines for WoW.

For Destiny however, it's different. They have no incentive to offer Raid matchmaking, so they make it for the 'hardcore'. I'm sure some players have had a sentiment of quitting if they ever introduced MM for raids in Destiny. So they're able to gate these things, because they don't have a montly quota to fill. But, and a big but, working on the game and putting things into the game is a huge incentive for Bungie, because unlike Blizzard they can experiment without fear of losing those paying players; Like the commendation and exotic re-levelling in TDB made many a player(Including me) quit.

So...different philosophies, not really comparable.
