This Hunter ToO helmet is amazing. With the gauntlets I am loving having chatterwhite on with the red PoE cloak.

Damn, might be worth doing ToO for that.

Are you guys getting the ToO hunter helmet from the 8th win gold package?

I keep getting those damn trials fusion rifles out of it :/ I don't want it!

Got both my Hunter and Titan helmet out of that gold tier package, pretty damn lucky! Every other time it gave me the fusion rifle as well :p
Even without shader it looks pretty awesome imo:

Of course Matador is the right answer when it comes to shotguns. I mean, just look at the name's meaning:

"a bullfighter who has the principal role and who kills the bull in a bullfight

Origin

Spanish, from matar to kill"
I'm only slightly disappointed in it because it doesn't have the word "EL" in front of its name. Otherwise, yup. I hated the ROF on it but I got used to it. Can't run up on teams that are capturing a zone with it, but it wrecks a Felwinter and that's all I ask of it.

What is your team running with (classes/weapons)? Void has been the easiest encounter so far. We nail it every try now. Don't try and burn him down in one go, move to the mines as a team, burn him down more, get the rest of the mines, and then finish him off.
2 Hunters, everyone with Void weapons. I know we had at least 2 ascended Void snipers and Truths, but the biggest problem was really staying alive. We got to the mine phase a couple of times, but inevitably I or someone else would die, leaving the other two to just run and try not to get killed by the many, many adds around. We could barely do any real damage to Skola apart from the first big burn at the beginning.

I may have to resort to begging for a sherpa just so I can see how professionals do it.

Skolas is a very tiring fight. If there was a checkpoint system in place and the loot rewards were guaranteed or better I would be more inclined to do it.

At this point I'm only running Skolas to get a solar hand cannon, once I have it I will most likely stop or only run it to help fellow gaffers.
Not having a checkpoint is huge, way more than I ever imagined. The run up to Skolas is pretty easy in comparison. I can see WHY Bungie did it, as to prevent people from just passing the final boss around, but I don't have to like that. Not at all.

Maybe each round should serve as a punch on a ticket, similar to ToO. Then if you have to abandon the match for whatever reason, you can still go back or join up with others at the same point at any given time during the week. Killing Skolas would complete the ticket for your character, so you'd have to start all over again or switch to a new one.

Congrats Dave, I watched some of the stream when you guys played... I think.

Did you manage to get anything nice from Mercury?

I got the auto rifle (void) but no armor. Can't say I wasn't a little disappointed but was still VERY happy to make it. I did get a solar Eye of Sol from the gold package and am planning on getting the gauntlets tonight. Also had the cool looking cloak drop during the match.

Managed to get 2 characters to level 5 in IB. Does anyone know if the 'other character' buff doubles if you have two?

Kinda doubting it - but will see what happens on my third char when I play a little IB tonight with the all the buff modifiers on. Probably get to level 3 after turning in 3 or 4 bounties and playing 4 games :)

Got in on my first ever Trials run! Also got that trusty Messenger you like so much. You're right, it's incredible.

Yea, I didn't give a shit about the Messenger when I first got it but after being owned by one random guy in my first day in IB, I had to try it out. Maybe my kill streaks with it over the weekend probably got other people to check it XD

Oh man, that looks great.

Even your stat rolls are on point, that's actually exactly what I would want from hunter stats. The more grenades the better!

Heh, I also got the void auto rifle. Seems nice, but yeah... it's an auto rifle. Maybe one day when they buff up AR's again it will be good. For now, in the vault it goes!

I got the void auto rifle on my second trip to Mercury and it's actually pretty stinking good Dave! Especially for an auto rifle. It was fantastic against the vex on last weeks 34 PoE. But I can understand the disappointment.

Yup I bought the gauntlets and chest piece, the other 2 were lucky drops luckily without too much Strength. I agree on the grenades, for some reason the tripmine and me are getting along really well. Especially, when someone is getting revived. Full Titan gear looks great as well, but got less lucky on the stats with 0 Disc.

Same, here. I've been to Mercury every week so far, and I still don't have the helmet.

Everyone I've gone to Trials with got theirs from the 6 win package from Vance.

That's how it is lol.

I love my Arc Summoner, and once they inevitably buff ARs, it'll be a beast.

DGAF I need your assistance.

I'm at 7-0 on Trials and I need the last push to get me to Mercury. I will stick around and help you guys get 9-0 as well if needs be.

Any serious takers?

I'm going to start using it since I'm done with IB on my Hunter. Is had good impact for an AR, up there with my old Shadow Price (which I still have). Kinda anxious to try it out in regular Crucible.

Thanks again for giving your spot to me!

I've only done it this week once, but I don't think Truth is the best heavy option. Use a corrective measure or similar void machine gun (I used an ascended jolder's hammer). Gjallerhorn is probably a better option as well regardless of burn. We had 2 warlocks and had a few run saving self-revives, so I can definitely see how people can get stuck on it.

I still have my Shadow Price as well. It's the last bastion of the original legendary weapons, holding out against the sharding onslaught like defenders at The Alamo.

When they inevitably buff auto rifles I think it'll be a beast in crucible, and it's great for void burn and against Vex now. Saved me from having to ascend my Word of Crota.

You're welcome! I heard my name called and was so bummed because I knew I had to do Handy-man stuff around the house. Only consolation was giving the spot to you and you getting the 9-0. Congrats!

I find everything PvE in HoW extremely boring and repetitive, now i even would dare to say that story was the highlight of it lol. Trials its where i will be spending my time (hopefully whenever i get my health problems sorted), first of you get better weapons more etheric lights, more excitement, cooler looking gear. Think i will only run PoEs whenever Varriks will have gear with good stats in his inventory. Btw i really hope to run trials tonight (gonna see my gp in an hour) , or even get at least 5 wins to get my titan gauntlets. Miss it so much now.

We got to the mine phase a couple of times, but inevitably I or someone else would die, leaving the other two to just run and try not to get killed by the many, many adds around. As long as you have enough DPS to break the servitor bonds on the first burn you should be good. Staying alive is tricky but requires a lot of good teamwork and commitment to a single strategy.

After the first burn and your shield runs out it's time to start moving. You should be at the first mine stage now. Everyone should head to the right side of the stage (unless the first mine pops next to you, in that case have a hunter go invisible and get it) by going around the back side. Head to where the mine is on the far right and you'll be safe from adds there (avoid jumping on your way over, that's how the snipers get you). If the middle mine pops, same thing have your other hunter go invisible and get the mine. After the three mines have been dismantled, work to revive all teammates and get to a point where all three of you are full health on the right ledge and the essence has just been passed off. Then run around through the tunnels back to the left side, set up a bubble, and burn Skolas down to the second set of mines. You may be able to finish him here or just do the same as the first mines and clear the second mines, regroup to full health on the right ledge, and then move to the left side again for a final burn down.

Handling the essence is important. If one person dies it is OK, you still have another to take that essence, if they are immune that is still OK. Their job should be to revive the first teammate that went down and that teammate takes the essence at 5 seconds. Then go revive the third teammate and have him take the essence at 5 seconds. We've gotten down to one man plenty of times, but because they delay giving the essence to someone when someone dies with it, the 30 second revive timer isn't an issue.

Make sure all your guys have max armor stats and use invisibility a ton. The big thing is staying together, if someone dies on the wrong side of the map you won't get to him in time. If two of you are alive and need to go across the map for a mine do it, and pass the essence off, but immediately head back to revive the third guy since you need to stay together.

Here is a very sloppy execution of that, but note how we focus on getting a full healthy team before attacking Skolas again:

Here is a really good execution of that (found it!):
nvm i can't find it for some reason

It's good to watch both videos and see how there isn't any panic. This strategy may go out the window on Solar or Arc since the adds will wreck you, but it works great for Void (and hopefully if we get a Specialist modifier)

lol, other than VoG weapons it's my last holdout as well. It was actually the first legendary primary I ever got. Remember being so happy when I saw it pop from the Rank 3 Vanguard Package. The roll on mine is awful, and I think about dismantling it daily since I'm constantly short on weapon parts. But I just can't bring myself to do it.
