Doesn't everyone get up in arms when the worst players or losing team in PVP are the ones who get legendary/exotic drops?

Rewarding bad players and removing rewards for good players seems ridiculous.

So now I'll have fewer coins because I play well so I shouldn't be able to afford boons?

Ass backwards.

Isn't Mercury a holy land of rewards for good players? This isn't really like the RNG drops since you still have to win out to get actual rewards. Coins just help you get there. Who needs more help? People that win or people that lose?

This anger over coins?

If you made it to Mercury, you get 8 coins back from just opening the packages. And if you lose, you're the person who could probably use the coins. It really isn't that backwards.

Awww man, those 9 coins from each chest were pretty helpful. But as long as we can get it as a loot reward from the end of the round... cool I guess :)

I don't see any problem with this. They (the "losers") get coins and you get a trip to Mercury. What's the problem here again?

Exactly. Add the coins for the losers, whatever, who cares. But take them away from when you win? Huge wtf.

I personally don't believe people should be given handouts for being bad at the game, but I'm not a game designer as I know they are trying to make the experience better for average, below average players.

Plus, without the boons, it's just going to make me have to be in Trials longer to crush more players dreams.

You'd think they'd want the good players to get to Mercury as fast as possible to get them out of the playlist.

It's not that the winners get an overflux of coins.

It's that grinding coins if fucking boring.
So? Who needs the coins more? Those who can easily get flawless or those who struggle to even get 5 wins? I don't see any problem with this at all. You still get coins from packages just not from Mercury chest.

Indeed.

I'm not angry at all. I just don't agree with the decision and I'm expressing that.

I don't see the reason to remove rewards. If you want to give out free coins to losing teams, fine.

......I'm sorry, I didn't know coins were a limited thing that only the winner gets. Here I was, thinking that it was just a random drop not decided by who got coins already.

It's punishing good players. That is all it is. There is no discernible reason to remove the coin reward from the chest, except to make good players grind more.

I'm guessing they were seeing a trend of people who were losing regularly at Osiris giving up and / or not having enough passage coins for another go. If the winners get coins and the losers don't and get discouraged, then over time the people playing Osiris gets whittled down. That's bad for everyone, especially if you want trips to Mercury to continue. You ant these guys to keep playing.

It's basically a way to encourage players who are not getting rewards to at least try again.

Taking them off Mercury is to get more people playing the daily playlist.

Here we go again.....😒

If it's not one thing, it's ten others.

Bungie is Satan and bad at video games confirmed

Nailed it! Classic rich get richer. Bungie did the right thing, and this is coming from someone who has gone to the Lighthouse. I want more people to be able to experience that!

Yeah, I don't think there's any issue with the change.

I'm all for giving losing players more coins.

But it doesn't make sense to remove the coin reward for people who go to Mercury. Coins aren't a finite thing that can be only given to one or the other.

This seems right. But we're guessing at their rationale. Yet another example of Bungie not saying anything when they could and be really engaged and helpful to the community. Instead people are bringing their worst fears to the discussion.

Bungie, please, talk to us. Tell us what you're thinking. Until you do, there are going to be more and more of these community blow-ups.

Oh the good players that continue playing ToO even after already getting to Mercury thrice every Friday? Those players you mean right? Vance already sold all the armor gear so at this point I take it people are in it for a) certain weapons with certain burns, b) to help those who haven't gotten to mercury, c) for the hell of it, or d) for the satisfaction of crushing people's Mercury dreams.

Just caught up on the Redbull thread. My God, what has Bungie done.

It's one thing to have pricing/bundle concerns with the value proposition of certain offerings, but this is a new low. Tying a quest or game activity behind an unrelated beverage purchase is baffling. I hate this practice and I refuse to support it. Such a bad PR week for this game. It's getting embarrassing to be a steadfast player of the game.

Only a chance if you lose, which means you've already "spent" the mercy or the 2 for 1 deal.

Yep. nailed it. The folks who make it to mercury can still get passage coins from the all the tier rewards.
EDIT:
Probably would have been better though to still give the winners at least a couple coins instead of COMPLETELY removing them at the lighthouse but I think it was handing them 8 or 9?

I dont know if this patch is gong to make me want to play trials again. getting coins is nice but its alot like a free drink at a casino. no real value. just made to keep you pumping more coins in the machines

And doing crucible dailies
That's 3 coins a day. You get 21 coins a week from that. Add the coins you get from packages across 3 characters and you still have coins left over for the following week after getting all buffs for every character.

Again, what's the problem?

Yes, probably? Considering there's about 15 different elemental primaries you can get....and yeah, some of those people help people get to mercury, some of them do it for the hell of it, and yeah I support those who crush other peoples dreams.

Because it's a competitive multiplayer match. It's fun to do. So yes, those who enjoy ToO I can foresee that they will continue playing it and keep trying to go to Mercury.

Shocking, I know.

Mercury runs aren't always perfect, so having to rebuy buffs is a realistic issue.

Bungie is just adding a grind to something they didn't need to. Someone having more coins than you isn't going to hurt you Nami. But Bungie adding a grind to something that didn't need it is going to hurt players who don't want to grind it out.

The armor Vance sells changes every week with different stat and perk distributions.

He will be selling Heavy Ammo boots for Hunter this week when the last time it was Special Ammo boots.
