Number 1 is what we did with Sleepy and Kukawaki a while back and it worked really well. We hit him hard at first to trigger the first mines as close to the start of the encounter as possible (to avoid Skolas Transmitted Disease swap fatigue), started running around the arena to set up then burned him before taking care of the mines.

Just bear in mind that the mines don't dissappear once Skolas is dead.

I hate the all or nothing strategies, people try them without the right amount of firepower and/or coordination and wipe more often than not. It's part of what sent DGAF into a hate spiral with HM Crota trying to beat him before ogres.

The mines are an easy section if you don't panic and have great teamwork, it's OK for people to die and sometimes it even makes sense to let the buff kill someone during that phase. On all the Skolas School kills we had with first timers we beat it every time we made it to the second mine round without burning him down. We handled the mines, regrouped, then killed him. Some teams died on the first round just figuring out what was going on but the burn strategy is tough to recover from if you don't pull it off.

It takes 5 minutes longer but has a much higher success rate IMO

Anyone up for a quick Nightfall on PS4?

PSN: renewman1

Also, got an Etheric Light. Do I ascend my 300 Hezen Vengeance or 331 BTRD with a God Roll on it?

Yeah, last Wednesday. She's gorgeous :)

Can you add me back to the SoM chat on PSN?

AWWWWW BABY!!!! Congrats!

Thanks! How much Destiny I'll get to play now is... well, not that important. But it wont be much probably.

Oh damn, a poop. That's a wipe.

Congrats on the little one there.

I'm not planning on having a little guardian soon but I'll be getting a puppy which will be like my own dinklebot I imagine.

People getting Horn today should rush to level it and take it out for a Solar Burn spin with the NF. And then imagine that without Small Arms nerfing the output. A pure Solar Burn encounter? It meeeelts.

Small Arms nerfs special and heavy weapons damage output? What?

It really isn't all or nothing though, if by the time the second wave of mines spawn Skolas isn't dead you just go back to the regular tactic and that's it. What pushed us to use this tactic was the always welcome NAT type limitation error: Kuka and I couldn't speak directly to each other and had to use Sleepy as a relay. This effectively meant that the longer we were on the STD phase the more likely we were to wipe. Since we felt our DPS was adequate enough we went for the burn to get the first mines out of the way, it just ended up being more effective than anticipated.

Small Arms nerfs special and heavy weapons damage output? What?
Small Arms buffs your Primary and nerfs Special/Heavy.

Specialist buffs your Special and nerfs your Primary/Heavy. Note: despite being in the primary slot, Universal Remote, Vex Mythoclast and No Land Beyond are Special Weapons. During an encounter with Specialist, use these as your primary so that both your primary and secondary weapons have a buff :)

That's part of what makes Small Arms Skolas so hard! Your Shotguns tickle the mele Knights :( and rockets don't damage Skolas as well as they should.

Starting nightfall x3, room for two if anyone is interested. Psn Teasing_Pink, feel free to join in progress. Unless ths all goes horribly wrong, in which case I may be back in orbit...

I'm going to miss my VoC in TTK and beyond. Best gun IMO. I'm going to keep it in my vault in remembrance of all the content it has helped me go through.

Wow, I wish the in-game description for Small Arms clarified that.

Personally, I'll be using my 365 FB because my VoC is still just 300.
If you have etheric, ascend the VoC. It's way better for this NF simply due to the drop off for HC's. You'll want to keep your distance. VoC is unbelievable for this NF.

Burning Skolas between mines isn't a problem, I encourage it. It's trying to continue to burn him and kill him while mines are actively spawning that is the all or nothing strategy. My response really should have quoted the previous poster's 2nd strategy. Also during the lightswitch modifier burning Skolas while ignoring the add's every 10% of his health is asking to be knifed in the face by a captain, but I'd be more willing with that strat on the other modifiers.

So I was looking at my vault and kept wondering, why am I still holding the radiant and ascendant materials?

Is there any good use for them?

Year 1 elemental primaries will probably still be useful during burns, before we get ourselves some of those fancy new raid primaries. :3

After watching all the Luke interviews recently, I think the next title should be

Destiny |OT♦28| You Killed His Son, Now He's Pissed
Destiny |OT♦28| You Pulled the LAN, Now He's Pissed

Destiny |OT♦28| Nolan Beyond still king

Not really. At this point I save them for when I need glimmer quickly. I had close to several hundred of each but now they are down to 150 or so each.

It's also good if you need motes.

Assuming you've upgraded all your old stuff, it's a way to store money beyond the glimmer cap :p I think of my ascendant and radiant stash as an offshore account :p used over a third of it re rolling my Ash Factory and Benevolence
