Or do the new story missions have better rewards going in at level 40 or are the higher difficulties locked behind light level anyways?

Definitely. It's only two missions in and you won't get anything out of being a higher level that much earlier.

Last Word has never been good in PvE tho... Which is why it sucks they nerfed it so hard in crucible useless gun now

First 30 minutes has more character development than year 1. I'm really enjoying it, done 3 missions. Writing is much better.

we only have a normal difficulty available right now, so not necessarily. but from a mission standpoint they're a bit less forgiving.

Luckily the light 240 ones are slightly harder. Need guns that aren't the last word.

Use your old character, you'll be re-doing all of the old story anyway, but it's now all questified.
