I've been wanting to do this for some time and really don't mind if nobody reads this, but these are my thoughts on the TTK.
TTK has highly disappointed me as the first major DLC of Destiny. Here a few reasons why.
1. The story
I was really excited when Bungie said they were going to focus on the story. I though "Yay! Cutscenes, plot lines, new characters that you see and talk to!" This is not the case. So far Bungie has given Destiny a slightly less interesting plot line than a low budget porn. Plot twist! That isn't a pizza delivery guy! What we got in TTK was a grumbly boss who spoke a few times and some 25 second cutscenes a handful of times. Most of the time it's voice overs which is boring. Video games shine as a story telling medium imo when they show you the story, not make you read it. Who would want to go to a movie and have them have intermissions where you can look on your mobile device at story plot points to derive the background of certain characters or what's going on? Nobody, that is the answer. The story also is super flat and parts of it make no sense. Since I have time to explain, I shall!
Rasputin.
Bungie has built Rasputin up to be this god like character who, so far, only plays Russian Opera music and apparently has no sense when it comes to home security. I mean, come on. Rasputin was one of the pinnacles of humanity's achievement in the golden age, and this guy's base has been broken into like 5 times and he doesn't even have any sort of self defense in there. It also makes no sense in the S.A.B.E.R strike when he is calling out for help. Why can't he just be like "Hey guys, halp!". Instead, he crashes his anti matter powered warsat onto the ground so we can hover around it and get our magical ghost to suck out some codes from it. He must have quite a few of those just lying around since we can't create them any more and he shows no discretion in crashing one instead of just telling you the codes or letting you in. I get that it would take away from the strike, but it makes no sense like so many other things in this game.
The Queen.
Bungie has built the queen up to be this character that won't move a finger if it doesn't benefit her. Yet she has just wiped out essentially her entire fleet, and those harbingers were a fucking let down....little balls of light? What does she gain from this? She probably could have just hid out in the asteroid field and been fine. I realize the crow and the queen are alive, but why not show cutscenes of that, or have a hidden cutscene at the end of HM KF showing that? So many missed opportunities.
These are just some of things I find annoying, but the story for Destiny sucks, Bungie needs to fix it. They need to pull a FF14 and literally blow up the entire game with a meteor and start over.
2. The leveling system.
I am not a fan of the new infusion system. It's held back by RNG and the grind. I have run KF 7 or so times and have never gotten a 310 item. I don't feel like this is me being entitled, I feel like this is a crappy loot system that is stingy as hell and i'm tired of it. The only reason I do like the leveling system is that I can level up other pieces of gear I find aesthetically pleasing or have perks to my liking.
3. The Raid.
The raid was fun, but I feel like there is way to much fluff. The first relic part needs to be cut in half. The first 2 jumping parts feel drawn out. The totem part would be cool if the Warpriest had a voice over, or heaven forbid a CS, where he maybe says he is judging you to see if you are fit to die by his hand or something. The Warpriest himself is another lame boss. He is this big stationary boss that shoots his infinite ammo bandanna gun at you. This boss archetype is so boring at this point. Him, Golgoroth, the Sisters especially, and Oryx. They all just stand around with their thumb up their ass and shoot you. AND NONE OF THEM TALK!!!!! Are all of your antagonists mutes, Bungie? Oh, wait, Oryx talks like 5 times throughout the game and says the same thing "Let's kill them!". GG on that. We have killed all of Oryx's kids, and all he can do is float around and say "Is this a battlefield for ants!?". I'm tired of them just leaving around convenient ways to kill the boss...Why would Oryx, god of the hive mind you, just slam his fist and stare at you and then spawn ogres that for some reason leave behind giant bombs that can damage him....WHY! That makes no sense. If you are a giant super villain you don't leave goods lying around your lair that can kill you. The "mechanics" of the fights are getting old too. I feel like they are running out of ideas and just like to make people jump around and have damage buffs to help kill the boss.
4. Level Design
One problem I have is that there isn't much of it. Alot of the game takes place in reused areas. I had really high hopes playing the first mission. Like, when things would blow on the ship, random guys would get taken. It was an interactive environment. It wasn't just, kill these guys, move forward, kill these guys, move forward...but it still was that as well. Then bungie just left that in the dust and went back to kill waves of guys and move on. If you are going to do that, at least make it fun. I'm also kinda miffed we got sold a 40$ package of ideas that should have been in vanilla destiny. The amount of content in this DLC is not worth the 40$. I think a more fair price point is 25$ max. We got less than half the content of Vanilla Destiny, and most of it is reused spaces.
5. The weapons and armor.
The weapons so far in Y2 are bland and boring. The only really exciting ones for me so far are Zhalo and the exotic swords. Those two things are what I want out of an exotic. A truly fun and exciting weapon to use. The other ones just have boring repeat perks for the most part and are never used. I wish they would dump perks on all weapons except ones from things like NFs and end game content. This would give people a reason to run those. It would also allow them to make more unique weapon perks. Exotic weapons should truly be that. Exotic. They should have unique perks that no other weapon has. They should also feel slightly over powered compared to other guns, why else call them exotic? Why not call them "slightly better legendary weapons". The armor in this game is also pretty tame. It would be cool to see exotic armor sets, where one piece is the exotic, but the rest make a matching set that have unique perks if you wear them all at the same time. They also need to make better looking armor. Why does most of the vendor hunter armor look like their chest piece is a life support system? Are hunters really just a bunch of sickly guardians kept alive by crappy looking gear that has hoses going into it? Bungie needs to quit being afraid of making really cool weapons. I will explain why next.
6. Misc.
PvP and PvE need to be totally separated. I feel like this is really holding them back in what they can do. I can only imagine someone says they have a really cool idea for a gun but then they say....but what will that do in PvP? I feel like this is one reason we didn't see a gun in HoW that had tracking bullets. Cause everyone in PvP would complain, and rightly so. They should make super-less PvP with PvP only weapon sets. I do like the quest system. I think they are going in the right direction with that, but the quests of TTK are grindy as hell. I have not completed ToM on 2 of my characters because farming 50 hadium flakes was terrible on one and I'm not a masochist. I also don't understand their thoughts on MM. Some quests had MM, but others did not and were either harder or easier than the ones that did have MM. I did like the CoO, but I feel like we need 3-5 mini games like that per expansion. They should have also added MM for CoO since it's a pain in the ass to find people some times.
I really also wish they would implement notorious enemies of sorts in the patrols. Maybe have world events on a weekly or monthly basis where you need 12-18 guardians to take down a huge boss or a series of small bosses in big open areas for a shot at some awesome loot. This would bring life back to the otherwise dead areas of patrol. The patrol areas themselves need to be much bigger as well. That way, adding a map wouldn't make you realize how depressingly small they are.
tl;dr: The story was a total let down. The leveling system encourages a god awful grind. The raid was pretty bland and basically like all the others. The level design is mostly reused areas. The first phobos level was cool, but the rest were not. Bungie needs to step up their weapon and armor game by separating PvP and PvE. Needs more mini games like CoO and notorious enemies, world events on Patrol to bring life back there.
Flame shield up!
