We'll get a new (meaningless) event along the lines of the masks before theres a substantial weapon rebalancing

One of Bungie's primary goals for Y2 was to be able to respond to weapon balance issues a lot quicker, hopefully they come through.

Although, I recall Luke mentioning that they like having 'seasons' where certain weapon archetypes rule, so idk - There seems to be a disconnect between those two statements so I honestly have no idea how they'll respond to these issues.

308 is fine but you just take more dmg and dish less. I beat Oryx as a 308 with another 308 and other people were 310+.

Yeah we did it last night too, it was more of a question of what light level does the old strategy become viable again. At 308 you'll get absolutely wrecked by adds because you can't possibly kill the ogres, then the knights, and then clear the adds all while doing reduced damage. We tried and made it to bombs once or twice but it was massively inconsistent.

Does the enemy going from orange to yellow signify a significant jump? I guess that is the root of the question because that is where 310 to 311 happens.

Lol, I know it gets a lot of (unjust imo) hate on here but I think Sector 618 would be pretty good for trials
I played a game of elimination there the other night, it was horrible. I'm guessing that the capture point will be B flag, but teams just prefer to charge straight ahead to smash the opposing team.

I was so happy when I got it.

I miss the days when I would be super happy getting amazing drops.

Destiny used to be cool.

No amazing drops any more. You have to grind out lame quest lines instead because that's what "the people" wanted.

;-p

Jesus christ! What is with these MOBA streamers and porn!? Now there's a League of Legends streamer showing Boku no Pico to over 3.5k viewers.
I'm so bored waiting for "Born of Battle"

I love the quests they added with solid rewards, but I wish that wasn't all there was. A loot game still needs quality loot drops.

Of course there are still snipers, but how is that any more diverse than Party Crasher/Matador and snipers? There were snipers before. A variety of them. I used a Shadow of Veils predominantly. Now I use 1000-Yard Stare which everyone has.

We are already at the point we were at with Thorn/TLW. Pulse rifles were actually a legitimate option before the hand cannon nerf and now they're the only option. If you're doing well with a scout, that's fine, but it's not like people didn't use weapons other than Thorn/TLW before. You'll probably never see a scout in sweaties, for example, because you'll get outdone by a pulse 90% of the time.

To me, a class of weapons being superior is different than literally 2 dominant primaries, and anything is better than Thorn dominance.

If we judge based on the weapons I get killed by, the variety is way greater than before.

It's not perfect and never will be but it is absolutely more diverse. I think we can judge better after Trials- if all I'm seeing is NM pulse and Red Death, I'll change my tune.

Just my $.02.

So I'm guessing I shouldn't google Boku no Pico...?

I regularly see Scouts, Handguns, and AR's in Crucible. Starting to see more Sidearms as well. What will be used in Trials remains to be seen but there is far less a distance between Pulse/Sniper or Pulse/Shotgun and other loadouts than there was with TLW and Thorn and even AR's (Suros) before that.

Sure, I've used a Sidearm a bit myself, but they're not suddenly better than they were before. People just assumed they were shit (myself included) and never used them. Only Hand Cannon I ever really see is Hawkmoon unless it's the Imprecation or Gunsmith bounty one.

Auto Rifles definitely perform better, but they're still pretty shit. Only one worth using is the Zhalo or maybe a good roll on a Gunsmith one. And even then, I still saw Auto Rifles before TTK when they were atrocious, so.

Scouts have a very small niche that pulse rifles slip into far too much.

I have 200 spare marks, anything worth buying ?

I was in the same situation last night. I ended up buying an engram from the Cryptarch. It turned into the Hacksaw, which is cool, but it was a 275. I kind of regret it.

Tomorrow will be my first Trials of Osiris, and I want to compete, but none of my friends are that familiar in The Crucible. I may have to hook up with DestinyGAF if I want a chance at The Lighthouse.

Snipers will be less common in Trials than Pulse rifles, mainly because Pulse's range is ridiculous and the flinching some gives holds the advantage over a sniper. It'll be interesting to check out

Very true. Hand cannons needed an adjustment, but they went a little bit too far. Auto rifles probably still need another slight damage buff. I've got some great rolls on a few ARs, but every time I try to break them out in Crucible, I just feel like the time to kill is way too slow. Scouts are great, but very niche as you mentioned. Need something similar to the AR buff to be able to counter Pulses.

I don't know there is always going to be a meta. You nerf Pulse Rifles then it is Scout Rifles. Then you nerf Scout Rifles and then close quarters combat is all that is left. There is no perfect balance. You make your own fate right, you see a team with all Pulse Rifles you use the geometry of the map to get the correct lines, set up traps, etc and hit them with mid to close range weapons. It just seems people keep blaming the meta as a crutch for constantly losing long range fire fights.

Some things were broken, like Thorns range and Shotgun range, but for the most part Pulse Rifles aren't broken. They are just the best weapon for a firefight out in the open, which is what 90% of bad players do. Myself included, which is why I use one. Sick of getting killed by them? Start sneaking around and taking them out from up close. I see in Iron Banner that is tough, but it shouldn't be to hard in ToO.

The diversity of primaries is a lie. When everyone is using pulses it doesn't really make that much of a difference if it's Nirwen's or the Villany, the encounter will play the same. Weapon variety needs to come from weapon classes, not just different weapons within the same class.

Agreed. And they haven't changed much over the last year either! It's changes to other weapon groups that have brought us to this point. I still think the overall balance is better now than is was before though.

Certainly. I think ToO will rip apart the idea that Pulse Rifles are the only viable primary. Controlled matches where you can really use the map to your advantage and I can see someone skilled with TLW getting within range of me and killing me before I can even get two bursts off. Snipers will be picking off Pulse Rifle users like nothing too since they won't be getting Thorned. Iron Banner creates a sense of imbalance because everyone just fights in the open in Iron Banner because the spawns get so screwy you can't reliably know your six is covered. So people just run around shooting each other in the middle of the nowhere.

But I'm an awful PvPer so what do I know (;

So, does anyone care about Mercury spoilers tomorrow? For loot or new areas or anything?

don't worry, Nami and Drizz will always be here. I'd only worry if they quit.

Lol this is true. I'm always hanging around, through the ups and the downs. Gotta ride that sine wave.

Thorn users got sniped plenty before, it'll actually be harder to snipe now with pulse rifles throwing your aim off.

TLW and Thorn are such different weapons though. Going up against one or the other requires a different kind of playstyle. I'm not even advocating going back to the Thorn meta because it made me mad as fuck. But going up against a Nirwen's Mercy or a Hawksaw or a Grasp of Malok or an Apple of Discord or a Red Death or a Bad Juju or even a NTTE is exactly the same every fucking time.

So, no, having a whole class of weapons being superior isn't necessarily better. Just because the name of the weapon is different doesn't suddenly add variety.

Yeah I really want to try out Trials but all my real life friends are supernoobs. If you wanna hook up for some trials of osiris n' chill, PSN: Not-A-Stalker

You think so? I thought people complained a lot about getting two head-shotted by thorns if they missed their first snipe. I guess for flinching it'll be different, but I feel like a sniper at the proper range has a better chance at a Pulse Rifle than they did against a Thorn.

all this HM KF talk. eesh. :/

anyone still doing NM KF? need to run it multiple times in order to get to the LL required for HM.
anyone able to run it tonight a few times, around, say 11pm EDT? we could start from the totems to shorten the runs.
a couple/few experts who could help to hasten the runs would be much appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same boat, needing some NM runs to even consider HM - I'm up for at least one run. Already on your FL - PSN is Kinezo

I just made it over 300, only got two Oryx kills under my belt. I'll be running normal mode for quite some time yet. Wish I could get on tonight but no go for me. ;(

I'd be complaining about getting two-shotted by Thorn no matter what, but I don't remember it being such a huge issue with sniping in particular. I'll let you know tomorrow after I scrub up a Mercury run.
