Destiny |OT41| Don't Worry, Leave Happy

Great too go back I tell ya. That one was not only for No Time to Explain, but for Drizzay. You'll be missed. Lots of stories were told and some were made. Always great to do a VoG run, or any raid really.

Thanks for playing guys!

Thanks for everything Drizzay. You'll continue to be there in the VoG.
Awesome post and a nice tribute.

At this rate, I may still be at it for another four hours.

Like, if it was just three nearly indestructible captains rushing you, or just the skiff shelling you to oblivion from the sky, it might be survivable. But both those things combined with invisible sword vandals, yellow bar dregs, a time limit and next to no viable cover because of the ring you have to stay in?

come-on-gob-arrested-development.gif

I've got 330 LL, flame shield, light beyond nemesis + fireborn, and yet getting a team of randoms past about 60% seems nearly impossible without a bubble.

Still at it? I can hop on.

Anybody (preferably with a defender bubble) feel like helping me with the Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strike for the Sleeper Simulant? The rest isn't bad, but that defend the warsat scene on level 42 very hard may be the most ridiculous sequence in the entire game.

PSN: Agent_Of_Atlas
I can help considering you help me get mine ;)

I should be available around 9:30-10pm est.

So which JLB from the gunsmitg is best this week. Looks like a toss up between 1 and 3. Any experienced advice would be appreciated.

I assume your talking about the JLB 47?

(Solar) Agg. Launch/Linear Comp./Countermass - SPS/Speed reload - G&H - Perfect balance/Lightweight

(Solar) Agg. Launch/Linear Comp./Countermass - Heavy Payload/Flared Magwell - Surplus - Perfect balance/Quickdraw

(Arc) Warhead Verniers/Soft Launch/Countermass - Heavy Payload/Speed reload - G&H - Perfect Balance/Snapshot

Go with roll 3 mainly because of Warhead Verniers and heavy payload. Anything that maxes out velocity and blast radius. It's close to a god roll. Ideally a god roll would be javelin in that last slot instead of snapshot/PB.

Just maxed out my Striker, so now I'd like to start levelling up one of the other two. Which one do you find more useful/fun to play: Defender or Sunbreaker?

Defender is probably the most useful class in the game for PVE. Upgrade that first, people will love you for KF.

I love defender but I like playing support classes/characters.

If you're new to the game I'd recommend leveling Sunbreaker next as it's the other PvP capable class. Defenders have lower K/D by design and are PvE centric.

With the addition of the clan roster in-game does gaf have an Xbox One centric clan I can join or do we need to get one up and running?

There used to be one, but I'm not sure if anyone is active anymore. People will probably come back after Rise of Iron is released.

I am on Xbox One. I have played around 1000 hours but my time became more scarce around the release of Taken King so by the time I was raid ready I kind of felt like an outcast because I had not done it yet. I did find a group once that made it up to Golgoroth but that was it. I would be very interested in a newbie Kings Fall raid for Xbox players. And I would be interested in getting to know more players in general for Rise of Iron.

With the addition of the clan roster in-game does gaf have an Xbox One centric clan I can join or do we need to get one up and running?

Toymachine228 is re-launching a DGAF Xbox clan and is actively looking for players. Drop him a PM and he will add you both to the list.

I'm secretly hoping we can get a European Xbox DGAF clan going as I struggle to make US timezones.

Man coming home to no internet access last night sorta stopped my night in its tracks. :p AT&T tells me they will be coming between 8:30am-12:30pm today so I've gotta race home as soon as I hear anything from them. Hope it is simple.
I'm super down!
It doesn't look like you got a spot for this week, although I know pandora at least was just joining in to help out. I'll shoot a PM over to see if it's ok to get you in.
Hawkian said by Friday, they are letting this one run longer so they have enough time to get ready for the Drizz OT
Yeah, it will go up on Friday.

I need some guideance. Just getting started with TTK after a year of abstinence I want to make the most out of my spare gaming time. The chart I got refered to a couple of pages ago is fine, but what I'm really looking for is a guide about how to progress most efficiantly, that I can only guess was posted back when TTK arrived.
Right now I'm planning to do the story missions and then Strikes/dailies until I can join a raiding party (what lvl is suggested?)
Only a couple of questions I have: Does it matter what gear I'm wearing as I progress (read something about the light lvl affecting how much more light one earns)? Are there new armor pieces I need to get in order to max out my light level or do existing pieces level up as I play?
And what light level is recommended for the Nightfall & Raid?
Ok so here's the way it works:

Any Engram you pick up - whether it's blue or Legendary or Exotic - will tend to decrypt at your current Light level or a little higher. So you always wanna have your highest light setup before decrypting. Blues and Legendaries can technically follow this rule up to 320 but in practice they'll stop being a useful source of light after L300.

After hitting 300, you'll need to rely on things other than engrams to move forward. Ranking up Factions will drop an item up to 6 Light higher than you. Meaning if you're 306 and go pick up a Dead Orbit package, the gun or armor piece you get will be somewhere in the 306-312 range. These top out at L330.

Then there's King's Fall. You wanna be 310-315ish to run Hard Mode, where all the drops are up to +6 Light off your currently equipped Light when getting the loot, and they go all the way to 335.

Challenge of Elders is piss easy and also follows the +6 rule all the way to 335. The "challenges" can be done in 2 runs, and they'll guarantee an armor piece + a weapon at +6. If you just keep farming it you have a random chance of getting a +6 (up to 335 as well) Ghost, Class Item or Special Weapon.

So where to begin? Just run TTK quests / they're a source of good gear (1,000 Yard Stare, Conspiracy Theory) and while you do them you'll accumulate blue engrams which will push you towards L300 or that ballpark. Some Heroic Strikes in the mix won't hurt either - there's Strike-specific loot (Flayer Cloak on Dust Palace, Darkblade drops a special helm, Shield Bros have gauntlets, Undying Mind the Imago Loop etc) which can +6 all the way to 335.

We missed you last night old friend. Felt good to help Punkin Bear get his first Warpriest CM and first ever hard mode clear done though. Other than a couple scrubby Golgoroth wipes, and one hilarious scrub move by John @ Daughters, we rolled through it as usual. Looking forward to next Tuesday.

edit: Also Dorssom got this from our first NF run last night. T-44 and I could barely talk to him the rest of the night.

I thought I would hunker down and get ready for the platinum such that we could do VoG flawless on Tuesday so I logged onto destinyghosthunter for the first time...

There's a stupid ghost I need that you can only get in the tower during IB. so I just missed it for the month I guess.

Oh well, I'll think of something else for us to do. :>

Not much point; maybe after ROI there will be. There are some GAF groups on bungie.net that you can see messages from in the Destiny companion app/bungie.net site.

I also need The Mountaintop for triumphs so maybe I can just drag us all into the Crucible.

Work has me pretty busy these days, but I'm sure I could try to put something together most weekends for at least one of the days. I feel like it would be a good opportunity for those of us on Xbone to get to know each other and welcome newbies into the fold.

My only worry right now is that I've been away from Destiny for so long, my ability to teach others is way rusty. But once I'm feeling confident again, I'd be happy to lead the organization on this.

When are you usually on? For me, weeknights are rough, unless it's earlier. I work at 7am each week day, that's why I'm leaning towards the weekend. Hopefully even if it runs late on a weekend night, people are okay with losing a little sleep for some raid-goodness.

I just switched from ps3 to XB1 so I'm starting from scratch - would love to meet new cool dudes and ladies to shoot things with! I play sporadically but often from 4-6pm EST and after 9pm. GT is Holden Cawffle for anyone if they'd like to add: I raided pretty consistently before TTK but still haven't done KF at all.

EDIT: Also, if I have the old style Xbone controller, what's my best option for spending sub-$100 on a decent headset? Is the official old one any good or should I just buy the stereo jack adapter?

Thanks to Flying Toaster/CthulhuSars for helping with the Sleeper Simulant strike. You didn't just help me get it, that 3rd random Japanese guy it match-made us with had been at it for like 3 hours. The way he was jumping around at the end, he was pretty happy.

Only need 1 more fragment from T2 CoO & 2 from T3, but 45 minutes of hive/taken boss fights is enough already.

Defender is probably the most useful class in the game for PVE. Upgrade that first, people will love you for KF.

This. So much this. Play whatever you think is coolest, this game takes a ton of hours so you have to make yourself happy first & foremost to keep going. But there is no PvE mission that is not made so much better with a defender & sunsinger.

There's a stupid ghost I need that you can only get in the tower during IB. so I just missed it for the month I guess.

You're going to kick yourself when you see where it is.

Thank you all! I just took a look at the skill tree for each one and it seems that Defender works better for me, always liked playing "support" classes

Well with the right gear and weapons, defender is the most dangerous one in PVP as well. :D SO if you like it, master it and you'll rule everywhere.

I'm only 25 on my first new character now, so I'm a liiiiiiiiittle short but I'd love to learn the ropes on KF when I get back up to speed.

It's such a bummer losing all of my old gear and having to rebuild every single subclass, but honestly replaying the story is great because the jump from PS3 -> Xbone is like a whole goddamn new game.

I took a long break from Destiny, mostly because the group I used to play with was super toxic. My favorite part was always being the sherpa and teaching raids to people, so I'm happy to help whenever you're ready!

I added you on XBL, send me an invite/message if you need anything!

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Man that Nightfall is gross this week. Friends and I played through it and we barely got past the halfway point.

it's a weird strike. the taken version is much easier because those dozens of VoG minators get replaced with just two Wizards.

the final boss is brutal because of its void damage and splash radius. i was dying from one hit attacks last night. and yet with the weapons of light and shadow shot tether we took him down in 15 seconds on our first try. WoP and Tether increased the specialist damage from 45k to 145k.

I think the best way to farm this strike would be to roll with one hunter for the tether, one titan with Weapons of Light and one with Blessing. Blessing will make sure you dont from 1-2 hits. If you cant beat the boss in the first seconds you might as well wipe and start over because otherwise it lasts like 10-15 more minutes.

I need The Mountaintop too if you want to run through all that...

It's not actually too bad - just long(ish). I had randomly got to the main part of the quest (when it splits into 4 sub-branches) just by leaving it in the background...but decided to do it for MoT.

I was most worried about the 6+ kills per match with a primary for the 4 gun types, but actually it was fine and I got through that in almost the minimum number of matches (16 matches is the minimum). You can do that quest alongside the faction quest and the elimination quest (but you can't do faction and elimination at the same time).

If you want - wait and do the elimination matches as part of Trials. Even if you die every round you can grind out the silver and gold bounties for drops PLUS there are 2 25 legendary mark bounties you can complete and save for ROI.

In the end I completed all 4 branched quests, plus the final 20 points quest, in two nights of PvP, (so around 8-10 hours of play). I got lucky with some iron banner wins though which meant the 20 points was relatively quick.

Summary of the sub-quests here if you need it:-

I got this Turtle Beach XO One; came with an adaptor that works on all of them. Needed a firmware update on the original XBone controller, though.

As an aside: newer controller's RB button broke during a raid when I was trying to kill the vessel with a sword— so paired the old controller, but audio didn't work through headset; tried firmware update and bricked controller. Had to try to finish raid with RB duct taped on. Somehow controller unbricked itself and took the update on the next go-round and I got a new bumper assembly off the internet.

Awesome - found it on sale on Amazon, just purchased. Thanks for the tip - it was genuinely difficult finding a good headset that didn't have "Pro Gamer" orange stripes or chrome scorpions or whatever all over it.

Does anyone here Claw for their controller?

Is there any benefit to Clawing as opposed to switching the config to Jumper?

I dont claw but clawing allows for small benefits such as YY'ing more effeciently, rolling easily when playing nightstalker, etc. It essentially allows for you to press all 4 face buttons without removing the thumb from the analog stick while just moving jump to a bumper only let's you "press one face button"

I'd recommend just getting a controller with paddles tho lol

Is there anyone in DGAF that makes avatars? I want one but I do not have a photo editing software other than paint -_-

On another note, do we have a crucible class? I am so horribly inconsistent in Crucible. I can go from K/D of 2+ to 0.4 and I don't know what I have done wrong other than playing badly :/

Man that's bad for your hands. Just get an Elite.

I only use two paddles - left is X (square) and right is A (cross) so I can reload/revive and jump without taking my thumbs off the sticks.
